  1. That was it. ;)

For what is acheivable with US O Scale in 12ft x 2ft TOTAL space, may I humbly suggest perusal of another Layout Thread... (which I might equally humbly claim to have inspired Nick to have a go at O Scale)

    Portway Center

    :D

While TVNAM is on, I will be in Florida :sungum: hope to catch some CSX action & visit Colonial Photo & Hobby Store in Orlando

  2. I've pre ordered a Walther's Proto F7 in Southern for the Birmingham special today from Model junction and the Broadway limited A is now available in the U.S, should be available in the U.K by Christmas.

I'm hoping that Broadway will upgrade their E units with paragon 3 and do them again in Southern. At least I can consist them and have the extra bass from the Broadway unit!!

Also a little help if you could, Atlas have this caboose that they say is from the 1940's onwards. If I paint out the later burger logo would this be correct or is this one from an absorbed railroad?

looks pretty close to the prototype - this is 1 number up in the sequence

  3. This afternoon, I went looking for a CP train that I’d seen earlier today and found it in one of the two places I knew it would be. It was switching inside a private industry, so I had to wait for it to come out to take pictures. While I waited, there was traffic passing on the CP line into Vancouver. (Unfortunately, all pictures had to be taken against the sun.)

Having said at the end of last week, that I hadn’t managed to photograph a SD30C-ECO yet, two went past on a transfer of grain cars to the elevators in Vancouver docks. Here are #5014 and #5016:

    attachicon.gifIMG_0217.JPG

I believe these units are major rebuilds of SD40-2s. Some of the later ones were to use SD40-2Fs (“Red Barns”).

Then a very long stack train came east, with CN power – SD70M-2 #8011 and C40-8W #2718 (sublettered for Illinois Central):

    attachicon.gifIMG_0229.JPG

Finally, the train I’d gone to photograph came out of the private yard on its way back to Port Coquitlam with GP38-2 #3026 and “control cab” #1126. 1126 was built as a GP35 and converted in 1996.

    attachicon.gifIMG_0233.JPG

I like the way the  SD30C-ECO 's look like SD45's with the flared radiators

  4. Those controllers sound well dodgy!!! :O :D

My H&M Duette wouldn't look at O scale locos. I think they're only 1Amp 'each'.

I do like my Atlas RS3, don't get me wrong. The individual grab irons were a big atraction, especially as they are curved on the hood ends. With a Loksound L sound decoder loaded with the Alco244 12-cyl. engine, it splutters along just like the real thing. As one viewer at a Show said, all it needs is a smoke unit! (I think the RS1 has one!). My response was that I didn't want to set off the venue's fire alarms ;)

...plus, of course, as yet I haven't seen a smoke unit capable of chucking out the thick black clag of an Alco :locomotive: :sungum:

I managed to get my 40 yr old H&M duette to run my G scale RS-3 in the garden - was a bit warm tbh after a while :)

  5. £62 belongs in the "Ebay Madness" Thread. The GP35 price isn't too bad, unless you got one for less than £100 a few years ago like I did... :P

Dan; don't worry - I haven't got anything from that lot either....

I had the B&M boxcar - nothing much else I fancied tbh within the sensible price range - too much older stuff - Paul......

  6. Well, here it is! What we've all (me at least!) been waiting for:

    attachicon.gifsd35 1.jpg

    attachicon.gifsd35 2.jpg

Now here's the story. This is just an account of what happened. It is not meant to be a review or feedback or recommendation.

I searched on Google for Atlas O 2 rail SD35 NW and got a hit straightaway. It took me to the Public Delivery Track. On the page was a photo, a description and the facility to add to basket. Before I did, I e-mailed them and asked if they would ship to the UK. The answer was a curt yes at $70 (turned out to be $90 actually). So I placed and order.

I received e-mail confirmation and another e-mail giving me my account details which had been set up at the time of ordering. About a week later, I checked via my account on the order status and it said it was awaiting fulfillment. I e-mailed the Public Delivery Track to check whether they actually had it or whether it was what we had in the early days of buying online where people would advertise stuff and there was no way you would ever get it. I received no reply.

I checked the order status a week later and it said the same. I sent a message via my account and said if it wasn't in stock to cancel the order. All this time my card had not been charged which again arose suspicion as to whether I would get it.

Again, no reply. Another few days go by and I notice when doing some banking online that the card has been charged. I checked the order status and it still says awaiting fulfillment.

So I e-mailed again and did get a reply this time to say it had been dispatched and they would try and find a tracking number. i replied asking for the tracking number. Again, nothing. I e-mailed again and asked for the tracking number. Guess what?

Finally, yesterday came the request from Parcelforce for money and today, it arrives.

I have just checked the order status:

    attachicon.giforder status.jpg

    I rest my case.

Now you just need one of these to add a bit of colour

  7. How much is the VAT, Nick?? Help us work out if you've had a bargain..!!! ;)

Now watching several Atlas O locos that are on UK Ebay .... but not eyeing up exactly the ones everyone would expect me to be after.... :P

A couple of them are 3-rail though - even though it doesn't state they are

    Paul.........

  8. I finally got chance to open the OP link at home just now... never mind crazy industries and rails everywhere.... I went across the town a bit and found THIS... :O :o :O

What is a Roundabout doing in N. America...????? Do they know what it is?? Doesn't it confuse them??? :scratchhead:  :jester:

Coat on, left the building........ :stinker:

Been severely scared by the Somerville Circle in PA where traffic entering the circle off 202 at like 70mph has priority over you on the circle - have also seen them in Florida as well.

    Paul........

  9. I have a copy of Southern Pacific 1987/88 Motive Power Pictorial by Joseph W. Shine.

It lists all the equipment painted in the SPSF Red and Yellow Scheme.

    They were: SW99E 1,SW1500 2, MP15 1,SD35E1,SDP453,GP9E 9,GP35E 5,GP35 8,SD40R 6,

    SD44R 1,SD45R 17, GP40-2 1,B30-7 2,SD40T-2 8,SD45 2,SD54T-2 14,SD45-2R 4, plus 1 caboose.

One assumes the Santa Fe did something similar.

  10. Highpeak, thank you for confirming I am going about things in the right way.

I won a Santa Fe GP50 in an NMRA raffle, it's not a road I had any interest in to be honest. But the livery grew on me so I ended up detailing the model and if asked I said it was working off horse power hours. I found also that viewers at exhibitions had heard of the Santa Fe and this made them realise they were looking at a model of American operations.

Here we see SF #3814 arriving at Benson with a train of covered hoppers.

Having now become something of a fan I bought a second hand GP 38-2 wearing the SF/SP merger that never happened livery. It is an ex Preoria & Western loco actually. It's a bit bright but I rather like it.

It would seem some 300 odd locomotives were re-painted at this time, woops.

Here we see #2375 arriving at Colonel's crossing with a cut of empty ore cars then at rest on the engine house track

you can never have too much Kodachrome

  11. The olive set with the B/G Mk2 Aircon in sounds more like the Crewe Electric Test Train from the Mid 1990's, and was used to commission 92's and other locos that had received attention. I'm sure I had a list of the numbers somewhere but can't find the resourse, and the Mk2 I had set aside for the rake currently has a fictional ADB number on...

Looking at current pics of some of these coaches on departmentals.com

ADB975051 & ADB977084, ADB977085  still exist  & were still at Crewe in OG as late as 2005

    Cheers
