I suggest you download the High Level gearbox planner, and start rotating various configurations (with bits of paper) and overlaying them on the loco drawing, for example:
If you can print the High Level Gearbox planner onto tracing paper it's an easy job to hold over a drawing of the 47xx then to see the best configuration.

Well revisited the plan last night and decided to remove the sliding traverser and replace with removable cassettes off the main line and engine shed which i've found easier to operate anyway. This gives the advantage that it now takes up a much smaller area so i can bring an additional scenic section in front of it.
The coaling/oil storage area i will have a think about the layout whether to go with a single, double or triple road. If i had the space i would have a dedicated line off the main for these so alleviating any problems shunting close to the goods warehouse.

I'm looking to build a layout for my EM stock, my stock covers GWR/LMS and LNWR a right old mix.
I have the timber for the boards cut and ready to assemble. Size will be 9'-0 x 1'-6 (2730 x 450) on 3 boards each being 3'-0 long. There will be 2 scenic sections with the third board taking up a sliding or similar fiddle yard for storage.
I'd prefer a small station doesn't have to be a terminus can be passing but in EM it will be only small. I'm looking at 2 coach operation 3 i think will take up too much room, in my initial very basic idea i've added a bay for a rail motor. There is a siding off the bay for coaling/water maybe a small engine shed and on the end of the passing loop a small siding for cattle/goods.
As i've plenty of width on the boards i've shown a couple of goods lines off the fiddle yard to add some interest maybe to an industrial unit of some description.
I'd appreciate any comments, criticism, ideas in the past i've tried to add too much track and the boards have been awash with turnouts etc but i'd like to keep it simpler while still keeping some operational interest.

That's sad news indeed, i'm not sure if it was something sudden or after a prolonged bout of illness but he will be sadly missed.
I was only thinking about Chris the other day and was going to ring about a 94xx and J50 chassis kits.
Well i'm sure his estate will have some sorting out to do but i do hope the items he used to sell can be kept going. Time will tell.

Hi David
Firstly Happy New Year to you and Mrs Gladiator.
Do you have any news on how the resin firebox for the Duchess is progressing please?

Failing that DCC do two sets of 00SF gauges one for code 75 bullhead http://www.finescale.org.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=346_375_376&product_id=12217 the other set for code 82 flatbottom (head is thinner) one is a standard roller gauge the other is a check rail gauge
Thanks for that its not obvious from the website that the 2 are actually a track gauge and a check gauge.
Cheers

Anyone any ideas where i can get 15.2mm check gauges from for OO sf? as C&L don't seem to have them and my search on the internet has drawn up a bit of a blank
Cheers

Hi all,
Just spoken to Pete at C&L who tells me there won't be any revised cheek chairs for a 1mm flangeway as the die cost is prohibitive so it'll be 0.8 or 0.68.
I'm new to build your own turnouts and am in the process of ordering a few parts from C&L, but as the 0.8 chairs are out of stock for several weeks (maybe Easterish) i was wondering about anyones opinion about utilising the P4 variants for 0.68 instead and cutting those instead of waiting and cutting the OO/EM versions.
Is there a difference as they are both to be cut for the wider flangeway requirement.
Cheers

UPDATE: These are some of the Princess-specific detail parts I picked up today. I've approached someone with the relevant expertise to assess whether he can produce a pack of resin detailing mouldings in order to help people finish off Mike Edge's beautiful and substantial etch sheet.
You may notice components for the combustion chamber firebox and boiler / firebox join. These are optional, but are meant to offer a sort of "get out of jail" alternative to those who would prefer not to have to form their own firebox from sheet nickel or brass.....
Hi did the mouldings for these components ever come to fruition? Just going through Mikes revised etches and building up a parts list for everything and have come across the same problems of availability.
