Very difficult to tell from their illustrations and comments as the illustrations don't bear out Digitrains' descriptions of the various models.  6000 as preserved is in early crest livery and has a double chimney but the Digitrains illustration shows a single chimney and what appear to be original pattern outside steam pipes.  But then equally the late crest version is also shown with a single chimney so I presume the correct detailed images have not been used to match the descriptions - or at least one of the models  (late crest) won't be accurate for the livery it is carrying.

Probably best to check with Digitrains as they might well have just used stock images and not appropriate ones

Thanks for that, I'll ring them and see if I can get them to clarify the descriptions.

    Cheers Colin

  2. Millions of pounds a year are lost to the rail industry because of ticket avoidance and abuse. Unfortunately to deal with this measures have to be put in place which can penalise people who have made honest mistakes. In most cases, certainly in the case of a forgotten season ticket, the TOCs customer services will rectify any  genuine issues.

This does not remove the requirement to have a valid  ticket for your journey.

Incidentally it is common practice to notify onboard staff of out of course ticket office closures and also inoperative ticket machines.

  3. One possibility, if you are trying to launch a new factory it can be helpful when trying to attract new customers to provide a sample of what you are capable of.

The gent in question used to be a designer for Farish apparently, he wanted to stay in China so he set up his own business. He can make models but probably doesn't have the trade contacts to sell them.

  4. I double head locos and bank trains on my garden railway using DCC. One of the reasons that I went for the ZIMO system is that it's easy to adjust individual loco speeds which means I don't get any 'pushing and shoving' but more importantly I can drop the banking engine off without stopping the train using one handheld controller.

  5. That sounds good Dave. I didn't want to have to mess around too much to get vehicle lighting.

Oh I know full well that it wouldn't need to work when being dragged but the big clue is when I said most of the time and used the word could when referring to it being dragged. Are you available 24/7 to offer pointless advice or do I need to make an appointment?

  6. I would be happy with a seven car set. For me coach lighting and a lifting nose are a must. I'm not talking about a fancy nose mechanism but as long as I could 'drag' my APT I would be happy so maybe a way of having two plug in positions is possible?

Tilt is, for me, an expensive luxury and in fact would hinder my plan to have the set being dragged most of the time.

If a more basic spec'd but well detailed APT was available I would most likely have one with full yellow nose and one with black windows too.

  7. This is much as the status we already had posted here 5 December 2017, it's a local newspaper  tardily catching up in early January with what was already known:

The next real news update will be 'Zimo out of administration', in other words operating as an independent business once more.

That will mean that "The exact insolvency causes would have to be checked in the procedure" has reached a conclusion about what went wrong, and set in place some provision to ensure it cannot happen again.

And look at the detail between these two reports. If we assume both were accurate at time of writing, December, 33 employees, January, 28 employees; that's 5 staff gone which is a significant workforce reduction if both reports have the numbers right. It's a sad fact that these events very often result in such things, even when the business comes out of it still operating successfully.

ZIMO came out of Administration on the 5th of March.
  8. A question regarding Zimo Sound Decoders.

If you update the firmware of a sound decoder containing a sound project, does it destroy the sound project?

No it doesn't, I've got a number locos which have had features added via firmware updates and retain their original sound projects

  9. Hi Alan

It looks like the main addition (but not necessarily the only one) with the new software is to compliment an identification feature in the new MX32 firmware. I'll update my system along with a sample decoder tomorrow and dodgy German translation ( on my part) permitting give it a try!

The MX820/821 firmware looks like V4 which was the launch firmware for the MX821 so won't be any different to what you already have.

    Cheers Colin
