  1. The last couple of locos I bought were diesel, but it looks like I’ll be running more steam eventually. It just seems to be heading that way. A few more bits to do, the shed at front left is still not compete, maybe a bit of loading to be done at front with a bit of open shelter, nothing too heavy though. The loading platform has been fully assembled and painted, all the goods need to be painted up, might stick them together in groups so that it will be easy to change over and place on wagons. Small stuff though, better keep going...black and white today. Thanks for looking.
  2. Well, work got the better of me, but I was determined to get somewhere so 30 minutes on Tuesday to build the crane (what a great kit), sprayed it Wednesday morning before work, finished first swipes at weathering last night. Looks like it could be a derelict, so maybe using some ratio ‘halt’ platforms perhaps as a newer drop off point. Lets me make the ground between crane and bridge waste ground, so maybe some abandoned rails and other rubbish. Letting it settle for a day or two now to see how it looks later. Built up a hoist for the coal yard, just waiting for it to dry before finishing. Better get that factory finished... Thanks for looking.
  3. Thinking about things a couple if days ago to possibly move the crane platform from the right hand end to the left. Finally got around to it today and replaced it with coal staithes, which makes better sense as it had been looking like that area needed a function anyway. The crane platform does the job, now just need to fit a crane. While I was at it, one of the buffer stops was loose, and took the opportunity to move it forward 2”. Adds a bit more of a busy feel somehow. Factory not moved on anymore yet, but I’m pleased with the area now as a whole. Things will slow down a bit now as the holiday is over, but I’m aiming for 30 minutes a day for the sake of sanity! Coal staithes Crane platform Repositioned buffers Thanks for looking.
  4. If it could go wrong today, it did. Straight edges were easy, corners were another matter, 50% of what I cut were wrong, then the replacements were also reversed, so I had to have a third go. The inclines were just as bad. At least the side door went to plan. On to the greebles now... Glad today is over... Thanks for looking.
  5. Tiles done via scalescenes, lacking some lead work, capping stones for edges in progress, extra roof support needed and then its the extras. Thanks for looking.
  6. Working on the roof while waiting for windows to dry and struggling with a couple of options. First up was the position of the long roof. I could place the apex at the same position of the backscene, which was the original intention, then had the idea of moving it forward slightly. This will hide the join with the backscene as it will appear that the the roof slopes away and the apex will be higher, does give slight issues with the intersection of the roof at right angles but I can live with that. While messing with that, I saw a couple of the retaining wall supports and thought about combining them in as chimneys, making the warehouse more of a factory. Does have the benefit of hiding the corner of the backscene. The mock up is shown, undecided on this, one for tomorrow. Overview Looks like the factory is supporting the backscene! Thanks for looking.
  7. Thanks to everyone that’s taken time to look at this and click, it’s really helped me push on. Worked on covering the exposed edges today, managed to overlay parallel lines behind the texture before printing which gave me a score line and 2 cut lines to work to, scored with a cocktail stick before folding and cutting from the page. Added a bit of powder to add depth. Still got the last panel to do, more windows needed, finish the interior as much as it is, then downpipes and roof. Bit behind schedule but never mind. Thanks again for looking.
  8. Main door just finished. Looking at what to do with the windows to make it look less derelict. Updated after tea, added rail for door, printed a strip of random photos and mounted inside first floor to break up the bleakness inside. Thanks for looking.
  9. Thanks for the kind comments, glad you like it.
  10. I like to make look functional if possible, so I’ve added a door for vehicle access in a suitable place. Some examples show a sliding panel in front of windows, so I’m going for that. Most of the windows are now in place and all but the roof levels are glues in place. End panel tomorrow, sliding door, roof and corners to cover yet followed by down pipes and details. Thanks for looking
  11. Warehouse coming along, ran out of windows so time for a break. No major calamities today, most parts were reusable though I had to go to the reserve for a couple of parts. One panel is temporarily in the wrong place, it should be at the end and a door panel needs to be put in. New quoins need to be cut, getting straight edges along with a straight fold for such narrow pieces is a morning job. Thanks for looking.
  12. Doors now complete Back to the windows, Thanks for looking.
  13. Day out yesterday, did manage a bit of time on Pickering station (NYMR) yesterday and picked up some back issues of Hornsby magazine that contained scalescenes buildings. I like scalescenes, but cutting out the windows is a killer for me, but the textures are worthwhile investments for adapting and additions. The doors are a write off, so I’m putting in some new old ones. Turned the strip over and added some corrugated sheet and wood clapboard. Checked how the floors fit and they seem fine so far. Had to scavenge some ‘glass’ from several unused rolling stock boxes, gave them a spray with Matt varnish to dirty them up a bit. Hoping to have the walls up by the end of the weekend leaving the roof to do. I knew O-level engineering drawing would come in handy one day, calculating true lengths for the intersecting rooves has never been so useful. Thanks for looking.
  14. Rather than just join the existing parts of the warehouse together, I’ve cut out the floor plan out 4 times from mounting board. Hopefully the walls can be assembled onto them. Thanks for looking.
  15. Well, had a bit of a shift around with the warehouse to add a bit of ‘weight’ further to the left, started to take some of the warehouse apart to rearrange and improve it a bit. Makes you realise how bad some glue is, spray mount is great for getting an even join, but after a while really loses its stick. This section was a spare from earlier and used as a test bed. Windows and frames were removed and the frames sprayed with an off white to tone down, I’d made the replacement frames some time ago, they were sprayed green when that was an idea, but over sprayed with the same white today in an uneven coat to give some texture. Humbrol weathering powder was applied over the printed sills before new sills were glued over to give a deep shadow. I used a suitable shade of coloured pencil on the inside of the wall aperture to hide the card edge, then reassembled after fixing with hairspray. Next up...disassembly of this block and possible addition of a door, fitting lots of windows, making card floors, then lots of trial and error to get the roof to meet in all the right places. If I choose to add some lights, better do this before final assembly unlike the other buildings. Thanks for looking.
  16. Set a target of getting this finished before the end of the holiday, given that is three weeks away this could be a bit optimistic but you never know... Wasn’t happy with the way Farend was taking shape (there is still no name for this), for the past few days I’ve been positioning various collected bits, leaving it, then looking at it the next day. Today when I sat down I didn’t want to move anything so this is the plan. The peco depot along the front edge has probably been one of the longest inhabitants of the stock, so I guess I feel I need to use at least some of it. The roof looked chunky to me, so I dug out some vac formed panels of corrugated I picked up from a local department store, for some reason they started stocking some ‘different’ supplies, mig powders, vacuum-formed brick sheets etc, so I picked some up...finally came in useful. Other work recently was to improve the front edge, with a bit of sanding and painting a familiar shade of green, though looking at this photo it looks like the glasspaper was only shown to the board, and to drill the control panel ready for fitting seeing as though I forgot to choose the correct colour for cutting and engraved them at the time. Must also get rid of the c**p underneath and finish the wiring... Thanks for looking.
  17. Really well observed, great job!
  18. The retaining wall is finished bar a few capping stones... ...but it is 2in short of the bridge at the near end. Will need to put in a plain section and hide it behind some trees. There is a patch of waste ground there already. Thanks for looking.
  19. Despite having no problems with my spray glue before, today it just wasn’t up to the job and the printed paper simply peeled off the card after an hour or so. Nothing worse than trying to squeeze glue in without a trace. Finished 4 retaining walls, 4 more to go. Been working on the workshop, windows and edging stones now on. Remembered to paint the inside for the lighting this time, doors have been made and are drying before fitting. Not entirely happy with the over door window but needed to adapt what I had in the pile. I can always turn it around, I doubt anyone would have noticed the door facing the track and backscene if I hadn’t have mentioned it. Took this picture this afternoon and it just doesn’t look right now either! Maybe a full height, wider wooden door will suit. Thanks for looking.
  20. Thank you both, I will try the wash. Thanks again. Charlie
  21. I’m done here, I’ll be finishing the goods crane when I begin work on the overhead at the far end. Seems to make sense so they can be finished at the same time. The veg weren’t the easiest to dress up, but they do the job. I cut a couple of them up so they could be used in different ways. These still look a little card like, from a distance their okay, but I might get a paintbrush out to blend them in a bit. Not today though. Thanks for looking.
  22. Got to give this time to settle in now. The greenhouse was touch and go for a while, particularly while looking at it in situ and thinking that the back face ‘glass’ was so clear it looked like I’d missed it out...given that it was all planted, I had a few choice words. It’s missing some planting and general detritus, good news though, the pigs got a trough of feed today. Thanks for looking.
  23. Started to work for a few minutes and spent an hour on the allotment, fitted light into the factory. More difficult than I thought, going to make up some frames tomorrow and a greenhouse. Had to coax a pig down from a tree for this photo. Strange how they get about when I’m not looking.... Just holding off doing the brewery I suppose. Better keep going... Thanks for looking.
  24. Managed to get the leds I was after, 8mm warm white. Must remember to paint the insides of the buildings black before assembling from now on if they’re to be lit. Will mount switches along the front panel for individual control of each building. Looks like they need a draught excluder in the office. Thanks for looking.
