  1. Excellent information Bruce, thanks for sharing. It's wee titbits like this that get lost in the fog of time! Ian Bell recently introduced us to that same Hawick Train Register: http://projecthawick.forumatic.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2623
  2. Sorry it has been a while, so much to see and catch up with on here!
  3. A little off-topic, but I recently encountered a curious argument over which Scottish town has the largest population, but no railway station within 2 miles. Here were the main contenders: Now am I right in saying the Scottish Borders is the largest region in the U.K. to have no railway stations (yet)? Also, is Hawick the furthest town of over 10,000 people in Scotland from a railway station?

  14. Apologies if this has been covered before, but what purpose did the alcoves in the pillars of the Shankend Viaduct have? http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh595/Hawick_1987/Whitrope%20et%20al%202012/179.jpg http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh595/Hawick_1987/Whitrope%20et%20al%202012/180.jpg http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh595/Hawick_1987/Whitrope%20et%20al%202012/181.jpg

  16. From my introduction thread: Project Hawick has a dedicated Waverley Route sub-forum. It is my fond hope that people from this site can help correct any mistakes we have made and even add their own photos and memories if they so wish! Registration if completely free. We have tried to upload as much original material as possible to preserve it in the future. In recent weeks Project Hawick has appeared in both the Southern Reporter and Hawick News. Project Hawick link: http://projecthawick.forumatic.com You may also find us on Facebook: http://facebook.com/projecthawick Twitter: http://twitter.com/projecthawick YouTube: http://youtube.com/user/projecthawick Finally keep up the good fight regards to the Waverley Route!
  17. Is there any information on the pilot that went ahead of the Lytham St. Anne's on the 5th January? Slightly off-topic too, but does anyone have any further information on the demolition locomotive/convoy that left Hawick in April 1971?
