  1. Thanks Craig,

Don't suppose you have any pictures of your old one?? Would love to see it if you do.

    Gary

    Hi Gary,,

I'll have a look through my old rubbish and see if there are any pix of the L. Got a feeling a lot of stuff went awol when we moved up here from Cornwall a few years ago. Incidentally new baseboard is knocked together along with track plan...once the electrics are sorted[not my strong point!!!] and the track is laid and ballasted I'll send you some pix and start a thread . The layout will be named Itcham [itchenor and Bosham...coo,that's some clever].

    Cheers,

    Craig.

  2. I'm not sure I would want to steal a title idea from our esteemed solicitor friend. :jester:

We could always collectivity pray for him to be in a position to be able to get CA running and restart his thread.

    Afternoon Gary,

Like the plan for the L Tank, used to have one in Photo Grey but couldn't justify running it on the grounds of it's relatively modern age and the fact that it dwarved everything else around it! Just saw your post regarding the SECR H and have to say I remember being on Brighton Station at a very young age and seeing the Brighton Works Terrier in Stroudley IEG which has stayed with me for ever and prompted my interest in LBSCR circa 1905.

All the best from a very cold and wet West Wales.

    Craig.

  3. Thanks Craig,

The conifers were exactly what I thought was wrong some elm trees sound good however. I will have to have a look on eBay.

I hope you are going to start a thread when you start on the new layout, it sounds good. I would love to see what you are doing to the Bachmann coaches as well

    Gary

    Evening again Gary,

When the track is down and ballasted and the Bachmann coaches have dried off! I'll either send you some pics or start a thread. This will be a very small LBSCR terminus to fiddle yard set up a bit like a stretched  version of Julian Andrews Portwey May 2016  Railway Modeller. Being as blind as a very short sighted bat I hope the Great British Public will bear with and accept all the glaring boo boos as they unfold.

    Cheers,

    Craig.

  4. Well it has been a varied week for modelling which has involved a few different jobs, most of which I'm happy with but 1 I'm unsure about.

First I have finally fitted the trap point to the layout. It it makes a huge improvement. Not least because it actually works:

    trapPoint1.jpg

    trapPoint2.jpg

Although when I say it works the derailed stock does still foul the mainline but that was as far back as I could fit it. Also I wouldn't fancy the chances of the signal box if it derailed at speed.

I have also finally got round to building my 5&9 models Stroudley Loco Lamps. I have had these longer than I have had Oak Hill. I also made some head code disks by taking a hole punch to the free postcode lottery cards then painting them white. The use of these cards is credited to Ian Simpson of this parish as I stole it from his 1840's in HO blog:

    lamps.jpg

I will be putting head codes on my Brighton Locos for the cuckoo line so that they are correct for my exhibition layout when it finally starts moving again.

I have also started work on converting a Tri-ang covered goods van into an LBSC 1866 goods van that will sit unused at the end of the goods siding, representing and old wagon used as extra stores as all of this prototype had been withdrawn by 1889. Work so far has been to remove 2mm from the middle and removing all the underframe detail. The W irons will be wrong but I intend for these to be mostly covered:

    1866van.jpg

This should make a nice cameo scene and I have a story for why it is there but that can wait until it is finished.

And finally the job I am unsure of. Whilst clearing out bits following the sale of my old roundy-roundy layout, which had been on the market since I got Oak Hill, I found some more trees and have put these in place down the entrance to the station:

    trees1.jpg

    trees2.jpg

The reason I want trees here is to break up the back scene and add some interest to the hillside. I still like the idea of trees here however I don't feel like these are the right ones. Opinions please.

Thanks for looking, hope you enjoyed,

    Gary

    Hi Gary,

    Love the Stroudley lamps....the trees....ummmmmmm!

On the dreaded Ebay there are usually some pretty good "elm trees" which don't cost an arm and a leg and would still have been standing and disease free at the time we model.

Plastic conifers do my head in ...especially at Christmas time!

Work starting on my new layout in about two weeks time...no it's not Midhurst but a could have been set on the coast around Bosham/Itchenor. Been busily hacking up American Bachmann six wheel coaches and adding oil lamps the last few days. Hours of fun.

    Keep up the good work,

    Craig.

  5. You're right Jim,

It was a terrible gale and caused mass devastation, leaving rubbish everywhere. Thankfully as can be seen in the second image the residents pulled together and repaired most of the damage. However the station lost it's entire roof and that hasn't been replaced yet.

    Gary

    Hi Gary,

In that case nobody can slate your efforts!

    Sorry about that,

    Craig.

  6. Thanks Jim.

The one I have modelled is preserved on the Bluebell and currently undergoing a "quick overhaul" at least that's what they called it when they started in 1978, SOme pictures of it in SECR livery can be seen on the Bluebell's page about it here: http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/pics/27.html

    Gary

    Hi Gary,

    The "P" looks great....well done.

Our house move is now off......don't even go there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have taken the opportunity to scrap the last layout completely but plans are afoot for a new condensed version a la Julian Andrews.

LBSCR branch terminus West Sussex/Hampshire border circa 1907 is looking favourite at the moment.

    Keep up the good work,

    Craig.

  7. HI Gary,

Don't worry...your mojo will reappear. Same stuff happens to all of us .

In the middle of a house move at the moment...layout dismantled...everything packed away into boxes...yuck!  Hopefully in four weeks time the new house will materialise and all my LBSCR toys can rematerialise and the mojo will get into overdrive.

The moral is don't give up..fresh inspiration is round the corner...just  look at Plumpton....if that doesn't make you drool nothing will.

  8. Evening All,

Bearing in mind their longevity of service the LBSCR D1 and E1 tanks particularly in respective Stroudley liveries would certainly prise my wallet open. Agreeing with a previous post a baloon trailer would be an added bonus for those of us too ham fisted to kit build.

    Craig.

  9. May as well file my slow progress report on Sunday, because I'm too whacked to get anything done for the rest of this evening, having spent the day keeping small daughter and her small cousin entertained, while SWMBO and son went to the Science Museum.

Small "widening strips" glued along the front of each baseboard; material to make FY baseboard bought together; NOS plain track arrived - a very good purchase, but I will need to add more sleepers, because those fitted are at 1930s. Hornby spacing, whereas I prefer closer spacing, based on 1930s Maerklin.

If you follow other threads on here, you will know that some people manage to build entire layouts in the time it takes me to drill a hole and fit a screw - my guess is that either they actually stay awake 24/7/365, or have slightly fewer work and family commitments.

    Kevin

PS: I did manage to pick up a suitable bus for £2 in a charity shop. A Corgi model of a LGOC J Type, dating from 1911, which claims to be 1:43 scale, although I have my doubts. Perfect to stand on the bridge over the line.

    Dear Kevin,

Very pleased to see that you are a devotee of Imperial Flea Circuses and not those dreadful foreign Metric Flea Circuses.

Just off for a glass of wine and half an hour with the track plan books.

  10. Dear Edwardian,

As a fellow admirer of Mr Stroudley's fine machines a D1/E1 in the relevant Stroudley liveries would tickle my wallet. ANY LBSCR coach would also be luvverly as would PO 1907 wagons from any area as previous posts have suggested these roamed far and wide.
