  1. It's what you'd expect with trying to squeeze more and more out of the sport.

23 races is more than half the weekends off the year, and it's not like they're kicking back and doing nothing much for the rest of the time. There is a limit to how much you can push humans before quality drops off a cliff, and I can't imagine they're far from the limit already.

  2. Don't the logging locos have offset boilers to make space for the engine section? Not having longwise symmetry like that isn't going to help the weight distribution; I imagine they got away with it on the logging lines because speeds and associated test forces were low.

so the engine part would probably need to be mounted in the same place as on a Stephenson pattern loco, in which case there would need to be a compelling advantage to a gearbox transmission compared to a simple bar to a cranked axle arrangement.

  3. But what possible purpose would forcing Lewis out serve? He's an all time great of the sport, and the whole thing will be diminished when he does eventually hang it up. Who benefits if he quits?

  4. I know what happened.

The point is that for it to be a conspiracy then Latifi would have had to be in on it. And I don't believe for a minute that he would have been. If he hadn't crashed then none of the rest would have happened.

Coincidentally, both Latifi and Hamilton have one white and one non-white parent, which IMO makes it even more unlikely that he'd be involved in a racist conspiracy against Hamilton.

The most likely explanation to me is that Masi played fast and loose with the rules in order to have a racing finish to the closest season in ages, rather than a safety car procession. Cock up, not conspiracy.

So Tehran is maybe where "black" folk come from. Pushing the boundaries mate with your argument imho.

I didn't say that, I said that he's not white because his father was born Iranian (though I think he now has Canadian nationality).

But the point was actually that what happened the other day was a result of a bunch of things, which all started with Latifi crashing, which makes it unlikely to be any kind of conspiracy as he would have had to do it deliberately.

Only Hamilton? or has MV and RB been forgiven?

What have they done that hasn't already been dealt with and closed?

AFAIK the only thing that LH & MB have done that isn't closed is the ceremony thing.

That's pretty inflamatory language he's using there, but we'll see what they actually do.

  7. Over reaction much? Masi seems to have applied the rules incorrectly in order to have an exciting race to the finish rather than a dull safety car procession. He was only able to make that mistake because Latifi crashed. Who I somewhat doubt is in on a conspiracy to make the grid a whites only zone. Particularly since Latifi's father was born Mehrdad Latifi in Tehran, so he's no whiter than Lewis.

  8. I was rooting for Max last year because I don't like hyper dominance, and I wanted Honda to get a reward after their struggles when they re-entered (a story which has sadly got lost in all the furore)... This is a very pro-hamilton arena though.

Agreed.....   it may even survive the barrage of other comments from here, too.....      :swoon:

I think the opinions of a bunch of (mostly) Hamilton supporting railway modellers will be at the forefront of the new guys decision making process.

  10. I don't think the FIA would be doing itself any favours in throwing the book at Lewis or Mercedes for skipping the ceremony, but the rules surrounding that are black and white. LH and MB wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

Maybe it's all part of their plan - to create an "us against the world" siege mentality...

  11. I don't know about that. What I can say with some confidence is that the electrification on the routes that 373s used is capable of supplying a 92 on DC. The Tonbridge to Redhill scheme was built to allow 92s as well (I believe RfD paid for it because NSE claimed they'd carry on using thumpers), but for Redhill to Clapham they built but didn't commission the substations, so the trains would have got stuck at Redhill. (The substations were brought into service for the slam door replacement project).

Signalling and the like... No idea.

Although not a fan of Max's arrogance, nor his teams I do have a degree of sympathy for him. The title fiasco was nothing to to with him and despite now being world champion he will know in the history books it will always have an asterisk beside it saying see entry for Michael Masi.

It'll make his first title remarkable for sure.

Like how Lewis win his first with a last corner overtake of Glock who was on the wrong tyres (and wasn't Massa the "champion" for about 30 seconds until Lewis completed the race where he needed to).

I'm not drawing a false equivalence there or suggesting that rules weren't properly applied in 2008, but there is some symmetry at least!
