  1. The only reason I was tempted to go for one of these was the very low price, but I now predict a re-issue with a better chassis, which will of course cost more.  The Hattons/DJM is 3x the price because it's 3x as good, but I can't justify spending that for a loco I don't really need when a 94xx and 8750 are still outstanding.  And I could justify a 45xx at a small push as well (Tondu had one, though I can't for the life of me work out what for!).

I think that’s why most people were tempted by the Hornby 14xx .

If they do another new chassis and it puts the price up I think most people would go for the DJM model instead

I wonder if the original Hornby chassis tooling was damaged that’s why they have made this poor quality new one. Can’t see any other reason for them making a new chassis for the 14xx . It certainly hasn’t improved the model

  2. Well at the risk of many howls of shock -horror,you could opt for a Hattons DJM job.Yes I know it's almost three times the cost but I do like mine.....despite the criticisms that forum members ....with a degree of justification... :O .....have made.I'm now off to dig a hole..... :jester:

I have been looking at the DJM 14xx . The Hornby warley limited edition is £49 posted from rails so the DJM is an extra £50 but as you say is a better model . I would not pay any more for the Hornby one

  3. For some reason Hornby has made a new chassis and keeper plate for this model to a much lower quality than when it was non railroad. The axle slots are now square and the rear  non driven axle is rigidly mounted with no play. Mine could only just pull itself along. The old keeper plate had its pickups pointing upwards, but this one they point downwards and the rear ones foul the track. Snipping the ends off, slotting out the rear wheel slots and fitting a gentle rear spring transforms the model. Mine will now pull 10 coaches on the flat with ease. However I really don't like the square axle slots as these will soon wear and get sloppy, a problem I've had with an early produced 72xx. I suspect somebody said to Hornby you cant put a round pin in a square slot....

Thanks for the really useful information peteskitchen

I think I might cancel my order for the warley 50th year edition and see if I can find a good second hand 14xx

  4. Sorry, where does withdrawn from sale appear ? Please explain this.

Most of the 14xx don’t sit on the track properly and have no traction

Hornby have withdrawn them from sale as there’s a manufacturing defect they have asked for dealers to return them and people who have already received one have been told to return them if they are having problems with them

Maybe they will go back to China for rework it doesn’t sound like it’s a fix they can do in the uk

  5. From the release sent to us by Hornby:

All open orders you have placed with us will be honoured at the current pricing. You do not need to take any further action as they will be despatched when the stock becomes available.

It would seem reasonable that your pre-order will have the price ring-fenced. Ask your local model shop to confirm this.

The change in terms and conditions seems to relate to warranty repairs, and how we retailers now need to handle them. Unless I have missed something.

Can you tell us more about the warranty repairs conditions?

  6. On a wander round the trade at Wigan Exhibition on a Sunday, I felt that Blue boxes were thin on the ground and Reds predominated.  That's all small traders.

yes theres not many blue boxes about .but Hornby need to support the trade and the customer .

what 87029 says that what is proposed makes very uncomfortable reading doesn't sound good.

  7. Is there a way to get the horn sounding like the clip from e for experiment where it goes high low high low

I was hoping that this horn sound  from e for experimental would have been on the sound chip maybe to do with copyright ? . I don't know if legomanbiffo could do it

Edit was it e for experimental or rail 150 ? . is e for experimental on youtube ?

  8. Took mine down to our club for a work out today. We have a large test track so I was able to run it at full speed. First runs without sound showed how smooth the unit is but it is when you fire up the engines this model really comes to life, and with the multi start firing up 10 gas turbines is a real pleasure. When fired up the engines settle down into a pleasing hum, open the throttle and the high pitched whistle of the engines comes to life. At speed it looks superb and the tilt is perceptible on the bends, but it does not lean too far over.

The HK braking effect is excellent. I reported a couple of hotspots on TC 1/2 earlier in the thread, I am glad to report there is no sign of them today. I cannot give this model high enough praise it really is a remarkable piece of engineering.

the roofs on my TC 1/2 get warm too .maybe Rapido could comment on this ? it could just be the resistors getting hot ?

its a superb model well done to Sandra and all at locomotion models and Rapido

  9. Dapol certainly seem to be listening to comments made on their Warley models, just received the first subscriber update with 26 improvements listed and more to follow.

I haven't received the update from Dapol about the  improvements to the A4 .you would have thought they would have it on there website

  10. are the metal buffers available a spare parts yet ? it would be good is Hornby did packs of metal buffers to fit the railroad P2 Tornado and the duke of Gloucester
