Enough of this madness, I'm off to paint the new train room.
What a wonderful space, very jealous!

"after a nasty bobsleigh accident disloated my shoulder & it's never been properly stable again"
Ouch - that sounds painful, although the bobsleighing part sounds exciting - always looks like it would be quite an adrenaline rush!

Hope your knee recovers soon - rugby? I can sympathise as I completely ruptured my ACL in a game against Newbury in 1995. However it was repaired and is pretty good now - doesn't stop me playing some sport or going tramping. ALl the best.

Welcome back - just imagine the boredom if you had no Internet and you also hadn't had the layout to work on! Changes are looking great - looking forward to more updates.

Looks great Allan, the painting of those weather boards is brilliant.
-
Welcome back Jaz, looking forward to seeing all that work.
-
Yes thanks Adrian, that is a really useful demonstration - will be making hedges this weekend.
-
Allan, the mill is brilliant. I particularly like the weeds growing up over the wheel (and the front porch). Have you decided to build Brunel's bridge? (or perhaps the Forth bridge?)
Cheers

that loco drives people crazy......it is not a Castle in the film....it is a Hall......Hornby obviously used a design they had.
Did Halls run that route? sorry my knowledge of steam locos is rudimentary to say the least....though I know a little about A4s
Really been enjoying the photographs Jaz - (remain amazed by the sheer amount of work you and Kal have done over time to build all of that).
I guess I am just a railway nerd but it always amazes me that the TV/film people clearly put a lot of research into many aspects of a production and then do things like using the wrong locomotives and liveries. We were watching Endeavour (young Morse) a few weeks ago (yes televisions have made it to New Zealand) and although set in Oxford it was clearly filmed on the Bluebell Railway with Southern stock..

Hi Allan, that is looking good. I found a few photographs of the broad gauge shed on Flickr to compare against. Also thought your slideshow on YouTube was fantastic.
Cheers

plank on top of kitchen units? lift up and down as required?
roll out from under bed?
I built my youngest son a simple roll out from under the bed shunting layout, about 5'6" by 18" - it provided plenty of action for a time... but you do need to have beds with a few inches of clearance of course.

A really stunning series of photographs, wonderful scenic work! Are those silver ferns on the pathway leading up the hill ?
Cheers John

Those last couple of photographs are brilliant, I really like the way the undergrowth tumbles down to the water. Nice work.

Nice pictures , ad if you have more of Goathland I would be happy to have them too. All reference is good for the modelling.
Hi, here is another detail shot of the southern end of the station and a couple of videos that show some detail. Cheers John
(0:27 Tornado leaving northern end of Goathland on same wet day, shows detail of the semaphore signal north of the bridge near Barnet Cottage and the hillside beyond)

Yes couldn't agree more. Allan I didn't think it was possible but these tudor buildings are getting better and better.
-
That stonework is looking superb! It certainly looks a lot easier than cutting multiple layers of plasticard.
-
Brilliant photo Jaz - really atmospheric! Love the reflections.

Happy Easter! Just back from holiday and catching up on rmweb. Liking those cabinets. I think the mottling effect may be caused by the galvinising process and you have captured it well.
-
I really like those last 3 shots Jaz - they look fantastic.
The previous photographs made me curious - do you see black swans in the UK? (We have lots of them around here)
-
Superb work Allan, I can smell the wood, hear the clock tick and the windvane creak in the breeze (and then the old washer woman who lives on the top floor screeching something about her curlers). Quite brilliant.
-
Those magazines and newspapers look fantastic!

I think your idea of butting the annex up to the main building will be the easiest approach (exactly what I have done with the two parts of my current station building) - you could just fill any gaps where the stone work doesn't join smoothly with model filler or with wall filler (plaster) and paint.

The viaduct is going to be brilliant - looking forward to seeing it completed!
