  1. I’m actually treading a similar route Nick, nothing grand, but kit buildings (mostly card) , some wagons and an 08 (chassis only + rtr body). Getting there slowly. Plumbed for easitrack, but then my sleepers will be visible. I’m intrigued by your subject and look forward to more updates. Cheers John
  2. No Ian, keep them coming, it’s all very encouraging. cheers. John
  3. That little hut fits in there a treat Izzy, nice work. John
  4. I just ordered some from you after reading that you would have some on this thread. Cheers John
  5. Inspired by Nick Mitchell’s “no lathe” portions of the Jubilee build, I have today been making stubbaxles using the Proxon mini drill, this time using the lathe work post holder thingie in the small vice. Works a treat. I have a Taig lathe which is mostly used for 16mm work, it’s mostly too big for 2mm. anyway it might encourage somebody. cheers john
  6. I’m no expert, but it looks fab. john
  7. Top drawer stuff. I stand amazed. John
  8. I already did! Brilliant work on the footbridge, it does rather spur one on to greater things. To keep things on topic, it’s a Scottish fisherman’s kep, and it’s on me on the Wirral Cheshire Lines line near Hadlow Road.
  9. This is a top tip, I tried it and it’s made the brush much easier, and less painful to use. thanks! John
  10. Thanks Chris, it’s the side door handles I need, not the rails. and I think I had misremembered the reference to them being on the etch with spares, but that of course is the end ones. Its just a piece of scrap etch then I guess. I did construct the vehicle the right way up! cheers John
  11. CCT question. This is the etch I received (some time ago) can anybody identify the coach door handles or are these no longer on the etch and in which case any suggestions? many thanks as ever John
  12. Thanks Andy, yes it’s the Association kit, I thought it was about done, but I’m having issues with the wheels not staying in the bearings, there isn’t much axle proud of the wheels. I DO have the correct ones (thanks again) so I may need to get the bearings a little closer together, gently. cheers John
  13. Can anybody decode the part 2-004 (7mm coach wheels for CCT) to the current part please? I’m just checking I have the correct axle length, which could also be an answer too, maybe easier to find? cheers john
  14. That’s a really nice loco. well done. John
  15. So good he said it twice, and I have to agree! John (sorry, couldn’t resist)
  16. A few lengths of cocktail stick and some very hot water later and...... Well it’s better. The sides needed doing again after the ends, but it’s passable now. thanks for all the advice, I’ll get some of that lemon stuff before I do any more. Actually I might get some metals ones next for a change. cheers John
  17. Thanks all. Yes it’s a 2_501a kit which I assembled using Revel Contacta Prof. So the theory probably holds about it being the glue. I may try and get a load in there and glue it square if warm water can soften it a bit? Cheers John
  18. Just noticed this in my stock box, is this normal? I don’t think it’s been exposed to anything nasty or heat, nothing else in the box seems to be affected. TIA John
  19. One “local” source of information about all manner of things in our scale is Nick’s fantastic series of videos covering a chassis build in all its detail. I learnt a vast amount watching these (repeatedly) and Nick offers much advice around soldering, tools and many other common techniques that even apply to GWR. You will find it here Cheers, welcome, and enjoy yourself. John
  20. Thanks for the update and the continuing inspiration Izzy. cheers John
  21. There’s that bar rising again! Very, very impressive. John
  22. Just to go back to the beginning, I wonder whether the base supports have proved to be sufficient for you so far, or whether you might use more or less in future? I’m about to start cutting and thought I’d check. thanks again John
