I've cut the road/pavement areas at the left hand end of the main board. The paper templates are transferred to 2mm MDF and then very lightly sanded before spraying with a variety of colours to give a basic tarmac effect. Some Skaledale resin buildings have been arranged to see how much space I have to play with. The cardboard cutout up against the backscene is roughly where the Scalescenes modern station building will be, after I've hacked it about into a low relief version! Playing around with templates and loose buildings is always useful to me so I can get an idea of what to do next! I need to mix up some filler to give a smooth transition from the MDF to the surrounding scenic area. Eventually, I'll cut individual paving slabs for the pavements and I've asked the supplier of the cut vinyl road markings to supply a sheet of cross-hatchings for the line as it extends between the buildings and over the high street. In reality, there would be very little traffic using this part of the line and so there's no need for full gates or barriers.
As mentioned, I'm not great at scratchbuilding and because of this, I'm a big fan of some of the latest Scenecraft and Skaledale resin buildings. I couldn't hope to come close to their quality and realism. "Straight out of the box" modelling gets up some folks' noses but at least I'll weather the buildings and change the shop names etc.
Down by the road bridge is a shunter's mess room and there's just about enough room for this. There will be plenty of yard clutter and maybe a Mk4 Cortina parked outside!
Some shots of the camera-shy seldom seen LH end of the main board:
And finally, the location of the shunter's mess room, nestling in the shadow of the road bridge:
WOW WOW WOW!!!!! What happened over night when it used to be a terminus and there were no houses in sight! Really good anyway

Just a quick question about point motors. I ve started my first layout and Ive got to the stage where I need to think about point motors. What type should I use and what else do I need (I am thinking of using peco point motors but I dont know what type

good progress with the layout, but I liked it when everything looked new and unweathered. Also, with the class 466's, I think you should've kept the original chasis, but replaced the couplings with kadee's. Apart from that, really good

come on! more pictures, more progress, less house chores! The house chores can wait! apart from that, the layouts looking really good.

build one based on stewarts lane, like the diagram you have

just 1 question? Is it a single track main-line, or is it a bi-directional line or will it be double track? Good layout anyway

Im thinking of starting a layout soon. How hard are those exactoscale kits to build?

I have done a small update to the scenery and took the plunge and put some ice and snow on, as it was intended to be a winter scene. I used Precision Ice and Snow brought on there web site.
I took the lighting board off and sprayed the hole thing with photo mount spray about 18ins high, then I used the sieve that comes in the box, I filled it up with extra fine Snow and Ice powder and sprinkled it all over the top of the layout again about 18ins high and left to dry. I will put some tyre tracks from the vehicles.
Here is some photos from the top before the snow and ice.

I'll will have to occupy the layout know.
Sorry Andy I just had to do it.
Great effect! I really like it, but I think it looks a bit too uneven. Potentially make all the platforms with the same thickness of snow if possible. Possible add sections like the footbridge where the snow has been cleared, and possibly add snow on the front on some of the trains and on the roofs. Apart from that, really nice and brings out a really nice feeling of Christmas!

Hello all,
Work on the layout is almost non existent at the moment as i'm working 7 days a week although i've been plodding along with boring jobs like wiring when i get an hour free, i have also been browsing ebay far to much and picked up some new toys.
First up a Hornby 67 with Howes sound fitted, It doesn't fit the timescale of the layout but i have a few networkers and 66's so could run the layout from 2000 onwards if i choose. I am seriously impressed with the 67, After reading all the reviews when it first came out i was a little sceptical but am glad i've now got one, The gradients on the layout really do test the locos and the 67 has had no problems whatsoever.
All in all i great model that i'm very pleased with.
Next up are the Bachmann TEA's, I've always liked these but didn't buy any when they first came out so now on the lookout for more BP crude oil ones, Also need to find a reason why 100 ton tankers would be in mid Kent!
Hopefully i'l get something more productive done soon rather than playing trains.
Graham.
The reason a crude oil tank might be in kent is due to Fawley Oil refinery : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fawley_Refinery

I did go a little mad back when the bits were available.
I was thinking of having lots of these so a made some more.
2 x 4 car 465s
2 x pairs of centre cars.
Things have moved on now and I don't know what to do with all these.
Dave
Complete them and sell them on Ebay!

Evening all.
Although i was feeling worse for wear today after a night out on the town i some how managed to find the energy to get up
into the loft and do some more on the bridge.....but i did have to wait for my head to stop spinning for a few hours first tho!!!
I took these photos at the end of todays modelling session so the project is far from finished.
The ballast is down and glued and has also been weathered using an airbrush....the weeds have been too.I just stuck down the
security fence but not to sure about it so it may change to something more suitable at a later date.
As you can see from the photos i have started on the road but still more weathering needs to be done to it yet.
I spent some time doing some electrics which i hate doing and got a couple of street lights fitted to the pathways.
youve really worked on that part of the layoutt. Looks great!

Ive seen that page, and all the products look good. I think I probably won't get a kit until I have a proper layout. Fingers crossed I will get some peco flexi-track and cork for my birthday!

sorry if this is interrupting the thread, but does anyone know of a 4TC kit other than the MJT brass components ( I really don't like the idea of using brass as I would have to bring the kit into school, which could result in breakage! )?

But,......................it is not on my layout.................
With, "Hythe" @ Tinkers Park, Sussex, over the weekend. 2/3. Aug.
Sorry!
-
How could you! You introduced BR green on the layout :-( (only joking, but NSE looks much better)
-
Add more pictures of the layout! other than that, great!
-
I believe that layout needs 4th rail for the London Underground lines ( looks great already). It just seems to lack the complex and cramped trackwork of the Met. Good Job anyway!
-
Really nice atmosphere in those photos. The weather almost reminds me of December!
-
Great layout. Please do night time photos or even make an extension
-
great layout. It must look great with stock!
-
great backscene. You've captured the atmosphere of a city alot better than lots of modellers could ever hope to!
-
Just finished my end of year exams . Thought I would look at Rmweb as a reward
