I'll order a pair of them a streamlined version and the ugly version. But hope Hornby put 5 pole motors in them though.

Not yet. I had the choice between the Bittern with two tenders and Walter K Whigham. Bought Walter in the end and a TTS chip. May get Bittern next year will see. How is it?
I thought about that one might get it later in year.

Yeah that's what I was talking about.

What I have noticed on the double chimney stack is a cluster of perforated holes as you would see when there is a speeker fitted.

Hi Rob,
A glossy version of latest version of Mallard in the BR Ex spress Blue would look really cool

I've just laid my paws on one of these. It doesn't look as though it's ever been run. What I would like to know is, has anyone successfully fitted the smoke deflectors? and if so how?
Pete
I have heard of black tack being used and tacky back it is a clear & sticky .
I nearly got myself , but had the A1 version of 4472 transformed into a War Time Black Flying Scotsman.

The 8-pin versions are usually earlier models which pre-date sound. The 21-pin versions provide the additional functions needed for sound and are therefore likely to be fitted to later models. Almost certainly the Pearl Diver version will have the 21-pin decoder socket in the tender, and 8-pin versions will have the socket in the loco.
Cheers RFS, Yeah I understand what you mean thank you.

I have been looking at some of the A2s some showing 8 pin & some 21 pin. Two that stand out are Pearl Diver showing to have 21 pin then Blue Peter showing having 8 pin. Why have Bachmann done this .

To the best of my knowledge when Bachmann use a 21 pin socket on a steam loco, it will be in the tender. This is convenient as removing the tender top for access is typically much simpler than removing the loco body. Not seen an A2 with the 21 pin decoder socket, must be quite a recent change?
Functionally in a UK steam loco with no lights, smoke or other features to operate, either socket will do equally well. If I prefer the eight pin socket it is because until recently there was a price premium on 21 pin decoders as compared to 8 pin equivalents (so I would by pass the 21 pin socket and hardwire a wired decoder to save a little cash!).
Thank you for your reply.

21 pin decoders may offer more Functions. For sound-equipped locos that can really matter.
Thank you for the information.

Some Bachmann locomotiveDCC Ready have the 8 pin and some 21 pin.
Apart from the extra 13 pins what the difference between the two items.
-
Some of the Bachmann A2s are showing DCC Ready 21 pin some 8 pin.
Other than 13 extra pins what is the actual difference.

just to add to my admiration of the Peppercorn Pacifics and the Bachmann models, here are a few pics of them, edited of course.
A2 60532 'Blue Peter'.
A2 60533 'Happy Knight'
A2 60533 'Happy Knight' weathered.
A1 60157 at speed,
A1 60114 'W P Allen' frosty morning.
A1 60147 'North Eastern' weathered. Gateshead engine! <g>
60157 again, who said the ER had dirty express engines?
and too finish, the real McCoy! LNER A2 526 'Sugar Palm' these engines should all have had double chimneys and blastpipes from the word go, shame on the BTC.
cheers
Great photos once again Rob

I did the motor swop to an X9108 on my matt, fully lined example yesterday, and to confirm what many have said the running is a great deal better. I also added all the little bits, and set the tender/ loco coupling at its closest setting. Perhaps surprisingly the loco still goes round my tightest curves quite happily, minimum radius 27'', with just a tiny bit of slowing on one curve that I think I can cure by slightly rounding off the cab footplate at the edges, or indeed a couple of passes with the file on the tender/ loco coupling hole. Can't say I'm that impressed with the metal but printed nameplates supplied by Hornby, and I'll try to find some proper etched ones with raised lettering.
Time to move onto my Railroad version, which is scheduled for a proper upgrade with all-separate handrails as well as an X9108, and then a respray to BR Brunswick green.
John.
Will have a play around with the close draw-bar. Looking forward to seeing your Brunswick Green P2.
