Having seen these in the flesh , these do look stunning and possibly even better than the small prairie which I didn't think possible
Really nice to have a chat with Richard from Lionheart yesterday at Warley

A wise move . I can see TT becoming a white elephant and at worst will tank or at best will cannibalise from existing OO and N gauge markets . The notion there is somehow a vast untapped market I don't buy .

Hi everyone.
Thanks for the suggestions, It's always good to hear what people have to say. I obviously can't give too much away about what we've got in the pipeline, other than there are several exciting projects underway.
You're all going to have to wait and see...
Thanks Ben . From my perspective I appreciate Dapol's (and Lionheart) continuing offerings in O Gauge and that is where my interest and custom lies .

page 55 of Hugh Ballantyne's western region steam in colour published by Ian Allan has a shot of 5531 with a red backed smokebox number plate and I think red backed cabsides too
appreciating this is the larger tanked variant

My 'Local' model shop is a two hour drive and a cross border trip. :) ...
mines an hours drive and I have to get past Coventry (lovely city really )

I'd prefer to stand by my local (ish) model shop than buy direct from Hornby especially if I have to pay Hornby's full prices . If needs be happy to wait for items to be available second hand

I would say it was a reasonable and logical explanation for what has happened. Why else cut the supply of pre-ordered items now to shops? And by such large amounts? If Hornby knew they had more orders from shops than they could fulfil, why did they not say so back in January when those orders were placed with them?
Or they knew based on preorders with shops the volumes and saw an opportunity to increase their margin by taking the x% retailers get and in effect hoping the majority of pre orders with retailers shift to direct website sales . Now we could of course not move any of those preorders leaving Hornby sat on a mountain of stock they have to fund until such time they release it back to a now totally tiddled off trade or heavily discount on their website

We reap what we sow.
A few years ago, someone started an online business called Amazon. Some said it was a passing fad and high street & retail shops had nothing to fear. Roll on a few years ... I don't know about you, but my high street is beginning to look like a ghost town. About half of the retail shops have gone, replaced with charity shops and coffee shops. The retail shops that have gone could not compete with online and direct sales.
Hornby is one producer in what is (dare I say it) a relatively minor industry that is irrelevant to 95% of the UK population. What's happening to retail model shops is just one instance of a much wider malaise that affects the whole of the UK retail industry.
Personally, I don't plan on buying anything from Hornby anyway. I have enough locos and rolling stock already, a shelf full of kits still to be built, and the Accurascale/Bachmann/Heljan/Rapido models (and ScaleScenes scenery) appeal more to me.
yes and no . I get the argument but what amazon predominantly sold was books and CD/DVD . Niche interests like ours still benefit from access to retail outlets and I buy things from a model shop because seeing something for real is often enough to swing my interest in buying . I also have a good friend who is a model shop owner so in my case I like to support him

interesting one , yes it may cost more to make anew but if the part isn't usable value little more than scrap

How much is Hornby's offering a spoiler to dent Rapido's sales , smarting as they are by not getting the rights to The Titfield Thunderbolt . There is a play that says we won't see the advertised product ....
irrespective of the legal matters , to me this and previous steps are morally wrong . Q6, King, Large Prairie , Hornby have become a company which comes across as bullying

Mine is loosening up with running and makes quite a nice slow speed now . Just DC but the lights on the cab ends that change with direction is a nice touch . It is settling nicely into my GWR Branch line terminus
