Hi Will - what size (product number) cast Oleo buffers do you use from the Lanarkshire range? Great modelling. Thanks.
Hi @33063 - the product is LB12 Loco Buffer 4pk - Item No LB12
Hope that helps!

I'll be in the market for a discarded Scottish headlight if you can get it off in one piece! I have plastic high intensity ones from the Swindon people (can't remember their name) if you need any.
Hi David,I’ve got a load off of the 4 split boxes I’ve done - drop me an email if you want a pair and I can post them from Aus back to you.
Kind regards,

A bit of modelling completed down under last 24 hours following the arrival of a load of detailing parts. This was originally a Kernow 37207, which has had the following:
- Cantrail stripe/livery elements removed
- Shawplan’s new LaserGlaze
- Shawplan roof fan grille/western region lamp brackets
- replica high intensity headlight
- Lanarkshire white metal buffers
- Ph Designs lamp brackets
- Bogie swap with a split box model for the fabricated bogies vs the original cast ones the model came with

Will

Great work - windscreens look great. If they fit on the Bachmann model I’d be tempted to do you a swap as I’d like to do ‘419 in EWS!

Not up to @Daddyman standards but here is my latest take on 37801. Already did it RF style, thought an EWS one was required. Full repaint of modifications as per the real thing in and around 1994.
Very nice that Andi! How did you do the headboard clips on the nose?Kind regards,
Will

That is absolutely stunning David - great work! Some LaserGlaze in that machine will finish it off very nicely. I think you’ve also just convinced me I need a Transrail machine

I don't suppose anyone has the new and old versions and have compared the bogies please? At some point in the future mine will be converted to P4. Speaking to Ian from Penbits at Scalefour Crewe while the Penbits conversion kit is listed as 'not compatible' with the latest 37, this is due to not having been assessed/tested/proved rather than that it definitely won't.
The bogie concept looks the same (from photos of the old one), and the way the gear tower locates on top - but with the way the bogie 'sits' better I'm wondering whether the overall height of the tower has changed.
Thanks,
I haven’t tried it if I’m honest Pete, but the chassis is definitely different and the mountings into the block look to be different as well. For me the old model was a great candidate for springing due to the ride height issue being sorted by the Penbits bogies and the conversion not being reliable 100% of the time. The new model sits brilliantly on its bogies and due to the metal gear towers converts really nicely to P4.
I’ve used Ian’s brake gear as it makes getting the rigging round the wider back to backs across the outer faces of the wheels a lot easier than thinning the plastic brake gear.
Hope that helps.
Kind regards,
Will

Interesting . I suppose if you merged the two you'd get the ultimate ..
In terms of the spin ... accurascale are a young savvy company , and realise the influence of things like YT ... Bachmann aren't so much .
The only bit i'm not keen on us the constant FB references to reviews on social media often undertaken by " experts " just looking for likes and subscribes - If you don't have any knowledge of the real thing , how can you judge a model of it i feel .
If you want the ultimate (of which I am hoping to aim for) the Bachmann model is 100% the best starting point. Fill the nose join, replace the steps, glazing and roof fan grille and you’re not far off. The ploughs/sound need sorting too but again not big issues to sort.
As I said many months ago it depends what you’re buying it for though, as if you want the best sound out of the box you’re not buying a Bachmann one, but if you want the best looking model (windows or the ‘face of the loco’ being particularly important to me and others it seems) Bachmann clearly is the way to go.

Yes, I didn’t manage to get the noses off cleanly this time and there is a small gap when they were reattached which again was reduced with thinned BR blue acrylic.
Look forward to seeing them anyroad!
Awful photo from a month ago - thanks to @P.C.M For the airbrush facilities for the afternoon! Will take some better photo tomorrow, the three split boxes without ploughs have had all of the pipes/extra details fitted. 109/114/042/057/425 (left to right) with 308 also joining the list.
Kind regards,

I’ve used thinned acrylic applied with a small brush to tone down the seams. After a few applications, they’re still there, but their impact is much reduced without having to fill and respray.
When they’re going into EWS anyway you may as well completely strip and get the filler out!Kind regards,
Will

Two photos courtesy of Flickr to compare this to the prototype:
The front windows on 37s are pretty sizeable and a very prominent feature of the loco. The Bachmann model once laserglazed is spot on, as shown in your comparison photo and as @Daddyman and @jjnewitt have alluded to. The nose seam does let it down though but much easier to fill that (especially on a respray) than using Shawplan screens.
Kind regards,
Will

Looks excellent that - shows just how good the new Bachmann Tractor is once LaserGlaze is fitted. You need to give the Shawplan roof grilles a go on the next one I reckon!

Any chance of some formations for these wagons, I know they change about and mix with others. Just want to get some formation ideas as I'm struggling to find suitable pictures of full formations from the last few years.
“JYA Yeoman” / “JYA box wagon” / “Yeoman box wagon” / “JYA wagon” on Flickr have some excellent results for modern day workings, a few favourites linked from Flickr below:Class 59:
Class 66:
Class 60:class 90 recently too:
‘Steven Celements’ appears to have photographed a full rake as well with a freightliner 66 on the front:
These albums are very good too:Kind regards,

One of the highlights of relocating to Melbourne was the opportunity to visit a real legend of a layout - Llanbourne. Yesterday afternoon I was fortunate enough to be invited on a trip to see Llanbourne - a big thanks to Pete for hosting and to Jim for taxi services! A highlight of the superb layout/rolling stock being this Lima 31:
I also very much enjoyed this 47:
And a few black and white with a bit more atmosphere:
Tractor ‘427 at Llanbourne yesterday afternoon - very much enjoyed the level of depth Pete has created on his layout, as well as the superbly weathered stock. I don’t think this is far off being confused for a real photo!

I may cop out and choose a different prototype, but will give it some thought first while I finish 678. Note the depot sticker’s location (strokes beard and cogitates…).
Having been messing about with split boxes for the best part of 6 months now I think the ones to model are the ones with the interesting features! Personally I’d fill the front with plasticard then use masking tape or very thin card to get the very thin outline of the door remains - would look good I think!Kind regards,

No, not at all, there was one of my specialty typos where I should have typed 37678 and then failed to notice through several attempts at proofreading. Faily eyebolds, oh folly!
So it should be a fair representation of 37678, not 378. 😂
Well that makes a lot more sense now haha! Are you going to change the second man nose grilles like the prototype?Pic from Flickr above.
Kind regards,
Will

Nice work on the partial repaint. 378 is an interesting choice from 430, are you going to add the western region lamp brackets/headboard clips, bodyside boiler port door and redo the nose grilles? 37/4 back to a 37/0 is quite a bit of work!
You’d probably be better off going for a red strip one in the 6XX series based on that donor then you don’t have to mess about with the nose grilles.
The triple grey tractor looks very nice as well!

Upgrading the new Bachmann 37
in Modifying & Detailing RTR stock
Posted
Great work David - nicely documented on the fuel tanks. Over the last week I have been following your lead and disassembling my locos to sort the fuel tanks out - and have taken the opportunity to start looking at sound upgrades into the tanks - hope you don’t mind the slight hijack below:
Details of the two speakers used from roads and rails are below:
Large tank - 25x25x7mm Megabass
Smaller tank - 20x20x7mm Megabass 'Mini'
Currently having superglue drying to seal the speakers before being sanded back and joined back to the chassis of the locos.
The plan is to pair these both with an EM1 in the body somewhere - that part is yet to be figured out!
Kind regards,
Will
