  1. Today it’s been priming the big Heljan engine sheds amongst other stuff.

I’m not the worlds best building kits as I never read the instructions, so I should have left out the glazing instead of masking it.

These sheds are based on Shirebrook I believe and will form the basis of a much larger fictional depot in this area of the layout

It was "common as muck" to the Sands Lane spotter crew! Foind a nice photo on Flickr of B& O at HLJ.

    Jubilee 45581 Bihar and Orissa

    Nice pic thanks

You can see the bridge in the background taking the line from the dive under tunnels on a direct route to Leeds. All gone now of course and the first mile or so of that line realigned to form HLJ

  3. My evening look have looked like this for weeks. Cleaning/oiling coaches and adding corridor connections.

As I previously mentioned I’ve repainted a rake of TTA Shell liveried tanks into BP & ICI colours.

Didn't even bother masking them or even sand them down. Transfers and all they’ve had the Halfords Primer spray can treatment then straight into green and yellow.
From a distance they look pretty good!

4.30pm past Mirfield! We used to run up to Ravensthorpe and Thornhill after school to see it.The "half four dub", .. Then trudge home disappointed as it was "Bihar & Orissa" and a Brit.. Again!

Bihar & Orissa was a Farnley engine I think. It must have travelled through HLJ thousands of times. Sadly I don’t remember it

Simon have you thought about a track cleaning wagon may help with build up of detritus on wheels

No track wagons - even the heavy brass one CMX manufacturer (that cost £200) get the tarnish off the rails.

Also the sheer distance they cover means the material that touches the rail heads gets gunked up after one circuit.
I use the LGB track rubbers as they are just the right size for O gauge and don’t fall apart

If the cars on the cartics are newcones on delivery they wouldn't have VEL's as they would only getvtheir reg numbets allocated when they were bought from a showroom.  Delivery drivers would use trade plates.

They aren’t new Jamie they are all ages and quite grubby some of them

  8. A day of working on wagons ..

I wanted to cover with a ‘tarpaulin’ around five of the 14 huge steel carrying Cargowaggens that are pulled by 2 x 37’s.

It’s really easy making tarpaulins for loads. Just need some toilet paper, drape it dry over the load then paint on a 50/50 mix of diluted PVA.
Once this is dry you can paint it black/blue or any realistic tarpaulin colour.

The one I’m doing here should be dry by the morning and it’ll get a coat of Tamiya dark blue.
I’ll post the finished article later this week but once it’s painted just requires the miniature chains thrown over it.

The previously weathered HUO hoppers are getting their lead weights hot glued in situ before a false floor made from foam board is fitted on top.
I’ve ordered another cheap blender to crush some coal to sieve over the top. Must be on the fourth one now!
