  1. Yup. I've used a combination of brute force and ignorance and got the bogie out. It was the grease on the square bearing on the worm drive that had gone hard and seized. I'm taking pictures of the re-assembly so if anyone is interested I'll do a little 'how to' on it once it's all back together. Once you know how to do it it's quite simple.
  2. After many years of being stuck in a boxes I've finally bought a rolling road to at least test my slowly growing collection. Many years ago I bought a Hornby Class 56 (R2645) and went to test it out today. Lights worked but no movement. Loco was drawing 900mA so could see it was trying to do something. I've removed the gimmicky fan drive and I've tried turning the drive shaft by hand. It's very stiff. When I turn the drive shaft the wheels on one bogie are turning but the other end (away from the fan assembly) are not. The flexy joint drive to the worm is turning but no movement on the wheels. I'm assuming something has jammed in the worm/wheel/gears assembly. Anyone got any pointers on how to either :- Remove the keeper plate on the base of the bogie or Remove the bogie. At the moment I can't see how they are held in and I don't want to start forcing things in case I snap something
  3. Well, my rolling road has arrived. Combined with my bench power supply I've been testing some of my locos on DC. I'm impressed by the Bachmann 10000 with DCC & sound. When you power it on DC you get the sound of the engine starting up, it revs and then slowly the speed builds up. I really need to get a proper DCC setup now to get the best out of things. The Heljan 47 doesn't seem to do anything though. Hopefully it's been set to not work on DC. Right, time to give Kestrel, Lion and Falcon a test run :-)
  4. Hi all New to this topic but thought I would add my little bit. I've been buying and selling on ebay for many years, mainly 2nd hand electronic test equipment. When I sell I always use the ebay link to pay for the postage for 2 reasons, 1 - it automatically marks up the item as posted and adds the tracking number. That way if there's a problem with the buyer saying the item hasn't been delivered ebay can also track if needed. 2 - It's slightly cheaper than going to the Post Office. When I sell the money is in my account the following day. Have I had problems? Only a few. One item had a buy it now price or offers. Guy posted an offer, I wasn't online at the time but accepted around 1/2 hour later (think I have 24 hours to accept/refuse). The guy refused to pay saying that I should have accepted straight away. I reminded him about the ebay rules on offers. He still refused so I reported him to ebay. Nothing was done by ebay about it. My wife also sells a lot on ebay. He father croaked a few years ago and left her boxes and boxes of stamp albums. We tried a auction house that specialised in stamps. They said they were worth next to nothing. A couple of years later buy selling individually they are selling well she's now a few thousand quid better off so stamps do still sell.
  5. Does it allow a 4 digit address ? One of the locos I've bought recently has been set to a 4 digit address. On a tangent, if you don't know the address of a loco what do you do? Do you have to run through every number until you find the right one? Is there a simple way to reset it?
  6. Well, I thought I would try out option 1. Unfortunately I failed and and I've just spent the last week at a very basic B&B which is why I haven't been on here. It was a weird place. They insisted I stay, didn't charge any money for me to stay and all the staff wore uniforms and kept asking me questions. I'm back home now though :-) Thanks for all the other advice but I can't seem to get them to go no matter what I do or say. On a slightly more serious note, I've just ordered a rolling road so hoping to be able to try out the locos on DC and see how the DCC ones behave.
  7. Thanks for the info. I'll have to dig out some track and give them a test. I don't suppose you know of a good way to evict kids do you ? 🤣
  8. First off let me apologise for this question. It's probably been asked 10000 times but here goes the 10001 time! I'm just getting back into the hobby after many years. Slowly starting to stock up ready for my retirement and when the kids eventually move out and I get a spare room! I've bought a selection of used DCC models including a couple with sound. Sounds simple so far BUT I don't have a DCC controler. I do have DC. So the obvious question is, will trying a DCC loco on DC work? Will it do any damage? Will sound chips do anything at all? Will I get realistic, but unwanted, smoke coming from the loco!!! I will be looking into a DCC controler (that will be another topic soon) but as everything I've bought so far is off a well known auction site, I just want to make sure what I have bought actually runs.
