  1. Hope you are well John - I still have the same Alan Gibson coaches awaiting attention along with a Connoisseur Adams O2 kit. I seem to have been sidetracked by the attraction of live steam so am working on several Gauge 1 projects at this time - I still visit this thread from time to time though ... All the best.
  2. Thanks for the heads up John - W9 Fishbourne purchased at a great price. I bought 2644 last year with a view to converting to an Island Loco but never got a round tuit !! Now the dilemma is do I keep it or pass it on? MMmmm Just noticed no buffer beam lamp irons on W9 - Is that correct?
  3. Very interesting topic Randall ... I am a recent convert to O gauge having moved house to an old railway station with lots of room for a garden railway. The recent release of the Dapol Terrier was also a factor. I intend to use radio control with on board battery power and have been thinking about how to incorporate sound. The bluetooth route seems attractive so I bought a small £10 BT speaker from Ebay, placed it behind the Terrier and played the sample link in a previous post from my laptop and YES .. very impressive. The next step is to collect or record sounds and as I am fortunate to live near the Isle of Wight Steam railway at havenstreet, I hope to record sound from Terriers W8 Freshwater and W11 Newport, however, do I record lineside or from different locations on the loco itself? The latter is my preferred option as the sounds originate from the locomotive. It will always be a compromise but I am sure the mind will compensate for any inaccuracies ... ? Andy
  4. Mmmmm - Not impressed with Hattons - Think I will stick to Tower Models ....
  5. Just received this from Hattons ... ! 'Hello This is an email to let you know that the following item has been cancelled from production, and, as you requested an email notification of its arrival, thought you would like to know that it is not now expected to be released. Dapol 7S-010-002, which you can see at http://www.ehattons.com/stockdetail.aspx?SID=58959 We are unsure of the specific reason for the cancellation, and will try to keep its descriptive text updated to provide any information which the manufacturer releases. You will remain signed-up for notification – so if it is reinstated and delivered then you will receive a notification. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused. Regards --------------------------------------------------- Hattons Model Railways http://www.ehattons.com 0151 733 3655 Shop open & phones manned Monday - Saturday 8am - 6pm Sun 10am-4pm' Yet the enclosed link states that the item is 'sold out' ..... Anyone else received similar from Ehattons? ...
  6. Just thought I would share this as I have only just realised it could be the artistic Bricklayers version of a Terrier. This wall is part of an extension added to the Old Ningwood Station in 2008 and shows the opening and closing dates of the Freshwater, Yarmouth and Newport Railway .. A nice touch to our new home
  7. C'mon Jon - With your skills, it would be worth modifying a Southern version - Especially if the price jumps after the first batch ....
  8. Just noticed that the coupling rods are fitted the wrong way round .. Easy fix though
  9. Forgot to mention that my Southern Terrier arrived today and apart from a couple of inward pointing buffers, which were loose and could be straightened, seemed undamaged ... I was a little surprised at how small the locomotive seemed, but having seen W8 'Freshwater' next to the Adams O2 'Calbourne' at Havenstreet, I guess I should not have been ....
  10. There is a downloadable instruction sheet at http://Dapol.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=178_709- Not sure if this is the same as the printed item ..
  11. I, too will be adapting the Terrier to IoW config. and having sold many of my OO gauge stock have purchased 2 Alan Gibson coaches which, with the help of John Fitness' excellent workshop article will be built soon I hope ... Andy
  12. I think there will be many posts regarding mods to the Dapol Terrier and being new to this forum, I am not sure whether they should be in this topic or perhaps a new topic started in another forum group i.e. Southern Railways or Modelling in 7mm+ etc. ... Any thoughts?
  13. Just received an email from Hattons to say my pre-order has been processed and it should be on its way tomorrow ... Has anyone removed the body yet? I will be converting to Radio Control so need to find space for a decent capacity LiPo battery(s). Thanks .. Andy
  14. Probably been done to death but if Dapol can produce the O gauge Terrier for approx. 50% more than their OO diesels, why do the O gauge wagons cost 400% more than the OO equivalent? We are often told that materials make up a small percentage of production costs ! If there is to be fresh interest in O gauge modelling, I think this disparity needs to be addressed ..
  15. I hope you are right John - Glass half full - It will be worth the wait, whenever it arrives ....
  16. Not really as we have had many similar statements regarding delivery in the past, the last stating 2nd week in August (this week!) and "should be here by the end of the month all being well" does not fill me with confidence I am afraid ...
  17. I tend to agree as the helpline assistant was probably reading from a scripted answer sheet concocted by der management ....
  18. Just received this from Hattons in reply to a request for an ETA for the Terrier: "Hello Andy, Thank you very much for getting in touch with us today. I believe the O Gauge Terriers have been delayed due to issues with the packaging causing damage to the models. I am not completely aware on the revised release date but I believe it will be towards the end of the year I'm afraid. I hope this helps and if you have any further questions then please do not hesitate to contact us. Kind regards," MMmmm ...
  19. Jon - It was good to meet you at Havenstreet - Just a quick question regarding your camera/lighting setup as your images, particularly close ups are very crisp and clear ... Ta .. Andy
  20. Yes, I saw that Eric but am going for the Alan Gibson coaches as they seem the most complete and Jon F. has a brilliant workshop thread detailing his build of 4 coaches which will help a great deal seeing as these will be my first attempt at 7mm brass kits ... Thanks .. Andy
  21. Thanks Pete, some good info. there .. I watched a few IOW steam videos on Youtube last night and spotted a 7 cmpt brake, although not on the FYN .. Ta .. Andy
  22. I have contacted Colin at Alan Gibson Workshop re: IOW coaches and he has a 6 and a 7 compartment brake and an all 3rd to go with the Terrier. I think the 3rd will be OK for the IOW but not sure about the brakes as it appears they were modified when brought to the Island? Ta .. Andy
  23. Is that the tunnel from the mainland or the one from Cherbourg which was worked by the Fleche d'Or ..
  24. Oops .. Getting carried away there .. just realised that the FYN closed in Sept 1953 and my first visit was in 1959 - Never mind its my railway and I can apply artistic licence if I want ....
  25. Thanks Pete, some very useful info there .. Ed, I guess a chat with the knowledgable people at Havenstreet will reveal how W8 and W11 differ in their restored state .. My ambitious plan is to build an end to end line along one of the existing platform edges, over the track bed with representations of stations at Freshwater, Ningwood and the bay at Newport Station used by the FYN. My research so far seems to show that most of the Terriers were transported from the Island back to the mainlandby by the late 40's being replaced by the O2's so parhaps I can model 2 eras, i.e. the 20's and the 50's when I first visited. I think the stations stayed more or less the same during that time .... BTW, the locos will be radio controlled and battery powered as I have already built an R/C unrebuilt and a rebuilt Bullied loco in OO .. But thats another story .. Cheers .. Andy
