Hmm, a bit of a blow for heritage railways and preservation stockists, who certainly won't be stocking Scalextric and most likely not a full range of airfix. How many recent models have relied upon measurements from those very heritage facilities....

Very true, but I'll bet Hornby will make exceptions to their tier system if they think it will benefit their bottom line.

  2. Heljans ads can get a bit ahead of themselves. We're still waiting for the OO9 Lynton & Barnstaple Baldwin that their ads claimed was available last autumn. Their website may be more helpful.

Got excited at the mention of new 009 coaches, but looks like they're just the Liliput HOe Austrian coaches with a 'faux British' livery.

Feels very much like a case of "We have to announce something in 009, what can we fudge?"

I thought they looked a bit 'Germanic'.

Would have considered a few, if it were not for the ill fitting windows.

  4. For me, the shadow on the bottom of the handrail in front of the smoke box is way to light for it to be black. It's far lighter than the shadow on the cabside handrails which are undoubtedly black. Also, the sun in the photo is coming from the upper left, yet as the rail goes round to the smoke box door, it gets darker. Black is the darkest colour, so the handrails on the boiler sides must surely be lighter in colour. I know livery regulations state handrails should be black but I think this particular member of the class is a rare exception.

    Just my opinion.

(Never thought I would find myself disagreeing with 'The Muz' on matters Southern :))

  5. Probably been said already, but Dapol have made some excellent selections when choosing their O gauge subjects.

Hattons LNER pacifics look great but how many people have the space for a prototypical rake. One of these, an auto coach and a milk tanker and you've got all you'll need for a typical GWR rural branch line.

Same with their Terrier and forthcomming Stoudley four wheelers.

From their website just the BR in black initially but almost certain the SR one will follow

    7S-018-001                 L & SWR B4 0-4-0T NORMANDY - AS PRESERVED

    7S-018-002                 L & SWR B4 0-4-0T CAEN BROWN  90

    7S-018-003                 B4 0-4-0T SOUTHERN GREEN 88

    7S-018-004                 B4 0-4-0T BR EARLY CREST  30084

    7S-018-005                 B4 0-4-0T BR LATE CREST  30096

    7S-018-006                 L & SWR B4 0-4-0T Lined Green 91

    Thanks for the info.

Just got an email from Hattons, who say 7S-018-003 is SR lined black. Given the duties for a B4, black would make more sense, but just to be on the safe side, I'll wait for livery samples before pre-ordering.

  7. Obviously his choice, but after 4 weeks and 10 pages of posts, I'm surprised Hattons Dave has not responded.

Perhaps the title and placing of the OP in the Hornby section means he is unaware of the thread ?

  8. Good choice for Dapol. And they already know which liveries will sell from their OO gauge version. May get a Southern black one to go with my Terrier if they do that livery.

  9. Not sure Model Rail are doing anymore of these, having moved on to other projects. Perhaps Dibber25 could maybe shed more light ?

Depending on the terms of the contract with Bachmann, they may appear in Bachmanns own range in future as the GN Atlantics and Midland Compound did from the NRM exclusives, and the LMS twins from Rails .

  10. I believe that is how Bachmann branded it. Probably because it is not a true scale replica but a facsimile of Woody Bay (and a few other L&B stations.)

Do you mean the Bachmann NG Station Building ?

  11. Have you tried The Lynton & Barnstaple Shop ? The last time I saw one of their stands at a show (admittedly a year ago now :o) they had them for sale. It would probably be at full RRP (£59.95 ?) but you would be supporting the  L&B in their attempts to extend their line.

  12. I'm guessing Hattons will have lost sales to Hornby for the LB&SCR stock. I wonder if it would be possible / prudent to switch from the painted mahogany livery to the earlier varnished wood livery as in the photo in the first post of this thread. They're already 'teaking' the GNR versions. Could they take the teaked versions and switch them to the LB&SCR production line for logos crests and numbers ? Is this possible ? Or am I being stupid ?
