  1. Folks, surely rather than have oversize holes giving clearance in every direction, a set of etched rods with a sloted hole at one end would allow for good positional tolerance (by the reduced clearance on the hole end) and still allow for the 'lash of the gears at the minutely slotted end. the slot probably wouldn't be visible under the crankpin. Paul.
  2. thanks for that Keith, I was hoping someone would do a face to face comparison of the two, I was almost at the point of buying one soley for that purpose (maybe) Paul.
  3. No bad thing, as you say, the Hornby 14xx bucks like mad when it hits a dead spot, no doubt a stay alive system or a flywheel drive would have alleviated that, but never mind, with any luck the DJM 58/14 could see the Hornby 14 moved into the Railroad range. Paul.
  4. Thanks for the info guys, I run both hm2000 and hm4000 so it sounds like both, despite being fairly recent (last ten-fifteen years) are not suitable for Coreless, Paul
  5. Folks, apologies if I have missed a reference to it, but Coreless Motors, are they okay to run with the Hornby HM2000 and HM4000 controllers? I saw comments on other threads indicating certain older controller types are not suitable for the Coreless motors. Paul.
  6. That is probably why it can sometimes be a benefit for the manufacturers to work with the forums and enthusiasts, simply because of how much it can expand the research net prior to tooling kick-off. P.
  7. indeed. you only need to look at the pictures from the S&D celebrations or Rocket 150 to see that most of the engines (where applicable) were sporting their pre-nationalisation liveries, some (largely the National Collection ones) have retained those liveries since, but others like SNG have moved onto BR liveries, as the original BR era itself has moved further and further into history. Paul.
  8. Thank you Andy, i'll keep an eye out. cheers, Paul.
  9. Pictures look great thus far, has anyone received one yet to give a review of the operational side of things? Just trying to gauge feedback before ordering one. thanks, Paul.
  10. Lol, Bluebell a bit too far of a trek for me Bike2steam, though I have done a fair few miles behind the 825/30841/30830 combo on the NYMR, never noticed much oscillation, but then again the speeds are modest, and the layout does lend itself to a "bit o swing" when underway. Paul.
  11. I took delivery of the Southern S15 from a certain Liverpool based shop, and I must say I was very impressed with it. looked superb out of the box. I've not looked at it closely yet, but it was put straight on the track and ran very smoothly indeed, one of the best Hornby loco's I've bought, and vastly better to the other Hornby engines I have bought this year (42xx and B1, both of which had out of the box running problems). if I have only one comment to make in criticism (and its really not much), is that the tender does rock very easily, reflective of being on a pair of bogies rather than a fixed frame, but it does not look unduly unstable when on the move. so overall, very happy indeed. I'll post some pictures when I get chance to take them. thanks. Paul.
