  1. The Lima car either has a steel weight (most likely and which won,t expand) or Mazak weight (which were notorious for expanding) in the centre of the car where it will not affect the end of the car. Has someone tried to remove the power bogie? That would crack it.

Now come to think of it, it does look like been something has been done to the power bogie, and slightly looks out of the place like it's catching on the main body of the power car.

  2. Not sure if the exact place, but just a quick question.

Recently checked a Lima HST, and looked at the back of the main power car as part of the GWT set, and not sure whether or not that the slight expansion of the plastic is due to the mentioned rot or something else, and if it's possible to keep the MK3's that are used with another HST. Basically at close inspection, it looks like a bit of swelling and a subtle crack on the back of the power car. And whether the new Hornby hst suffers from the same.

    Regards

  3. Thought about bumping this topic. Been thinking about getting a Hornby Class 31 (R3344), and just wondered if it has also been affected by the mazak rot. Not sure especially since until lately been put off by getting one, and just wondered if anyone knows if the later versions are affected like the first batch of 04'/05'.

  4. Just read through some of the posts above, and I completely agree in terms of why replace a electric loco/train with something that would do the exact same, yet seems to be the only solution to the already capable loco+dvt and up to 10 MK4's by starting to put them out of service 4 to 5 years from now, even though they have more life in them for many more years to come. Just seems and sounds illogical to replace them so soon. Heck even the 'Skippers' (I think the right nickname for the 142/143/144 Railbuses) are going to be around some time yet, maybe even a year after the 91's are due to start to be withdrawn.

But anyway, back on topic. Ahem. One thing that determines even the VTEC 91+DVT set, is will it finally include etched parts and Head/Tail lighting to modern standards of now? Maybe not, but surely there is still a market for OHLE loco's etc in both RTR and kit build? Not hating on the current 91, but the price is still quite steep for something that is as old as the real counterpart itself. I do hope that Hornby gives the 91 and 90 something of a tribute of upgrading them before they all disappear off the mainline in about 5 plus years time.

  5. You may have difficulty getting the kits from Charlie (DC Kits) at the present time. He had a major fire a while back which means most of the kit stuff is in storage and inaccessible. I would suggest phoning him before placing any on-line orders.

Thanks SRman and others with the recent replies so far. It seems, of I which I understand the situation, that I might shelf this project for some time after contacting Charlie recently.

  6. I thought I would bump my topic regarding the Class 303 from DC Kits after deciding to restart my interest into getting the kit (If still available that is?) after about 6 months hiatus, and a few more ideas that since then, has popped in my head about what to go for, in terms of the number of a refurbished SPT 303 up to 2002, the type of suitable window/door profile etc, and to see how easy it is to reproduce the 303's in the refurbished variation from the mid to late 80's to late 2002. Especially since researching more on the web for pics regarding the refurbished units.

If anyone on here can assist me of the door's profile etc, I would be much appreciated of any help regarding as above.

  7. I know the old Minitrix Class 27 is a misshapen pup but then someone did this to it:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MINITRIX-N-GAUGE-REPAINTED-CLASS-27-ORANGE-CREAM-MILLENNIUM-FALCON-DIESEL-LOCO-/131600079742?hash=item1ea3f9db7e

There are a couple of others as well...

A decent burial is the best offer I can make on this!

Never knew a class 27, or any loco for that matter could go through that. And whats with the Millennium Falcon inspiration? Possibly would go 12 parsecs on the track if they believed it would after the repaint.

  8. Not sure if in the right place.

Does anyone know if the Class 303 EMU kit as standard come with glazing? If not, what suitable glazing would be suitable to finish off the kit. (whenever I get around to buy one soon that is)

    Thanks in advanced

  9. Just a question about the Class 303 kit from DC Kits. (Well two questions actually) Does the kit require the glue that is listed with the kit, or can you use the revell glue instead. Also, just a thing about the SPUD motor. As I have never powered a kit before, apart from seeing the mass wiring on a RTR loco/Multiple Unit, is the motor without the wiring or with. And is there a slight cheaper way to source some of the parts/paints.

The pics of the link above, is highly appreciated of the decision of the 303's and gives me something to follow with, whenever I do get the kit.

  10. Thanks so far of the replies. Have been thinking about the power source for the 303 (whenever I do purchase one), and been looking at the available power bogies on DC kits, and deciding of which one to go for. As I have never done a kit on this scale before, but have been thinking about it for quite some time in the past, and looking at similar comments and reviews of each one of power bogies etc. And I have concluded on that part of the kit to use the Black Beetle Un/Powered bogies to power the EMU.

Now I also have wondered about what livery/transfers to use for the 303, plus I have wondered about the Cab fronts from DC kits of which are required to the 303, and not sure if they are for the Unrefurbished or Refurbished version, or both.

    Many thanks again

  11. Hi. I've been thinking about buying a DC kits Class 303/AM3 EMU kit to construct. Now as a beginner in the Kit making world of Model Railways, I wondered what best ways to construct the kit for a beginner. I also wondered if anyone who has either built the 303 from DC Kits or anyone that can give advice into building a kit on this scale.

I understand that DC kits do provide a list of required parts and do add up to a quite steep amount, but wondered if the parts listed is enough (especially the wheelsets included).

To add, I have 2 wagon kits, but haven't got around into building them yet, but thought that this might get me back into Kit building, plus to challenge myself as well.

(not sure if this topic is in the right place or not)
