  1. So, when all the baseboards were installed and level- the wall batons were screwed up first and then the frames built from them outwards, the legs were added and adjustable feet were used so that if the carpet settled over time or thangs needed to be adjsuted then there was about 10mm on up/down available at each leg.  The pre-cut MDF tops were screwed on and levels cheked again.  One of my lessons learned from the garage was that time spent here would pay back in spades as that layout was a bit all over the place level-wise which led to loose vheicles running away when uncoupled which wasnt good.

They always say it tkaes 3 layouts to learn how to do things properly- well this is my second as an adult and we have level baseboards!

I put up a loose-laid DC powered loop and ran an old triang battle of briatin around just to see things moving when all the boards were in place....great sense of achievement.

next was the varnishing of the outer frames and legs- not strictly necessary but I had a spare tin from another project and then I painted the tops an earth colour with some emulsion as a base for everything.

Having thought about various methods of how to add scenary i decided that baseboard strength and stability were paramount so all scenary would be built-up from track level.

The folding flap next to the room door as hinged to allow access, but I realy use it- just duck under..

  2. Hey folks, Ive started adding pics- it's a bit experimental and Ill suss out how to do it better in due course.  Hopefully, you'll get the idea.  There's not rocket science in the construction- although I did get my baseboards (9mm MDF) laser cut to size.  That was not strictly necessary as I could have sawn them up myself but it was fun!

More on the use of laser cutting later......

    Hope you enjoy!!
