  1. Hi Chris.

Im glad to see progress on the 22xx chassis. These engines were very common on the DNSR and so I am planning on building a few of them for Highclere. How does the motor fit into the body? I know there is room for a motor around the firebox area but the motor you have there is quite a large one so I was wondering if any bits of it show at all?

Please keep the pictures of the progress comming though, this is VERY interesting to me.

  2. Hello Ian.

There are quite a few 'beginners packs' available ranging from small packs of track to more substantial selections of books and wagon kits but as far as I am aware (and I could be wrong) these are only available at shows where the 2mm 'roadshow' is attending and not through the 2mm shop but non-members (and lapsed ones!) can purchase them.

There is of course the 'Beginners Guide' which is a very useful and comprehensive guide to modelling in 2mm finescale and obviously covers trackwork to some detail and if you wait a little longer there is also a booklet being produced purely about 2mm finescale trackwork. Booklets like these are usually available at the roadshows as well as the 2mm shops.

Of course in reality nothing beats actually getting on an having a go! Are you planning on rejoining the 2mm Association?

  4. Hi Jerry.

Im looking forward to seeing some updates on this blog. The layout is amazing and I am already looking forward to seeing more engines that have appeared on it.

Kimberly is a fantastic little engine and its great to see it finally painted as Mark said. If I could I would build engines like that all day long, as I matter of interest (I am sure I have asked this before?) what wheels did you use for it?

  5. Hello.

I forgot about this thread and seeing it again reminded me about something....

I am on the look out for a small boring bar for my lathe. Something that can bore out holes sub-4mm ish so it has to be small. The ones I have seen so far are either tipped tools for CNC machines or for larger holes.

    Has anyone come across anything?

    Thanks

  6. Hi Pix.

That last post certianly starts the imagination going! Thats very impressive indeed!

I took a look at those little gearboxes when I was getting bits for the narrow gauge shunter that has popped up in my recent postings but decided to just use the gears. I have a kit for on of those little shunters you mentioned somewhere and it might finally be worth giving it a go!

Keep the posts comming though, they are very insperational.

  7. Hi Steve.

I didnt realise my engine and sideframes were being reviewed to that degree so publically!!

What you have done is very thorough for sure! As its a first chassis I guess it can be justified.

    Hi :)

This is a fantastic photo! I dont know how you have done this gonzo but its very impressive. Is it done with an old camera or photoshop?

Anyway it inspired me to try and reproduce it in photoshop..

To me its nowhere near as good as what you have achieved but its as close as I can get!

(BTW the subject is my pannier tank on Highclere and hasnt been touched)

  9. Chaps,

The Backscene of Oxfordshire/ Cotswold Countrside was from an Ebay trader who persoanlly produced them in N & OO. They have not been listed for over 12 months, Sorry I never kept their details.

    Carl

    Hi Carl.

I thought I reconised that backscene as I have the same one here (just in case!) If you look closely at one of the sheets you can see the old Blewbury Station building on the Didcot Newbury & Southampton Railway! It was taken just down the road from where I live.

  10. Merry Christmas to you too Steve :)

This thread and your presence at the club has been a refreshing change. Take a short break this Christmas and I am sure that after the new year you will return with new ideas and enthusiasm.

  11. Hi David :)

Thats looking really good. I honestly think that aser cutting is the right way to go about making model builldings if its in N, OO, or O scales, it is fantastic at reproducing brickwork, tiles, and window frames. Your work so far along with others is a classic example. I got a glimpse of your windows at the Warley show and they really did look the part.

FYI I have been looking at personal use laser cutters and there are some out there that are falling well below the £1000 mark so it makes it VERY tempting!

    Great modelling.

  12. Hi Mark :)

This stuff is fantastic! I am seriously impressed with your work, that building is superb and a great bit of modelling with all the odd angles. The painting on it really brings it alive, you come across very creative / artistic, is this connected with your work at all?

    Missy :)
