  10. Another clue - these lines were owned by a Scottish railway, but aren't in Scotland.
  11. Clue - these lines (the west-to-east one especially) were part of an attempted expansion into another railway??™s territory. The attempt failed when that other railway acquired the proposed partner for the expansion and so became even more dominant in its own area.
