  1. Just my point of view.

Yes we were supposed to see the DRS livery sample a few months ago but would you rather see a sample that isn't good enough, isn't what we want, isn't what Dapol want and for that to be printed onto the models and then them arrive in a poor condition and be paying £123 each.

Or alternatively we can wait a few months longer, wait for the DRS livery sample to be correct and to everyone's desire and then be paying for models that are finished to a high standard.

I think Dapol and all of us all agree that we want the 68s to be as good as possible and rushing them through the production process will just not achieve this.

The main point is patience is a virtue.

  2. Just thinking. This topic was started on the 22nd April. It says and has said for a couple of weeks on the Kernow website that the model has left China and they should have it within 28 days. As today it's the 30th May and tomorrow the 31st I would think they should have it now.

Do we think that it arrived with Freightliner Powerhaul 66416 and DRS Revised 66434 last week on that shipment? Could Kernow just be fitting some with DCC Decoders and some with DCC Sound Decoders before advertising the model on their website? Because it does say they are offering a standard ready to run version, DCC Fitted and DCC Sound Fitted.

  3. New model. Bought from Freightliners eBay shop for a great price (£114). Looks great and finished really nice. Was going to pass but at the price I couldn't resist.

Will get a decent update soon on some new stock and a few repaints.

Thank you very much for the photos of this fantastic looking loco! It's very much appreciated.

Bachmann have done a fantastic job as usual. I think the Powerhaul livery suits the 66s.

I'm looking to acquire some of these models. One to keep as 416 and some to renumber.

  4. 66557 heads west along the Calder Valley at Ravensthorpe on 19th May 2016 with 4M21, 0905 Hunslet Yard to Crewe Basford Hall.  I assume that this is a working of empty HHAs to Crewe for storage or possible future aggregate use.  It's certainly not a regular working.

    Fantastic photo!

Welcome back to 66557! It's been out of use at Leeds Midland Road since last year. I noticed either yesterday or Tuesday that it was at the front of the depot, whereas for the past few months it's been kept in the new sidings at the back of the depot.

    It's looking absolutely immaculate!

  5. Do you need that many ? I'd get your ltd edition for some variety.

These lists always make me laugh, reminds me of when I was 5 and listed the entire Hornby catalogue for Santa to deliver !

That's very true and I can see your point.

I do have a lot of Limited Editions and the only reason why I have decided not to buy the three GBRF 66s is because I don't model GBRF and I don't have anything to run with them. That would mean spending more money on stock/wagons/coaches to run with them. I mainly model Freightliner and DRS and if I started to model GBRF I would then be wanting all of the special liveries. At the moment their is 701 in original and Europort livery, 709 in MSC Ship livery, 711 in Aggregates, 718, 720 Children's/Rainbow livery, 721, 737 with the large number seven, 746 in Royal Scotsman, 751 with the different/adapted couplings and 779 in Green.

I have also read on another thread that the Barbie liveried 66s are next in line for a repaint which are 723-728. 723 might be getting a special livery as might 743.

So that's at least twelve GBRF 66s because they have special liveries or their different/unique. Some of which are already been produced and no doubt the others will follow suit. Probably a good couple of thousand to acquire them all, so at that sort of money it's not really an option.

  6. This is one of the two new structures to be built, it has a crane built inside of it.

66501 Japan 2001 was waiting to be fuelled up earlier

     attachicon.gif66501 Japan 2001 (5).JPG

66596 has very clean bogies ( it has been around Midland Road for quite some time since 21st of April ), photo also taken today.

    attachicon.gif66596 (18).JPG

    All fantastic photos! Well done!

The new buildings are really taking shape now. I was looking from a passing train the other week.

Haven't heard that 596 has had a bogie overhaul but it could be possible. 501 and 532 were their for several weeks whilst undergoing theirs.

Nice to see Powerhaul 414 in one of the above photos as well.

  7. 66523 and 66517 ( on temporary bogies ) at Midland Road earlier today.

    attachicon.gif66523.JPG

    attachicon.gif66517.JPG

    Fantastic photos! Well done!

To my knowledge 501 and 532 have had their bogies overhauled so far and 517 and 523 are the third and fourth locos to receive the same treatment.

I think one of the new sheds (the furthest to the back of the depot) is going to be specifically dedicated for overhauling the 66s bogies.

  8. The 3 Grey machines where my favourite livery, I think it really suited the 66 shape.

743 I understand is currently being painted in Royal Scotsman maroon to match 746.

The Barbie's are going to be next into standard livery but 723 may be getting a "special" paint job.

Thank you very much for letting us know.

I really liked the three grey liveried GBRF 66s.

Looking forward to seeing 743 in Royal Scotsman livery, the Barbie liveried 66s in the Europort colour scheme and possibly 723 having a different paint job.

  9. As I have mentioned on another thread regarding this model you have to consider that because it's weathered that probably takes account of £20 or so of the £175. I personally don't like factory weathered models or weathered models whatsoever if I'm honest. I prefer the pristine/standard finish. For me it's annoying that I would be paying £20 for something that I don't want.

Although it's a very good, unique loco and I completely agree with the above post regarding a respray of this model costing more than £175 and hats off to Kernow for commission Bachmann to produce it. If you think a standard 407 or 412 Compass model is between £90-£100. Then their is postage both ways too and from the resprayer (around £20 for Special Delivery) and then the work to be carried out and weathering if wanted. That's got to be equal if not more than £175 so I don't think anyone can quibble really.

As I mentioned £20 of the £175 is probably for the weathering. If the loco wasn't weathered it would probably be £155 or a bit less which would be more reasonable but it's down to Kernow and what they want to commission Bachmann to produce. You also have to consider that I don't think that DRS would have given the 66/4s a wash before sending them to Freightliner (411-420). I remember seeing them at Midland Road just before Christmas 2011 when they first transferred to Freightliner. They did have a coat of grime and looked very tatty and make do and mend ish livery wise.

I think it's nice that the cab windows are weathered too because from the photos I have seen of the locos in reality they have had some grime build up on the cab windows.

It's also nice that Kernow & Bachmann are replicating the transition liveries between FOCs companies which doesn't happen often and when it does it often goes under the radar.

I personally like to keep up with the liveries and although this livery is now obsolete as of nearly a year ago it's still unique and looks good and maybe a possibility for me.

Nice work between Kernow & Bachmann I would say.

  10. I've not seen any decent transfers for the EWS maroon numbers or letters. Apparently they can't replicate the colour very easy and they always look to light. The weathering will be a challenge on 065, there are a few running round like this now though..

    Good luck....

I didn't even consider the weathering on 065 in relation to renumbering until now. That's something to think about and it might be possible.

  11. I know they're not due just yet but don't forget the two EWS / DB as well, 66040 and 065, and the GB Aggregates 66711   :declare:

    That's also very true.

I'm opting for some Freightliner 416 models and DRS 434 models to renumber and possibly a 418 model. I'm leaving the four GBRF 66s because I don't really model or run GBRF locos. As for the EWS 66s I'm considering a 040 and three 065 models, two to renumber.

  12. I totally agree with you, couldn't believe my luck when I saw the box 'Pre-Order'...

But I wouldn't worry about acquiring both of them they don't run as a pair, but I'm sure there are plenty to go round.

There is a glut of 66's in manufacture this year having hardly had any new ones for several years...

The last I believe were both LE's 66111 and 66050...

    That's very true.

66416, 66418, 66434, 66718, 66720 and 66721 are all due for release in the next couple of months.

Yes I do think that 050 and 111 were the last ones to be produced although both were Limited Editions.

  13. I did originally want to acquire these two but I have decided not to now just because of the price and the amount of other locos and stock that I want to acquire.

I have been checking the LTM website regularly though to see the availability and I have only seen on one occasion the opportunity to pre-order one. Bu then what if you pre-order one and you can't pre-order the other to go with it. Doesn't seem to make very much sense to me. The locos are a pair more or less because they were repainted at the same time, the liveries were/are for the same purpose and just in my eyes the majority will want them both.

Something I have noticed though throughout this thread and since the models were announced is that various people have been told various things by LTM. The ordering process also seems unfair and lacks consistency. Why can you only acquire one of the models in a one/two day window before you have to wait and pre-order again? It does seem very difficult for people to be able to actually pre-order one. You would also think for the amount of money they are each that pre-ordering would be easy and simple and not difficult and complex.

  14. My take on this new 66418 model is it's good because it's a combination of two liveries and a loco that has seen use with two operators. So quite unique.

However the drawbacks for me are that the livery is now obsolete because 66418 was repainted into the Freightliner Powerhaul livery in May/June 2015. The model is also weathered so you could say that an additional £20 or so has been added on to account for that. For me I don't like factory weathering and in fact I don't really like weathered locos at all. So paying an additional £20 for something that I don't want and can't change is not something I'm keen to do.

A shame that this isn't a model identical but with a different running number that still wears this livery. For example 66413, 66415 or 66419. This model could be renumbered to bring it up to be a current loco in the current livery although this surely then defeats the object of it been a Limited Edition. Granted Kernow won't have known that it would be repainted when commissioning Bachmann to produce it so nothing could have been done their.

I would say that 66416 in Powerhual livery would be a better option because it's a standard model, which is significantly cheaper and wears the latest livery.

All in all though the model of 66418 is very good and wears two liveries and has been operated been two different FOCs meaning that it's something quite special that is rarely replicated on a model because it rarely happens in reality. Hats off to Kernow and Bachmann for this one even if the livery is now obsolete.

  15. They are running a poll on which liveries people want.

I have expressed my interest in the Chiltern stock...

Thank you for making us aware of this.

Please can you tell us how we inform them which MK3 coaches we would like to see?

    Thank you in advance.

  16. With alll the price rises on standard models announced I am wondering as to whether these will actually go up in price. And is that the reason they have been taken off the 'for sale' position  :O

    Completely agree with you here.

It has been known before to happen where the first initial batch/amount of models are sold for one price once bought/pre-ordered and then the later batches increase in price.

I really hope not with these two, because if that happens their is no way I will be able to afford either of these models. As if nearly £154 each isn't enough.

I suppose with them due to arrive in May/June it won't be long until we find out if they have increased the price...

  17. And with Bachmann's latest increase in Class 66 prices the tab on these exclusive LT models doesn't seem too bad (ish!) :O

    Mal

    Completely agree with you their!

I have mentioned these two models and this subject in the Bachmann 2016 Announcements thread.

  18.

Thank you for letting us know.

That's very interesting to know seen as their supposed to be Exclusive to LTM.

Although previously Hattons have sold the following Limited Editions: EWS 66050, DRS 37402, possibly EWS 66111 on behalf of other retailers.

I suspect their is some agreement that retailers like Hattons, Olivias and R3Sprays can sell locos on behalf of other retailers. I would say that's a very good option though because it allows the models to be outreached to people who many not know about LTM and their website as generally more people probably know about Hattons through the large shop, website and large amount of advertising that they do.

I hope that Hattons do sell some of them on behalf of LTM just because it's easier for me to order from them as they already have my details etc logged on the system and it saves me doing all of that again on the LTM website.

With the large amount of locos and stock I currently have on my list I am still considering if I can afford both of these although I am hoping so.

  19. A little bit further to my post Jim, Looks like another Colas toy should be out soon as ex Spa Valley Railway resident as 37254 appears to have been on the Loadbank at Barrow Hill in the past week, now has it's windscreens changed and OTMR box et all fitted. And it's still complete in INTERCITY Swallow livery.

    Thank you for the info.

That sounds about right because it was originally due to debut back on the mainline in March I think so in that case everything has gone to plan and should do, all been well.
