  1. Why do some sellers get away with having a simple train, rolling stock, locomotives, or accessories for unbelivable high prices. Especially for that Class 142 in the Northern livery?

Probably been on there for months (anything with a higher price), or (wouldn't have thought possible) years. Just a endless cycle on the same thing until someone without actually thinking purchases something railway based well above the original retail price when the DMU or similar was released some years ago.

Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

  2. OK. Following on from post 10. Images from August 1987.

The drains are already broken and the track bed is starting to flood after the demolition men have done there duty.

On a later visit (unsure of date) the area flooded and the tunnel mouth was also now fenced off.

After a pause at Dunford Bridge we will move along the line to Penistone...................................

Looking at those pics, even though I wasn't around then. It makes me angry that such thing could happen to once a great route in the Pennines. Connecting key Cities with industries, passengers etc. I would take an old route being rebuilt than a completely new, and I think pointless new route like what is currently proposed at this time. Just wish they left the track, so that they could come back and reinstate it to it's former glory.

  3. It still amazes me of how some things on ebay are set at incredibly high prices, yet no bids. Or with hours left, and the bidding war goes through the roof at incredibly high prices. How do the few people somehow afford these prices, or can't and get an hefty price to pay if they DO win. Rarity or not, still amazes me of how people goes to certain extense just to bid constantly.

  4. The spelling is a bit off as well!

    Chassis Expansion I presume....Mazak pest?

    = Knackered all right!

How can a chassis whether old or new expand?

Wouldn't pay that much for a loco that damaged. At most £20, any more is just ludicrous.

Is it me, or does the damaged end look like it's on hinges? Just where the cab window meets the frame of the window itself. Strange looking I think.

  5. As promised a few shots from Old Dalby when we made the visit to view the two Drewry Cars in 1997.

The unit before conversion/restoration as found at Old Dalby (Appologies not the best image, pre digital age)

The only shot I can find at present of the other unit (The one in Pinzas image above) of the former BR Crest on the side.

today it carries the RTC livery

Now I never knew such thing existed on our railways until now. I find it very interesting and fascinating of how the East Midlands were back in the 70's and 80's, and before and after until now. Just a thing. Was D7076/D7096 rescued at all? A shame if it wasn't.

  6. a 1000?!? :O

I'm sure you could fine one of the exact same ex SR parcel van by Triang for a lot less than that asking price. Seen a few for a lot more reasonable, and logical price to be sold.

But not the most expensive, well I hope not anyway. Ludicrous of how much they go for no matter if mint or not.

  7. Why can't the government fund for our current railways without having this monstrousity which is this HS2 build. There are many disused routes in the UK, like the Monsal Trial in Derbyshire, The Woodhead Route in the Pennines, GCR, etc etc, which is in desperate need of returning to mainline use to free up the roads and the current rail system to extend the freight and passenger usage. Call me old fashioned (not that old by the way) but I rather prefer having these old routes and our current rail services extended upon rather than being neglected in years to come if HS2 does get built, especially if it does, and I mean if it does, what about the communties and houses in the firing line of this purposed route.

And whenever I see pictures or read about locomotives, still operational locos getting scrapped even in preservation, it disguses me that such things still happen.

What has happened to this country's heritage of British built locos, and rolling stock, and buildings etc.

  8. im only aware of 85102 having black window surrounds but this was in the fictitious railfreight livery applied after preservation.

Just found it interesting to see if any of them before withdrawal in the late 80's/early 90's ever received an up to date BR blue livery with the black window surrounds. I know the DMU's have just by looking at pics in model form or the real versions. Might do to a 85 some time just of something unique for a possible era idea of a 'what if'.

  9. Something has occurred to me about the 85's and for some time actually. But did any of the 85's or the other early AC electrics (81's to 85's) ever receive black window surrounds or black head code panels during their work life on the WCML in the later BR era between '84 to '91 (or later) at all. Just something to maybe model about if they did or not.

  10. Same email arrived this week from quite probably that very same well known RTR purveyor as well, my FGW 150/1 will be arriving around Sep/October this year.

I do hope they release those chassis as separate items as well though! Not just to remotor a few of my 150s but the detail underneath them is rather handy for detailing other Sprinters as well.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

  11. Basically supply and demand, or economics according to T P Barnum depending on your viewpoint.

The livery is quite difficult to reproduce en masse and at good quality*   The real livery has been around for some time, so more modellers want to do it.  Hornby made equal numbers of first and standard coaches in the original runs meaning there were too few of some and not enough of others.  I believe the Bachmann 166 wasn't a great seller when it first appeared so numbers of these aren't great either.

*ie you can't easily find someone good at resprays and get them to do it.  BTW as I understand it Bachmann have declared the TPE version of this livery all but impossible as the shading goes from dark at the bottom to light at the top, in addition to all the other complications of the livery.

Just come to think of it. Either last month or earlier this month, I saw a FGW green with gold lettering class 47 832 sold by Rails, and before I knew it, sold. I understand the high demand, but never knew that high. And it was at a reasonable price at that. Well there are railway exhibitions to grab a bargain compared to this very high prices.

  12. Can someone explain to me why anything FGW has very prices nearly all of the time. Just amazes me how high the prices can be. I understand that they are sought after these days, but well out of my league in terms of affordability.
