  1. Looks like you're gonna be on show parade tonight CFN Mortimore
  2. Damm, I hoped no one would notice! Just thought of a great excuse, H&S pointed out the old ones were worn out so were replaced
  3. Thanks for the headsup, will take a look, not been on his site for some time now.
  4. Thanks for your kind words Nick, unfortunately I can't take credit for the main station building, as this was constructed by Howard Leader. I'm currently working on the platform and trying to keep it to the same standard of Howard's work, not easy I tell yer!
  5. Just a quick photo for comparison to the above picture.
  6. Quick update. The platform top has now been finished, with the coping stones scribed on. Not sure how this will look when painted, so this may need a different approach if it doesn't look right. I've also fitted the steps at the end of the platform, leading to the front of the goods shed. Next job is painting the platform sides and top, not something I'm looking forward to.
  7. Yeah that's not a bad idea, not sure what boiler was fitted to 31s, but the exhaust seems a lot different to all other diesels with boilers.
  8. That's the best shot I've seen so far, thanks Kier. Simon.
  9. What are peoples thoughts on the boiler exhaust on a class 31. Is it worth cutting out the hole to make it more realistic? My only concern is the exhaust port is quite large on the model and im unable to find any decent roof pictures showing the exhaust. Anyones help in this would be much appreciated. Simon.
  10. There are currently 3 locos in the process of being detailed and resprayed. These are all modelled in the 1982 83 period 47501, this is a VI trains 47that has had boiler blanking plate and new grills fitted. Ive also moved the right hand footstep on the bufferbeam cowling, ready to fit the ETH box 31200, a Hornby model that has had a new fan grill fitted and the waist height band fitted. 31183 another Hornby model that has had the same as above, but this has also had to have some repair work due to masak chassis rot cracking the body whilst in storage. Not sure what to do about repairing the chassis, if anyone has got any good ideas for repairing these, then I'd appreciate any thoughts. I'd also appreciate to know what others have done about the boiler exhaust, would it look better to drill it out?
  11. As im now finding my way into rmweb, thought it was time to start my own workbench thread. Since i got back into modelling 15 years ago, I've steadily been collecting, building and modifying rolling stock for my own Horncastle layout, and for our clubs oo finescale layout(yet with no name). Finally finished these parkside VEA kits last year, really enjoyed buiding these kits, went together really well. I think in time, will have to purchase some more of these vans.
  12. An East Anglian interloper engaged on platform clearance runs.
  13. Thanks Keith, so as I'm assuming that it survived into the 1980s, there would of course been some track rationalisation. So to that end I omitted the sidings that were at the back of the station, and also to the 2 warehouses that would have at the front of the layout. Ironically, one of those warehouses is the only building that still survives on the site.
  14. Fortunately Clive, all these rooms have lighting and the booking hall doors are open, so you should hopefully see Howard's work.
  15. Steady work is being made on the platform, with the edge wall being completed last night. Next job is to make the top, scribe in the coping stones and add drain covers for the down pipes from the building.
  16. And another 2 of the booking hall.
  17. Here are a couple of shots, supplied by Howard, of the booking on point and mess room.
  18. This is just a quick introduction to my current project, Horncastle. Horncastle was a branch terminus on the edge of the Lincolnshire wolds. Whilst the line was very successful until British Railways took over, the branch closed to passengers in 1954 and freight in 1970 when the Lincolnshire loop line closed. As my internet is in the BR blue period, I decided to build it as if the loop line was still in use, which in turn kept the Horncastle branch open. As this layout was designed to fit in a bedroom at our old house, the layout is limited to 12'x 2', with some modifications to the prototype track plan. I have envisaged that a grain silo and UKF fertiliser depot where opened on the site in the late 60's, and I've used these buildings to hide the fiddle yard. The original goods shed was taken over by a tyre distribution company after the line closed, and so I have modelled this as if it were still the case. The station building has recently been constructed by Howard Leader, http://bespokemodelbuildings.co.uk/index.html and has done a magnificent job at creating a wonderful building, many thanks Howard! Will leave it here for now, but will post more in the near future. Simon.
  19. So I registered to RMweb many years ago, but have never really found the time to sit down and explore this site. But as I'm currently sat in Notts mess room with nowt to do for 2 hours, I thought it was time to give it a whirl so to speak. As I'm getting close to finishing my first model railway project, Horncastle, I will post some shots in the appropriate place soon. But for now, hello and I look forward to reading other peoples projects and pick up a few tips on the way. Cheers for now. Simon
