  1. Hi Bob, Progress is looking good. May I suggest some tamiya tape for doing the window frames and gutters. It's basically masking tape for modellers and won't remove any painting you've already done. It comes in different sizes and so is easy to get some nice neat lines. Regards, John
  2. Good luck lez, looks a very interesting project. Can't wait to see the finished track. All the best, John
  3. Happy New year Bob, let's hope this next one is better all round! Look forward to seeing more of Cambrian Street. John
  4. Hal o' the Wynd for me. Very evocative.
  5. Hi caz that's what I did. I left a gap for a work bench and put my baseboards over the top. Pretty cost effective and loads of storage... John
  6. I felt the same way regarding the forecast bob. Awoke to a pretty fine layer but heavier just half a mile or so away. Very picturesque nonetheless and a definite week to do some modelling. John
  7. Herring Gull, for much of the same reason as Jamie. Seems awkward for something of such grace. John
  8. Hi Bob, As I said I haven't built my platforms as yet? If they're still available I'd be interested if that's OK? Canopy looking good so far. I find the Dapol (airfix) kits pretty forgiving so id imagine a bit of patience and you'll be pleased with the outcome Many thanks, John
  9. Hi Bob, Here's a quick shot from distance when I first built it. It's just placed and I have no platforms yet hence the stanchions looking rather bent and too tall. But you get the effect.... John
  10. Hi Bob, Yes I do I'm working on it as we speak. It's based on the cambrian too. Track work for the first section (station and yard) has just been completed and I'm hoping to start my layout thread very soon. Just out for a boxing day walk but I can send you a pic of canopy and station a bit later on? Thanks, John
  11. Hi Bob I bought the wills one for a kit bash with the ratio GWR station and swapped the canopies out for my BR(W) layout. The kit went together very well and I was more than pleased with the outcome. Hope you had a good Christmas. John
  12. Merry Christmas Bob, all the very best to you and yours. Look forward to seeing more of cambrian Street next year. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you. John
  13. Perhaps it's a G-scale gondola! Those hook and hole modifications should be a little easier to see!
  14. That's brilliant and a really nice idea for an exhibition layout. The history of the hobby is just as fascinating as the future and to see how far it's come is testament to the modellers who built layouts like yours back in 1961. As for the fake cigarette, there's more chance of the poor nipper being influenced by his dad and becoming a prize #*@# rather than a smoker. I'm sure he was more enthralled with the trains. Not that I condone smoking but come on! I really enjoy seeing updates on this layout, I'd have love to have gone to China in those later years. I was inspired as a kid by a video by Maggie Whitehouse (daughter of Patrick) on china's railways. Unfortunately I was much too young to see it. Now its consigned to books and YouTube but we have to be thankful of a resource like YouTube for such. Your layout definitely goes someway to creating an atmosphere I could only have imagined. I look forward to seeing it in the future. John
  15. What a beautiful layout it was. First time I had seen it was today, browsing through the thread. Lots of atmosphere and excellent modelling. Good luck with the new project. John
  16. Hi Squatch, Fantastic shots and descriptions once again. I'm very intrigued in your uncoupler design. Will it be "powered" or manual operation? Cheers, John
  17. Looking great, amazing what difference it makes. How about a fence or a row of neat immaculate hedging or flower beds if appropriate in this area? If not perhaps some period lamp posts and general station items, milk churns, luggage, outside toilet block. Perhaps it'd be a good space for a cameo scene to take the eye away from the join? John
  18. I'm sure she is in very good hands Bob. If anything the last few months have shown what miracles our fantastic health care staff can perform. Best wishes to you and of course your relative. John
  19. Hi Bob, Sorry to hear about the family illness. I'm glad you are finding some solace in modelling. I feel there's not much better for the soul. On a strange note... Our passed comments on 3801 and the C38 class were a touch of foresight.... As 3801 has been restored to working order for the first time in 11 (I think) years I put it to Hornby as a product suggestion earlier in the year and low and behold I got notification from hattons today of the forthcoming release. I was gobsmacked! The unstreamlined will be offered first and then the streamliners to follow. I pre-ordered immediately. Fantastic news. Hard to justify on my new BR (W) layout but hey at the end of the day, it's where we go to find our solace and enjoy. Take care, John
