I would like to remove the 'GVT' logo on the side tanks of a Bachmann Baldwin loco. I'm interested in the technique adopted in the attached YouTube video which uses Vallejo Airbrush flow improver to remove Bachmann numbers without damaging the underlying base paint. Has anyone successfully tried this method or what alternatives do you suggest?

I've always used a fibreglass pencil to remove logos, words etc. Just rub gently, take your time and don't overdo it.

I like the look of the Tramfabriek chopper couplings but most of my locos don't have NEM sockets (and those that do can vary in height). Have you tried fitting these couplings to any plain buffer beams such as Minitrains/Roco/Liliput, etc?

No I haven't, most of my stock is Peco or Bachmann. I do have some Minitrains wagons but they are only used permanently coupled to a Minitrains loco.

Hi Andy thanks.  They do look good, quite pricey though.....

Yes they are a bit expensive but I only use them on the coach / wagon next to the loco. I tend to keep my coaches / wagons permanently coupled together with the Peco short couplings. With a magnet under the track I can uncouple very easily. I have tried the Greenwich couplings but find them very tricky to assemble.
Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet 😀😀

You are right Andy there were only two. The third was just a kick back siding from up by the junction…. We have made it in to an up goods loop as it significantly improves operational flexibility .

Thanks Phil, I knew there would be a good reason. I spent a lot of time around that bridge over the years.

No layout or loco work for the last 48 hours…. Had the pleasure of a visit from @Andy 17 and his good lady yesterday ….. fettled the DCC settings on his 009 loco and had a good waffle, and thanks both for the cream teas. Really enjoyed those last night.

It was good to catch up with you Phil. Thanks for all the fettling, Bridget now runs a lot smoother. Glad to hear you enjoyed the cream teas.

    Hi Ade,

Sorry it’s been so long since I posted anything. I’m slowly making some progress and I’ll try to make more regular updates.

  7. I’ve weathered “Bridget” and added Modelu crew figures. Also started applying  weathering to some wagons as well. A line side fence from Scale Model Scenery has been put in place at the top of the rock face.

Just because its on F10 doesnt mean its sound slot 10, the sound slots can be mapped to any function. You need to ask whoever made the sound file, which is often SWD for factory fitted locos using ESU decoders. If not, someone with a lokprogrammer might have the same loco and might be able to read the decoder settings to see what sound slot the whistle is.

Thanks Richard, I’ve been in touch with them and got the necessary list of CVs.

  9.

I have a Bachmann Baldwin 10-12-D 009 gauge loco with a Loksound 5 decoder fitted. F10 controls the Guards Whistle, which is far too loud compared to the engine sound. According to the ESU manual, CV 331 controls sound slot 10 with a range of 0-128 and a factory default of 128.

I have set CV31 to 16 and CV32 to 1 as per the manual before I tried altering CV331.

However no matter what value I set in CV331, the volume does not change.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong, please?

  10. I've finally sorted the problem of the short. It seems that the wire to the frog from the SEEP PM1 point motor was causing the problem as it's not needed on the Peco Electrofrog 009 points.  I've disconnected the wire and everything is now working as it should.

Many thanks to everyone who offered me advice.

    Best Wishes
