Nice collection of traction there, but how did that 58 get to Millburn as a matter of interest ?

Lovely weathering all over but that "Eastfield split" really does look bangin !!!

Thank you for your comments. The 58 has come up overnight with some wagons for repair at the nearby wagon depot….

  2. Really like your wagon shed project and what can be done in a small space.
I have a wagon repair depot at one end of my Millburn layout. The shed was scratch built on an aluminium frame. I have recently installed LED lights in it. Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing this progress.

Does the 8 ohm speaker stop the sound cutting out on startup? Which one did Richard recommend please?

To be honest, I have never had the sound cut out so I fitted these as a precaution. They are ESU 50346. Passive Radiator 8 ohm. A straight swap for the existing speaker. Richard said that most of his last batch had sold out on pre order so there might be a wait to obtain one.

Yes, I use varnish, but acrylic as opposed to enamel. I've had success using the same thinned gloss acrylic that I use to stick Laserglaze in place - this also has a tiny spot of washing up liquid added to the mix to help it flow. It gets applied to the very edge of the plate with a small pointy brush. Remove excess with the dry brush as per the above or a small amount of acrylic thinners if I apply too much and it oozes too far away from the plate.

I've been experimenting with Glue and Glaze for the bufferbeam pipework on my recent Class 20 purchases and it looks to be a good solution that would also work for plates etc.

I guess I am in the minority as a firm believer of fixing nameplates with super glue. I apply masking tape around the area where the plate is going. This is applied very carefully to ensure the plate is going on level. A very small amount of glue is applied to the area on the end of a cocktail stick and the plate fixed in place. Guaranteed not to come off when the loco is handled….

Hy John I bought the ruston face shovel in n gauge it's not bad kit but needs a bit sanding down and filling around the joints.                       Also came with decals ones painted..they definitely do the oo gauge drot so what you order is what you will get.                                 Artitec are doing the closed cab on there k5 hannomag ,                           pre built and weathered it's ho scale but might pass on your lorriet.                                                     Regards John.

    Hi John,

I eventually decided to buy this kit and I’m very happy with it. Currently built and painted all over yellow prior to painting all the non yellow parts and weathering.

    Best wishes

  6. Has anyone bought one of these kits please?

I am looking for a suitable load for my Rapido Loriet Y wagon.
The kit box appears to show the larger O scale model so not sure of the quality of the kit or the dimensions of the finished product.

    Many thanks

Ok, I think it might be time to draw a line under this as I think the same point has now been made in a number of different ways and I think whilst ideally it wouldn't have happened, it has and they aren't realistically about to do a full redesign of the circuit board to change things overnight. I'm very sympathetic to your struggles though and I agree with your logic of putting the core functions on the most readily accessible features. Accurascale have shown time and again that they are willing to learn and listen to feedback and I'm sure this will be taken on board for future releases so lets give them a chance to learn from this.

In the meantime perhaps take your DCC woes to the DCC part of the forum, not least as they may be of use in a much wider context than just this model.

I'll leave this little beauty here for some inspiration for the Accurascale guys to also look into 😜

Yes please to 37262 in Large Logo as seen here. Probably my most wanted 37 in OO. This would compliment my 37027 and 37043 on Millburn.
Was lucky enough to get a cab ride running round the stock at Kyle of Lochalsh in 1987.

  8. Mine’s is staying as 56120 in my favourite large logo. I am, however, wondering how easy it would be to remove the radio telephone aerials from the cab roofs. I always associated the high numbered ones as Gateshead allocated in the mid 1980s.

    Hello folks,

I picked up one of these Loriots a little while ago and was fascinated by the Traxcavators as a possible load, so thought I'd share what I've done with mine:

    Trax6.jpg.846301bde80729d9c20e35d245bbfe62.jpg

This is a Woodland Scenics white metal Traxcavator kit, which is a bit rubbish but the only one that seems to be available. I've never built a white metal kit before so I'm quite pleased with the way it's come out but it was chore to make the parts fit together properly. I've modified it slightly with wire operating levers to replace the clunky ones that came with the kit, plus some wire loops for use in chaining it down.

The wagon has had a large tool box added to one end (plasticard) and timber baulks made to stop the Trax from moving  backwards. The chains are a combination of etched brass hooks and sterling silver chains blackened with Liver of Sulphur. Very fiddly.

The whole lot has been weathered, which again is something that's new to me and slightly nerve-wracking on a brand new wagon! This was inspired by a series of pictures of similar on Paul Barletts site, such as this, despite being the wrong model of Traxcavator and the wrong wagon 🤪

Very nice weathering and bulldozer Darren. I have been struggling to find a OO scale bulldozer with a cab like the one on the Paul Bartlett photograph.

If you get a replacement psu with the wrong plug, chop it off. Cut a length of cable (a few iches) off your defective one, and join it with a choc block. If you want it really fancy, put the chock block in a plastic box.

Just make sure you get the polarities correct!

Managed to find a suitable replacement laptop charger. I haven’t encountered any problems with it so far. Hopefully this will prove to be a reliable solution.

  11. I have an older Bachmann Dynamis DCC controller. The mains plug / transformer / cable has become defective. I have been online and so far unable to source a replacement. The plug has an ESU part number. I contacted them and they gave me details of an expensive universal power supply. No success whatsoever in trying to contact Bachmann. I have heard that a laptop charger could be a cheaper alternative. The existing plug has mains AC input and 16v DC 2.3 Amp output. The DC tip is 5.5/2.5mm. Does anyone know of a suitable plug and cable please?

I have been online and there are a lot to choose from. I would like something reliable.

  12. Has anyone ever seen this one please?

I have a Bachmann Class 45 locomotive, 45048 which was a Modelzone limited edition a few years ago. It runs very smoothly in both directions and at any speed on DC. When running on DCC sound with a Loksound decoder, it runs smoothly in one direction but stutters in the other direction. I can’t see anything obvious which would cause this problem. Having the sound on or off makes no difference. I intend to strip down the bogie gearing this week to clean and lubricate. I will also swap the bogies round to see if that makes any difference. Just keen to ask if anyone else has had this issue and what their solution was. Many thanks.

Never mind the loco, your crane looks rather nice.....

Rebuild of the Hornby steam crane with an extended jib which pivots on forks like the real one. New wheels and lots of weight added. Lots of scratch built parts..

To get the topic back on track, here is ex works Accurascale 37027 on Millburn’s fuelling point. I am sure this loco will become a lot more work stained in due course.

So just got the latest version of the model 32-489SF in Rail Blue, I currently have a split headcode version but was keen for a disc headcode version.  I wasn't keen on the price however but after a lot of searching I managed to get a sound one significantly cheaper than the current street price of the well know suppliers. I take on board about some of the criticism of this model but overall I am happy enough with it, i'm always prepared to forgo a bit of accuracy and detail in favor of praticality and robustness. Obviously the nose seam isn't an issue with a standard rail blue version. The most obvious improvement for me is the ability to individually turn the tail lights off, when I returned to modelling around 18 months ago I was very surprised to find that only some the very latest models had this feature, to me this should be a basic feature. Anyway overall its sounds great and think its a great model.

I too bought 40097 sound fitted as I was very keen on a disc headcode one. I have since upgraded the speakers with a pair of round 27mm dia. Base enhanced speakers from Roads and Rails. This was a very simple upgrade following their guide. The sound is much improved. 40097 is currently in the queue for weathering.

  15. Loving my 37027 and eagerly awaiting 37043 for my Millburn 1980s Scottish layout. I first saw 37027 on Eastfield in the mid 1980s but it had lost the white stripe by then. The stripe will stay as it adds some character to the loco.
plucking up the courage to start the weathering process. It is in the queue behind a Class 26 and a SPT Class 107 DMU.

The large box is very good and I especially like the Driver’s handbook with coffee mug stains on the back. Just noticed the EE advert which shows a Class 40. Is that a subtle hint of what is to come…?
