I've had a look and can't find any photos - both Dad and I rarely ventured into the right areas!
Also most of our photography was at weekends except when we weren't working. I've also had a look at my Erewash Valley photos and drew a blank.
Sorry,
David
Thanks for looking David, much obliged anyway

Dave, some great photos on here, I like the ones of the 08 at Shirebrook, great stuff!
I would like to ask if you ever photted the Longport to Worksop Sand trains passing Shirebrook, or indeed anywhere between Longport and Worksop?
I am in the process of collating images for an article and if any get used they would be paid for.
Thanks in anticipation

Each side of the office block entrance doors was an ex Langwith Junction 02 chimney with the number painted on, there in my days up to the very early 70's but I don't know when they disappeared.
Yes I was sad enough to write the numbers down at the time, although all my reference stuff is packed away in the garage awaiting man cave construction, I have a colleague who is somewhat in advance of you all with his P4 version of 41J who I gave the numbers to and may well have them to hand.
Mike.
Did you ever find out those chimney numbers Mike?

Timings for 6M49 were:
Langwith Jn 4/18pm
Clowne South 4/40pm
Spink Hill 4/47pm
Killamarsh Jn 4/59pm
Woodhouse East Jn 5/5pm
Rotherwood (arr) 5.10pm
Brilliant, that much appreciated!

Do you mean Clowne South, Spinkhill, Spinkhill tunnel and Upperthorpe and Killamarsh, then down to Beighton Junction?, the singularly named Killamarsh stations were on the ex MR and GC lines.
Mike.
That's right Mike, the photo I am captioning is of the train passing Langwith Colliery Junction, heading towards Creswell & Welbeck, it will then pass Clowne south and Spinkhill etc before gaining MR metals at Beighton Jn, then turning left towards Woodhouse Junction!

Couldn't find it in the winter 1962/63 Sheffield Area book.
There was the 6M49 1.0pm Whitemoor - Mottram (though this ran via Clowne South and Killamarsh Jn). Also the 8M49 10.35pm SO Tees - Annesley (via Killamarsh Jn and Clowne South)
That will be the one, the photo is a Class 37 with headcode boxes which did run via Clowne South and Killamarsh, the shadows on the photo would indicate an afternoon shot so you may have hit the nail on the head there! Thank you

Can anyone help me with a query about a train headcode from around 1964? I have a photo of a Class 37 hauling 7M49 along the Beighton Branch of the LDECR around 1964. That's all the info I have on it but I would like if possible to know what the train was? I expect it would have originated at either Whitemoor, or Mansfield Concentration Sidings, and would be heading via Langwith Junction and Beighton Junction to Sheffield, and maybe over the Woodhead Route? It is pre Tinsley so I don't think it could have gone there
Anyone have a WTT for the Sheffield area for 1964 ear?
Any help appreciated

I've called them worse names, especially when they've decided they want to stop in the tunnel; I had the same one (92001, I can remember the number 15 years on) stop on three consecutive mornings on the same train. They seem to have had a disproportionate number of problems over the years, possibly being overly-sensitive to fluctuations in line voltage.
will probably be writing an article about them at some point, so all information regarding their performance from a drivers perspective is helpful. I have read about their propensity for sitting down if they don't like the amount of leccy in the lines!

A couple from me. My least favourite class of loco, but worthy of photography nonetheless.
25/7/14 92 016 at Eden Valley loop.
30/06/2006. 92 022 in the Up bay at Warrington Bank Quay.
30/06/2006. 92 022 heading north with log carrying wagons. Don't know the reporting number or destination of this service.
Somewhere near Lichfield Trent Valley ( I forget where exactly), waiting at a red due to a track circuit failure ahead. Although not a complete view, it does give some idea of the cab layout of these god awful things.
Why pray tell do you refer to them as "God awful things"?

It's a new build structure to look like a box. Remember seeing it getting built.
The original box was quite a bit narrower
I thought that would be the case, but you never know it could have been converted from a closed signalbox, which is why I asked. Thanks

Just compiling a feature about the Brighton to Portsmouth West Coastway and am just looking at Southbourne station. Looking on Google earth I see that there is a brick signalbox style building adjacent to the station. This is the premises of Strawberrysoup who claim that their “Chichester studio is in a converted Signal Box on Southbourne Station”. The question is, is this really a converted signalbox, because I have my doubts?
Anyone know?

There are photos of this depot when new in the NRM Liverpool Street photo collection. They are not digitised but you can view them on request, and take photos of the photos for your research, if you want copies they are expensive....trust me I know! You would have to look in the Liverpool Street collection files at the NRM then order the boxes of prints you want to look at, its a long winded process but may come up trumps for you.
I looked at them all a few months back and may be able to give you pointers as to which boxes to order if you are interested in viewing them.

Hi David, some great photos you are sharing on here, the one at Oldcotes (J1608) is of particular interest as it is about a mile from where I live and is part of the route to Firbeck Colliery. I walk my dogs along the site of the colliery sidings at the end of the line each day. This photo is the first I have seen of that section of line and I wondered if I may use it in a book I am planning to do please? Regards Chris
