    @Mike

currently William at VAG is offering a Jubilee chassis together with wheels and body.

Have you already built a loco chassis with Walschaert´s gear? If not, you might probably face some difficulties at your first attempt. So it possibly is a good idea to get some practice first with less risk of loss and do the Black 5 later.

    Hello Klaus,

thanks for the advice about William's chassis offering, I am not yet a member of VAG although I have applied this evening, therefore I cannot reply or contact him on his offer yet.

I do realise the enormity of building the Black 5 as a first build and, so, I have held off whilst I learn with something simpler and have also bought the shunter kit as a starter.  The problem is that I am not a youngster by any means and, as such, I need to hit the ground running with this new modelling venture.

    cheers,

    Mike

    Hi Mike

The chassis for the Jubilee is from Nigel Hunt of this Parish, you can find his kits on the 2mm association web site. He's  a really nice guy and really helpful. Also have you looked ar Nicks video's on the association web site they are a must and so helpful

    Hi John,

I did contact Nigel back in July, at the recommendation of other members here ; however, Nigel advised me that he no longer has those etches.

    cheers,
    Mike

I thought that I would start a separate thread for these. It is my hope to have them at least on their wheels by this time next year. I thought that if I started a thread on them I might Actually apply myself. The princes may be the most difficult as not all of the fittings are available. Lets see what happens

    Hi John,

those look great and I'll follow along as I want to build some locos.  I have the Black 5 kit but would like to get a Jubilee kit as well.  Where did you get your kits, and where will you source the chassis'?

  4. Hello all,

I am still learning, practicing and attempting to improve my CAD and printing skills.  My aim is to find out how fine I can get the detail on my models and these test prints are my latest attempt.

I haven't cleaned them up yet, the support stubs are still prominent and some supports will need repositioning; however, I am rather pleased with the detail on the Coles Crane gantry.

I need to do some further fine tuning but I'm pleased that I am finding my way around the CAD features and being able to print something that will go on my diorama.

    cheers,

    Mike

  5. I am constructing a 1950's Birmingham diorama that includes multiples of buses in the same livery and these would need different registrations and route details.  The bus model is an Oxford N Gauge Guy Arab, Birmingham double decker and there will be about six in my diorama.  There will also be various trucks, such as BRS or the like.

Can anyone please advise me of a source for any transfers for these?

    cheers,
    Mike

    Another recommendation for you:

”The Somerset Dorset Line from Above” by Kevin Potts. Lovely images of the route as it remains now including a few of the railway itself (some historical and some where preserved). Great for getting a feel for the countryside.

Are there any publications for the link Evercreech Junction to Burnham on Sea?

    Define cheap?

There are usually several on eBay - there are eight Peco and a couple of Farish ones at the moment. The Peco ones usually go for £20-60 depending on condition. You can double those prices for the Farish version.

    Steven B.

    Hi Steven,

I have a tight budget so hoping to find something for less than £75 for a working model or c30-£40 for a non-working model.

I'm confused as to whether you need the chassis or not as you are building the 2mm SA Black 5 so I'm guessing you are building a 2mm layout rather than in 'N' so would have no need for a Jubilee with an N gauge chassis, only a body.

Unfortunately the 2mm SA don't offer a chassis conversion kit for either the Farish or Peco Jubilee though so a bit more work would be needed but I do have some recollection that someone connected to the 2mm SA did produce some etches for the Peco version.

No more confused than I am Gareth.  I've joined the 2mm SA and have been purchasing track, jigs and templates etc., but locos only seem to be available in N gauge.  I have bought a 2mm kit of the Black 5; however, that is going to be a bit of a steep learning curve for me and so, I just want to get a loco for my vignette that matches what would have gone through Birmingham New Steet station in the mid-late 1950s.

Replacement chassis etches for the Peco Jubilee and the Farish Jubilee are available from Nigel Hunt; http://2mm.org.uk/small_suppliers/nigelhunt/chassis-kits.htm

Both are etches only, ie. require wheels, gears, motor, etc.

    Andy

Wow!  I didn't know that Andy.  I have been ordering stuff from Shops 1 and 3 since I joined and felt frustrated at this lack of chassis availability, and yet plenty of bodies can be obtained of Farish and Peco.  I shall send an email off ot Nigel today and see what he has.

    Thanks all,

    Mike

  8. Can anyone please help me to find/source a cheap Jubilee class loco in N Gauge?  I seem to be looking in the wrong areas.  Even a non-working model would do, so long as it has the wheels and connecting strips etc.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

    cheers,
    Mike

  9. Thanks.   I have started purchasing the 2mm Association's Black 5 kit, in parts as I can afford them, and I'm looking for a Jubilee to go with it.   I have looked on eBay although I get concerned when reading about eBay madness etc., so thought I would ask here.  Also, eBay makes you bid and the two attempts I made on something, I was immediately outbid.

I know that I'm coming over all negative, I'm actually the opposite type, but I can't be faffed with bidding plus I don't know if I would get a decent deal from strangers on that site.

Does anyone know of any eBay sellers who are trusted on here, i.e. members have bought with confidence and that offer their stuff at a set bargain price?

    cheers,
    Mike

  10. AH! sorry about that.  they are Peco parts.   I'm new this and am struggling to understand how I can get bodies, I have a few now, but cannot buy chassis'.

I shall reword my request for a complete model.

    cheers,

    Mike

  11. I would like to obtain a model of Jubilee class locomotive in N gauge please.  Preferably a working model but could consider a non-runner also.

    cheers,
    Mike

  12. As I mentioned previously, I have been using Fusion 360 for my roadside and airfield vehicles and have managed this

and now I would like to move on to helicopters and other 'rounded contour' shapes, such as this Lynx.   Any advice on where to learn to do such shapes please?

Similarly, steam locomotives such as the Jubilee and Staniers, with their rounded and contoured boilers would be nice to build.

  13. I am fairly new to anything CAD and 3D printing and, having tried a few freebies,  I found Fusion 360 suited me quite well.  It was a very steep learning curve; however, there are so many helpful tutorials on YT that it made the learning very easy indeed.

Not railway related but these two AEC aircraft refuellers were completed last week on Fusion 360 and printed today on a Photon printer.

The left model is an AEC type 0854 refueller with boom handling equipment. The one on the right is the hose type.

I am working to N gauge/1:148 and Fusion 360 allows me to produce very fine pipework and window frames.

Eventually, I would like to produce my own locomotives as well as more road vehicles.

    cheers,

    Mike
