  1. The one I'd love to to would be Baird's & Scottish No1.

Bought from the LNER for industrial use. In fact certified for mainline trips between Bairds' sites around Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire.

Instantly recognisable apparently by its shiny, burnished dome.

A sort of Yul Brynner on wheels...

According to Yeadon 60512's final shed was Dundee, from 14/6/65, and was withdrawn on 19/6/65. I saw it at Perth on 30/8/65. Is it possible it never got to Dundee? I attach my photo showing it at Perth with valve gear and coupling rods removed -presumably ready for disposal.  According to Yeadon it had already been sold in July to Motherwell Machinery and Scrap Co but clearly hadn't been moved yet.

Hopefully I will be receiving the model very soon.

Actually a strange move that as I understand that '512 was withdrawn from Polmadie that summer. Perhaps a paperwork mix-up?

Finally bit the bullet and preordered a 24/1. Was told that they should be out at the back end of the year (hopefully Sept/Oct) but I’m in no rush. Will also look at a 25 in due course

Well, there's gonna be a bit of 'monkey see, monkey do' now, you know that...

Thanks for all the replies, very encouraging.

    Here’s the locos I have so far, all in various stages of completion;

Heljan class 26, livery as it came but weathered with brushed on water-based oil paints.

I’ve got some laserglaze for it but not been brave enough to attempt fitting it yet.
Otherwise just needs buffer beam pipes and the like.

And a good dusting judging from the photo!

     That's wonderful, bud!

Layout looks amazing though I'd be creeping under that bridge in a decker, given the limited headroom.:)

    Tenement looking fantastic too.

To me, this couldn't be anywhere else in the world but Leith.

    Followed. :)

  5. It's still Mike. Been 18 years since he took over from Mike Hawkins but he's ploughing on through present difficulties.

I'm looking to move north soon, but I absolutely guarantee Mike will still get my business.

His quality service and friendly manner deserve no less.

Just a heads-up, he's having a week off at the moment so go easy on the orders; I understand he's got a terrifying battle with a monster hedge booked this week!

Aye! But just think, it's not like getting a wagon out of a box and sticking it on the track, you've also got the enjoyment of building them from what looks like a smashing kit. And when you're finished, these wagons will be yours.

I'm starting with 6. The chances are that more will follow.

This is the look I'm going for. How many can you count?

I just hope the loco doesn't meet the guards van on my roundy-roundy.

I must apologise. There is absolutely no need for me to repeat myself.

Just a few then. Think you've made Ian's Xmas!

    Concur fully with that! :):good:

Indeed. I recall a colleague/boss telling me of the time he was working at Cambridge, probably Area Manager,  and had barely half an hour's notice that the Queen's sister would be arriving by car and would need taking care of before boarding a suitable train to London.

A long time ago in a previous life, I remember stooging around at Shenfield with an oppo waiting for her sis coming in from Liverpool St. Whilst her waiting PPO driver nipped across the road to the offy for a load of whisky, gin and fags... ;)

If you feed your dog a BARF (bones and raw food) diet, its poo sizes will be dramatically reduced and cleaning up after it will be a much less unpleasant task.

  10. Scubaidh Dubh wasn’t impressed with the weather at all. Didn’t stop him getting me up at 4.15 yesterday morning for the walk he missed on Saturday night when the weather was again lousy!

  11. I’m pondering whether when Hornby’s A2/2 is released whether much effort will be required to convert it into one of the quartet of A2/1s that Thompson converted from V2s whilst already under construction. Superficially they seem very similar with the wedge front cab though obviously later A2/3 style smoke deflectors were added.

I’m unaware of significant differences although there were certainly a few different boiler diagrams knocking about at the time.
