  1. Hi, I have created a revised track plan it have ditched the idea of a halt unfortunately because of the flexibility with two mainlines but i may change one to a goods release/loop line but not sure about that idea if it would work or not i have added in two catch points and changed from a single to a double to add extra flexibility the signals can be introduced later. It hasn't changed much but i'm just considering what track to go for now because i was originally going for smp but i have never built track in my life and i think a double slip will be to advanced could i just reposition the sleeper on the peco track or completely replace them with smp plastic type or copper clad any advice would be greatly appreciated Tom.
  2. I really like the plan and the design of the buildings the second siding nearest the line is where the loco would pull in to and then the shunter would pull it out and then into the wharf and that would release the loco and then back on to the main line i wont add a station because I think it would overcrowd the layout but that is a good suggestion they will either run on to cassette, traverser or a sector plate.
  3. Yeah it narrows down to one on a single slip
  4. so pondering some more over the track plan I thought it was ok not great but i have created one that gives me the space to run longer trains but also allow for shunting as well its more of a main line approach and has no station but will have passenger small passenger movement up and down I would like to know what people think to this track plan. Thanks Tom.
  5. Nice to see them in different colours especially the 42's.
  6. Hi Paul, Thanks for the link to the photos its nice to see a 42 not in blue but in maroon I like all those 52 as well Thanks Tom.
  7. Hi stoker, That is very interesting having a wharf next the the sidings that is something i may adapt my layout round that is also something that dose not just limit me to china clay much appreciated Tom
  8. Forgot to mention this the plan that i have chosen the only change that i have made is that the line will be curved and banked because I have always wanted to do this but never had the chance to do it on a previous layout because they have all been straight end to end layout with only one senic brake a layout plan will be uploaded tomorrow. Thanks Tom.
  9. Hi, Thanks for the link its very indepth and i could find anything i want literally anything its so detailed thank you for sharing this link with me. Thanks Tom.
  10. The plan i've gone for is the first one out of the second lot i created but any ideas on scenery or common feature in a cornish layout. Thanks Tom
  11. I might go for a 47 then and a 45 over a 46 but im not a huge fan of the 45,46 the numbers of the shunters at St Blazey should come in nicely for when im renumbering some of my locos. Thanks tom
  12. Thanks most people have said to remove the 14 and add either an 03 or 08 and I will keep the 33 for personal running the 22 i might have two of and drop the 37 and add another 42 or 52 but i might keep the two 25's but thank you for your information once again just to ask were there any private owner shunters for the china clay yards.
  13. Hi Jack, Thanks for the advice I will remove the 37 and 14 the only reason I included a 33 was because of the variety and it is one of my favorite locos along side the 26 and 73 but they don't fit in that well here but I will take into consideration what you have said thank you very much. Thanks Tom
  14. Good afternoon, So after some careful thinking I have put together a short list of loco's 03,14,22,25,25,33,37,42,42,52. could you tell me if that sounds any good and would you add or remove any loco Thanks Tom.
  15. Thanks for the info it helps me decide on the motive power when i get around to buying the loco's. Thanks Tom. Hi thanks for the info about the 33 so it seems that they were introduced in the 1980's which is a bit out of my time scale but there as you said there was some times foreign motive power and a bit of modelers licence so i might try one on the layout when I build it. Thanks Tom.
  16. The first plan is a single line through a disused station closed during the beeching cuts but the line is still operational with the sidings acting as a yard for empty and full china clay trains and any other mixed goods that are terminating at the yard awaiting pick up or on a occasion loco's stabling there with the china clay shunter being a regular in the area with the line through sees the odd passenger train through. The second plan is a terminating station on a branch line with a multi purpose yard with a resident shunter in the yard its main goods are mixed vans and china clay but sometimes the odd ore train can be found in the yard, whilst the station is a single platform with a shelter usually 22 and 42 bring passenger trains up to the station and are taken back down usually by double heading 25's or a 52 but DMUs are becoming more of a common occurrence. as you can tell im better at describing the layout than designing them.
  17. Thats something I want to avoid not having enough space i'm going to keep it simple and have a 1 platform station with a single y point and 2 roads about 32 inches each so i would think that would be long enough and the platform road is about 41 inches long and this layout will be uploaded later.
  18. I think im going to narrow the time scale down to about 1969 to 1971 because i can use the diesel Hydraulics and some of the small motive power as well as a bit of more newer motive power in the form of 47's and 37's but only occasional and i would probably renumber some of the tops in to the old system to give it that bit of authenticity. The only hitch i have at the moment is getting a good track plan because the ones that i have posted before are ok but I would like to involve a yard in the layout but I may have found some more space so it may enable me to expand the size of the layout.
  19. they were scrapped because of reliability, the 50's were transferred down to cornwall and the south west because there were surplus to requirements so I would imagine they were on express and mail. The rats and less powerful engine were overkill to replace the steam and with the scrapping of the 52 and 42 they were less motive power for the long passenger trains and eventually they were all replaced by 37, 47, 50 and HST's and the blue hoods were carried by 52 and 42 towards the end of there life. Thanks for the info again it just means that i don't get the wrong locos but just a quick questions i have seen 33 in dawlish but did they ever venture over the border or not.
  20. Thats really helpful on what can pull what and knowing that there was a lot of foreign motive power so that helps a lot knowing that and that with the passenger trains motive power can be a different from the 52's 42's and some on the 22's because passenger is completely new to me.
  21. that interesting so electrification caused the D6300s to be scrapped.
  22. so the 25 were just sent as a short term replacement for the 22 and the 42 while the 50 was in planning and it is very interesting knowing that they doubled headed from newquay.
  23. thank you were they used for mixed or freight operations
  24. Thanks for that so it does allow me to play a bit with the locos and looking at some pictures some of the 42 and 52 are on freight so that doesn't restrict me that much which is good, were the many rats down in cornwall or were they brought in later in the mid to late 70s. Thanks Tom.
  25. Hi, Thanks for the link to the photos this helps me choose my stock more carefully now and has also helped me think what and how i'm going to weather the new stock it was nice to see what was pulling what on the pics as I now think and realize the versatility of the br cornish network this will be good for now and future reference sorry about the delay in getting back to you.
