I was watching these amazing films and they made me think of your layout.

I like the Primo Models range of trees and will be reasearching pictures to see where I might add some of their impressive Larch and Spruce. My tree identification skills are in management speak 'a learning opportunity' but I want to update the 3 trees in the top right front of the first picture and growing out of 37 roof in the second picture below. What are they?
Google Lens suggested these. I don't think they're exactly right, but they are pretty close.

Thats it for now. More updates on the way shortly! I hope this more longer post type explaining my work and showing the real life prototypes proves a little more interesting than one image a short description! Let me know what you think! Thanks
Good job on the wagon.
I like these longer step-by-step posts. For a beginner like me it is really useful to see the intermediate steps. And to be able to compare them to the real thing (easily and without having to repeat the research myself) is also useful. Thank you.

With regard to the 3D printing, I have started a new topic in that section..."Layout in a shed Part 2 - 3D printing".

In fairness, at least their eras go up to 11. Bachmann have the last 25 years as one era.
I first read that as "In fairness, at least their egos go up to 11."

Ordered Wednesday lunchtime (after stumbling upon this thread), arrived Friday morning. Very well packaged.
Lovely looking book, as others have said, modern and refreshing. I'm really looking forward to reading it and putting the knowledge into practice designing my yet-to-be-built layout.
Thanks James and Simon.

How did the crew access the cockpit? Was it via the steps on the outside? Thanks

Next is painting and weathering of the walkways.
I decided to use the Lifecolour set of acrylic wood effects on the wooden decking. This was done by first, painting all the wood with a well water diluted mix of the base colours.
Note the trick to put aluminium foil over the pallette to save cleaning it each time
Ignoring for a second the amazing modelling on the bridge, that foil trick is genius!

Some more digging has revealed that invisioncic.com is categorised as "Miscellaneous or Unknown" by ZScaler (the proxy that my employer uses). This category is blocked. I have filled out a ZScaler form to say that I think this categorisation is incorrect but have no idea if this will have an effect.
ZScaler have recategorized content-eu.invisioncic.com from "Miscellaneous or Unknown" to "Other Information Technology".
This latter category is obviously permitted by my employer's policy as I can reach it and RMweb now renders correctly. So my productivity is now going to decrease.
I hope this is useful to anyone else who has to suffer from using ZScaler.

Thanks for trying, but unfortunately it is still looking the same.
A wee bit of amateur debugging seems to show that the CSS are hosted on content-eu.invisioncic.com which is explicitly blocked on the proxy.
Looks like I'll just have to stick to my personal devices.
Thanks for the quick response.

That's normally indicative of an issue with the CSS or the caching of such. Normally I'd suggest precisely what you are not permitted to do. I've given the server cache a flush to see if that helps you, it may bump start the iffy engine.

Hi
I can't see any mention of this issue in the thread so am raising it to see if anyone else has seen it and whether there might be a workaround.
The site loads quickly and completely on my phone and my personal laptop. However on my work laptop, it renders as a mostly text page with huge images that just contain a single letter that I think correspond to avatars. The site used to render fine before the enforced change of host. I have tried Edge and Chrome on this laptop (the only two browsers available to us). I have waited before posting this as I am not permitted to clear cache/history and hoped that something would expire. I assume our corporate proxy is blocking some crucial aspect of the forum.
Has anyone else seen this and if so did you find a workaround?
Clearly this is not critical, after all I should be working! But it is frustrating not being able to check in during breaks.
Thanks for any input, and a repeat of the many thanks given to Andy and team for getting the forum back up and running.

The Art Of Railway Modelling by James Hilton

Posted
I ordered The Art Of Railway Modelling from Wild Swan Books yesterday at 11.30am
It has just arrived (in Edinburgh), beautifully packaged, less than 24 hours later. Great service, thank you.
I enjoyed the Small Layout Design Handbook and am looking forward to this one.
