  1. As promised to Tony, a photo of nearly complete London Road Models J6 representing one of the two shedded at Copley Hill in Leeds. Of the 12 years I've had it (and thanks Tony) it spent 10 and a half years in its box with the lid coming off many times! The last 18 months have been a learning journey with many ups and downs (as I'm not in the same class as Tony and the awful instructions and illustrations that would hamper anyone). The kit itself is excellent. Attached is a photo of it in 1962 setting.
  2. Fabulous photos Tony - that is the sequence of traffic and the development of the point rodding. I'm also bowled over by the standard of modelling in all aspects by rmwebbers. This is a great daily read and far better than the Metro daily newspaper. Thanks to everyone. Stay safe.
  3. Tony may not remember - but here is his model of the W1 in 1979!
  4. What a fabulous array of kit built beauties! Long may it continue Tony.
  5. Most saddened to hear about Roy. I never met him but his vision and creation speaks volumes.
  6. The Berkeley mechanical stokers were fitted to 9Fs 92135, 92136 and 92137 for use on Saltley - Carlisle heavy freights over the Settle and Carlisle. They were initially unsuccessful because of the size and quality of the coal as they jammed the stokers on many occasions. It was very difficult to hand fire these 9Fs. Apparently when anthracite sized coal was fed it worked very well. (See Saltley Firing Days by Terry Essery - published by Silver Link).
  7. Hornby B1 tenders: They produce two types - the early type with coal backboard over the water filler dome and the later version with the coal backboard further forward. It is impossible to find just a Hornby tender body on ebay, though Bachmann loco bodies do appear from time to time.
  8. It roared! Have a look at Tim Hillier-Graves The Turbomotive - Stanier's Advanced Pacific (Pen and Sword)
  9. Simply had to post! Australia - been twice - the first time in 2007 eeing ex sugar cane engine in Port Douglas as well as a Leeds built Fowler tank engine on a plinth. Computers - love em! And after having been incredibly generously given a 60th birthday present of a London Road Models J6 by Mr. Wright ... 11 years later it is well underway!! It might even be running this year!!! Hoping Mo is well recovered! I'm normally just a daily reader of this brilliant forum. Long may it continue!
  10. Went to the Wakefield show today. Excellent with Copenhagen Fields and Grantham amongst many other top class layouts. The articulated sets ran really well on Grantham! Ride heights seemed very consistent.
  11. I came across this photo in the September 2007 issue of Steam Days … Wondered if Tony has this as part of his timetable (this is a down relief coming from Stoke Tunnel in August 1958).
  12. Seeing LB in operation the gauge difference is really not noticeable. The astonishing high standards of modelling from permanent way to signalling, scenery, locos, stock and operation - just leaves me drooling!!! This is Premier League (and my modelling is definitely Vanarama divsion 3!!). Long may it ontinue - and I'm looking forward to November's BRM!
  13. Those 2 photos sum it all up - so close to reality!!! Brilliant, Tony.
  14. Network Rail hold a vast number of plans. Try https://nr.mediastorehouse.com
  15. Have been very interested in Nick's Leeds Central. I built an embryonic one in my loft over 40 years ago. I too built the underslung end-of-platform signals, but from Ratio kits. They are stationary aswell. They are all that was left of the layout after a house move in 1983. Now I've moved a mile away from Leeds Central (with my modelling that is) and am developing my version of Copley Hill Shed. And belated congratulations to Tony W on his much deserved accolade. Dave Wisnia (Leeds)
  16. As I remember, Stoke Summit was a massive draw at most model railway shows. Brilliant!
  17. I have read and listened to Tony's argument regarding real life locations and historical accuracy (or near enough) - and I'm a subscriber to that. I've been building an impression of Copley Hill shed in South Leeds for the past 4 years (with still a long way to go) and had much help from my friend and ex colleague Tony Jones. My friends ask why? It is because it is something I remember from my teeenage years and is indelible in my memory - so I just wanted to physically see it again!! And enjoy running trains (mainly locos of course)!
  18. Spreadsheet - it's what you do when you're making the bed!
  19. Thanks for posting some pix Tony. Always a real pleasure to meet up with Tony and Mo. Hope I'll get much more time to devote to Copley Hill in the new year.
  20. A visit to my wonderful friend Mr. Wright and his equally wonderful wife Mo, prompted a video. Please visit: https://youtu.be/CKkD9aldu_s A great day. Thank you both again.
  21. Agreed. Well done Tony - absolutely brilliant. Dave W
  22. Just about there................ This is the first production sample of Heljan's forthcoming O2 in the guise of an O2/4 (ex-O2/3). It performed impeccably, hauling over 40 kit-built wagons. Any previous comments have been acted upon, so it should be on sale soon. ...... Excellent though a tad too clean!!!
