The website is now updated to reflect the model we have with sound and non sound options, you have to be loaded for the delux package, but some will be tempted.

We also have some refunds for Pre-Ordered Decoder sets !!!!!

Well done Charlie for being considerate about different options and budgets for those who want to fit sound. Can I just check that the sounds used are the same ones from the video on Bif's YouTube from a good while ago?

Of course, there is one coach that wants to lean when it shouldn't, but as noted above, quite prototypical.

Additional: On further investigation, it would appear that the bogie of the neighbouring coach is a bit warped. I@ve been able to straighten it out about 75% or so, but it's still not right. But thankfully this is only affecting one item out of 14.

We sent back four coach packs due to the bogies being warped, so it's not an isolated problem. Been waiting on them coming back since early December.

My 7 car set turned up today as well. I've got to say that for a brand new model, it's not all that much more detailed than the 1980s original, and the huge capacitor clearly visible in each car is inexcusable.

But what's getting me most are the pantographs - one of the ones on the 7 car set was broken in delivery and I've had to glue back together, but neither of those, nor the one on my separate powered NDM will actually go up and stay up. They all feel like cheap cr*p, especially compared to the full metal version in the '80s original.

Is there a trick to getting these pantographs to work that I'm missing?

    Yes Stu,

I was quite disappointed with them too. I found that you have to raise the lower part first, then adjust the top part and head angle after. Very flimsy, one half of mine was broken off too. I'm definitely looking to replace them.

Can you confirm what type of layout it's struggling with 7 cars on? I have a couple of places with a 2.2% climb on a radius 3 curve, and my plan was to run a 10 car formation with one powered NDM. Sounds like I'm going to need to do some serious surgery to make this thing run to an acceptable level :'(

My dad's layout is mostly level with two 2nd radius curves and two 3rds. It was wheel slipping at low speed coming off a reverse curve onto a slight rise.

  5. An absolute railroad of a model. No bearings on any of the coaches. The contacts create so much drag that even the seven car formation was struggling with one NDM. I'm going to have to fit pinpoint bearings and through wiring for my own sanity. Will be experimenting with different pickups too. Want to detail the interior since you can see it so well with the internal lights. There is light bleed, but is only at the doors on the TBF. Both types of pantograph are poor and flimsy, will be looking for better versions of both. Here it is at full bananas!

  6. My Dad is quite annoyed there was no new buffer beam, as promised. It really sours a £300 model if you have to snip bits and drill and fill, just to get it presentable. Hope the Fell does better.

If you wanted to go for total sound realism you'd need a decoder, or at least a speaker, for every vehicle as you'd want a startup and run sound track for each tilt pack.

Now THAT would be expensive! :o

There are other ways to get sound, especially if it's just one sound effect. Something like Train Tech's motion activated module, except it would play the tilt pump, for example.

Is £300 worth of sound decoders not unreasonable for a £1000 model?

    Guy

More like £400, also two of them will be the same, just directional. It will be interesting what solutions are produced.

  9. I'm hoping to fit DCC Sound to it once I have the full set. It looks like it will need at least 3 decoders, as you would want all the front end noises to come from the DTS and likewise all the power noises to come from the NDM. There was a hope a special pack could be done instead of just being 3x full price for each decoder. I live in hope.

  10. Ordered a separate motored NDM from Olivia's (previous happy customer) just in case the 14-car needs it. Will be using my old APT as a towed unit and it's NDMs with an HST prototype car for RTC work.

  11. I'm a bit worried that a single motorised NDM will not be enough to run a full 14 rake up to 155 on a typical layout, e.g some slight gradients and tight curves. If that's the case I hope there is still availability of them somewhere for RRP.

Agreed, if my experience with the defective batch of WC/BoB wheelsets is anything to go by Customer Services really have no knowledge of the details of the products they sell and Technical whilst being able to determine there is a fault seem not to be able to deal with the errors. I ended up with a refund and they never sent a courier to pick up the defective parts.

I had to buy a good wheelset from an eBay seller to fix the customer's loco.

That does not inspire much confidence in trying to get a defect free 14-car set! I'm guessing they would send you out what replacements they had in the hope that they were defect free until the complainant goes away. Great service.

Only thing I would say is, it's still a bit dark towards the coach ends. Otherwise it would of been a bespoke light strip and more expense and possibly delay. Where did you put it? Or did you ditch it?

    Neil.

  14. About to email Hornby to arrange a fix or return, as the bogie alignments are all over the place, not just for horizontal alignment but vertical alignment too. Between me and my Dad we have two sets of the coach packs as we are having 2 14-car sets eventually. Very disappointed and makes me worried for our 7-car sets later.

Temporarily set some of my coach sets up to see how they look and to test the lighting. Has anyone else suffered "tilt failure" yet. Not looked into why it's not sitting right, but I dread to think.

    DSC_0235.JPG

Further to my apparent tilt problem, as someone else noticed different coach levels, I discovered this bogie on my TU set. Not straight at all!

  16. Hey there. Been through a fruitless search this past week. I'm looking for either an etched or transfer of the hire plaques the 50s had on them when new. I know some models had them where appropriate, but I'm backdating mine to be an LMR example. Any thoughts on who or where does them?

    TIA Neil.
