  1. Clue - "Fog on the Tyne", "Lady Eleanor", 'Meet me on the corner", "Clear white light" etc.
  2. Weeton, east of Blackpool:
  3. I've already described the method I used to get your last square, either on this thread or in the last version of RMWeb - I have a file of possible squares ready to go, and that was one of them . (It's a pretty distinctive square, and it rang a bell as soon as I saw it.) I add to the file of possibles when I'm trying to get a square set by someone else and see a square that looks good - I capture it and add it to the file. If it's not one of the squares on my list, then there are ways of narrowing things down a bit - but you don't expect me to give them all away, do you? However, some of them would be: who set the square? (some people have preferences); what type of trees are in the square (deciduous trees are more common in the south than the north); which way do watercourses flow and which way do valleys point etc. There are also various map sites available which help, including (but not limited to - I'm keeping some of the good ones to myself ) Draggable full screen map (thanks to Martin Wynne for this one) and Geograph (use the word search feature in the top right to look for any significant features in the square). So now I expect many more squares with really confusing clues in them! And remember - we're still looking for the ultimate square - containing a railway line and absolutely nothing else. We've got close, but ...
  4. Clue - no, you won't see Drogba, Terry and company near here!
  5. A model railroad shop (now closed) in New Westminster near here used to have a squirrel which visited. The staff kept a bowl of peanuts in the shell on the counter. The squirrel would come in through the open door and wait on the floor at the counter until it was noticed - I never saw it climb up. Someone would then throw it a peanut and off it would go. In the fall, when it was stocking up for the winter, it would come in every few minutes.
  6. Clue - sounds like Ind Coope's 1934 merger partner.
  7. True, but he could become a member of the Canadian Parliament .
  8. Well done. You can see the other line in the top left of the map you posted - just below the 'B1040' label. One of my uncles was stationed at RAF Upwood (where they hold the 1940s weekend) in the 1960s and I visited a few times, so I saw the Holme-Ramsey line while it was still in operation, but the Somersham line had closed completely before then. Thay also did some filming around there for 'Battle of Britain'. One evening, I saw 5 Me109s and a Mitchell camera plane in the air over the town.
  9. Another clue - this town holds an annual 1940s weekend at a former RAF station.
  10. OK - the original proposal for a railway to this small town was for a northwest to southeast line through the town. The part from the northwest was built first. The part to the southeast was built 26 years later. The two lines were never joined ??“ the town had two separate railway stations. At the grouping, the northwestern station was owned by one railway company. The southeastern station (which was in this square) was owned by a joint railway, and the company owning the northwestern station was a partner in this joint railway. (And it could be made even more complicated than that !)
  11. Next (dismantled railway in bottom right corner):
  12. Braehead, south of Wigtown:
  13. Another clue - characters from both 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' and 'Kidnapped' walked near here.
  14. Clue - when this line was built, the main freight traffic was slate.
