  Try a semaphore signal kit from MSE. they are cheap and look great when done.

  How about a simple coach kit - a full brake from the likes of Comet (when Geoff is back to health!). Full kits, just consumables to add (paint, solder, etc) and very well designed.

  Cut some of the scrap etch from around the sides of the kit, and practice on that until you feel comfortable with soldering, piece of cake....
