Khris no at the there is no alternative method other than a complete rebuild with a different chassis design/maker. Maybe a commercial opportunity as it has been posted elsewhere on here people needing a few sets for rebuilt m/n's

As some one who has used the replacement kit it fixed 2 of my locos, a jubilee with a broken gear axle and j72. the j72 was more of a challenge but luckly the axles had not gone out of quarter when i replaced them. I kept each set together and replaced first the drive axle middle as then once the others will be locked to a degree from going out of quarter.

Yes they did the modified halls from 6959 (the first) were all turned out in black unlined. this covers the first 12 no names just numbered as I am aware of. the other triang type halls the first hall class like albert hall

With hatttons and some similar watch out some engines. A bad one is the ex airfix 2-6-2 if it says damage to valve gear/ cylinder block leave well alone, as those parts are difficult unless you have another to cobble a runner from. Airfix/Dapol & Hornby non can motored county/castle class steer clear if they have damage to the motion cylinder block. They are impossible to find as a part. Also avoid any southern Bob/west country or merchant navy as these the valve gear is rare and if damaged really has a knock on its value and being able to make any use of them. Aim for a non runner or poor runner with none of the above issues and really look at the price too as some are not 'bargains'

Kind of goes with it being a western region class of loco

Come across this post looked on page 22 here and wonder if anyone noticed a production change on the nose in the side by side livery comparison 370007 and 370003. The vents on the front below the window on 370003 are different, on 370007 they are plated over and you can see rivets around it Were any others like that?

Nigel Lawton models does many motors of different sizes
-
It is adapted from the chassis that airfix, which passed through Dapol to Hornby in a deal over toolings. Hornby modified the design and put in the newer type motor similar to the type on a4 etc super detail loco drive model. Repair would be good route to go as they do require work like many older design models do. The gear is worth checking which is located into the frame. Examine it to make there is cracks in the gear which is usually a fault. check also the set on the wheel for condition. If you can hold the wheel still and the gear moves it will need a new wheelset or sets. If you can repair them pickups that should also sort the running

Mtrains have different size traction tyres
-
2002 almost certainly 3 pole, 5 pole did not come in till about 2006, Both will fit and can work with the pickup system which they feature
-
2009 as some Thomas were still ringfields. I bought the solo railroad 'northern belle loco class 47' it still had a 5 pole ringfield. Around 2012 they stopped new spares i.e motors though stocks were good at that time for spares

I thought I would mention a great guy who had a real passion in the hobby. A font of knowledge of Graham Farish and other makes from that time. Very well travelled going up and down the country nearly every week when he could. I think he will be missed as trader & collector

Garry the duchesses like great though I think they miss having a line of straw/yellow to match the footplate line on the loco

Any thoughts on old lima style track in steel and nickel silver?
-
The E2 has a gloss style southern dark color variant with green lining probably the last release of the model. Many halls were gloss aswell never seen a gloss ivatt class 2
-
Another place you could try is mtrains he has traction tyres of various sizes and has put up recommendations from customers. not related in anyway just really useful webpage
-
Like your Em1 looks great also liked your silver a4, Have you done the dublo lms style coaches in silver similar to the older Hornby versions from the tender drive era?
-
Worst for me was the playcraft class 22, I had one with brass gears and a huge black incased motor. it ran well but it used to free wheel long after power to the track was cut!

This project is a tour de force, it looks like you have captured both the spirit of the Scotsman and the engineering involved even to build the real train. I hope it can go somewhere where it will be looked at and admired.

Triang spares in that way over the counter are a thing of the past but if you know where to look and ask most spares are around to fix them and often not too much to buy a spare loco for bits etc
