We’ve had this argument across many exhibition threads .
My thoughts are , that unless we are brave at some point , masks will become normal , forever.
Do we want to live like that ? Live in fear of covid…..forever…..isn’t everyone double jabbed now , so what was the point ? Yes, you can still get it ( my daughter did, 2 people at work did and I was shaking one of their hands just before the positive test )..but isn’t the idea it won’t kill you now ?
Id be very afraid to live in a country where wearing a surgical mask becomes a “ common courtesy “.
Sorry, no fear involved. Mask wearing is common all through SE Asia during the winter flu and cold season. Perhaps they have the advantage of living in a culture that values society as a whole, rather than glorifies the individual and it's so called 'rights'.
And as for 'isn't everyone double jabbed now' - no they're not - look at the figures freely published. And I think there is a little thing called a booster jab coming your way soon.....

That's not a legal requirement , it's up to you to decide now
As I commented for the Uckfield show, I was not impressed by the number of maskless people there when there were polite signs requesting people to wear them. It's not just up to you - it's also up to the venue/organiser. Sure, they can't enforce it, but what's happened to common courtesy? (I think I can answer that myself - no one gives a **** about what others think.)

There's always the original Thomas layout by Rev Awdry? A Maurice Dean style layout with the fiddle yard behind the station.

Visited this afternoon for 45 minutes or so. Enough time to see everything, and chat to a few people that I knew. As always a good show and some excellent layouts. My only criticism was not the show, but the punters. When there are numerous signs politely requesting mask wearing when moving around the hall, why are so many people ignoring it? I'm sure most of them weren't exempt, just rude and bl**dy minded!
Still, it was great to get back to a show after 18 months or so, but I shall be selective which ones I go to this autumn.

Ha ha, yes - I might just set up 'Armchair Models', featuring a full catalogue of every wishlisted item in perfect scale, all at pocket money prices, all due imminently and none of which will ever be delivered.....
Too late - wasn't it done a few years ago by an organisation that shall remain nameless?

The Ventnor West branch on the Isle of Wight was quite picturesque in places, but the final leg from St Lawrence to Ventnor was spectacular.
Why not the entire IOW rail system? Lots of different scenery and places to go.

Lehigh Valley - as in my switching layout (N gauge). Moving from east to west, I also have a soft spot for the Pacific Electric.

Yes, a year ago I had an interesting couple of days, firstly beating Boris and helping move church to online services, then abandoning the N Gauge SouthEast show. Like Ian above, we were fortunate and had very little in the way of losses.
Now, a year later, East Surrey N Gauge also are beginning to think of an autumn Open Day. It probably won't matter if anyone comes - it will be a day for the club to get together and play trains.

The trial periods have been adhered to.
5. Plus the fact that there were thousands of cases to test the vaccines on (or against). For other recent vaccines (perhaps meningitis?) the number of cases per annum is relatively low, and hence it takes a long time to carry out the full clinical trials.

Needless to say the boss of Weatherspoons has now resurfaced and demanded pubs reopen with non essential shops.
Nothing to do with lining his pockets I am sure....
At the risk of being overly political, he's probably sponsoring 63 Tory MP's. Hat, coat, and back to the loft!

For me, the advert appears the first time I enter the forum. If I read an item, it has gone, and if I return to the main forum page it doesn't return. I have logged out and back in and reset the cookies for the page. But if this only happens once on every visit to the site, I can live with that. Things are much better than in the original advert trials.

I think that I am feeling rather bored as I am missing club nights and the chance to meet up with good and long-term friends. I'm afraid this has spilled into my own modelling at home. Much as I enjoy the hobby and making things, the people are also important. Yes, we can phone and meet on Zoom, but it's not the same as being rude to club members face-to-face.....

Hence the desire to find/develop an income source to pay for layouts and stock.
It strikes me that you are fortunate to be able to meet - many, including our club, can't. But I truly don't understand the need for income to pay for more layouts and stock. What a 1st world problem! Many have difficulty keeping a job and making ends meet. If you want to develop a new layout, at this difficult time surely it's up to the club members to delve in their own pockets and contribute the money for any new work?

NHS app has gone live
I installed it this morning. I only hope that there is a good uptake for it. And that I haven't got to go to Salisbury to make it work.....
I'm still waiting for the RMWeb exhibition app that detects BO and rucksacks at long range.....

it is important for all parties to maintain socially distant, 2 metres or 1 metre with actions taken to reduce the risk of transmission
After lockdown, it will be difficult for some of our members to physically get within 1 metre of each other.....

Yes, this looks pretty clear - we'll probably get no better. It will be worth checking again on Monday for the details, but I think it's at least half, if not full steam, ahead.

Exactly. For the many and wonderful people around who follow the guidelines and rules, there will always be a proportion who couldn't care less.

I think we need a careful read of the conditions, fully out on Monday. It may be, according to a friend, that organised covid-safe meetings will be OK. It's casual social get togethers that are the main target. (No MRC raves?)

I may have spoken too soon.
I sympathise! We had just planned our first ESNG meeting later this month in deepest Redhill. Now back to the drawing board - or at least Zoom.
Covid - coming out of Lockdown 3 - no politics, less opinion and more facts and information.

Yes, I agree that statistics are more complicated, but the point made is still good - take a few simple precautions and your risk of catching the virus is significantly reduced - even if it's not as much as the OP suggested. The reduction is enough to justify the actions.....
