After 18 months of so I have finally reached the point of being able to operate my layout - although putting together buildings has now taken a back seat as I cant help having a quick shunting session!
I built my layout with Kadee couplings in mind - so I installed a few electro magnet and under the ties magnet uncouplers as I was doing track laying. I have already experienced the frustrations of coupling 'droop' with some locos and freight stock. My passenger stock is a mix of Hornby Staniers, Colletts and Hawksworths. All pretty straightforward fitting them with Kadee
I have a few Bachmann Colletts and I am not sure how best to convert them. So far I have tried drilling a hole in the Kadee and screwing it in in place of the tension lock on the bogie. Had to use Kadee 20s because I have a Setrack Radius 3 entrance to my fiddle yard, and the 19s risked buffer lock with other stock. They seem to work reasonably well with the one coach I have converted (ran out of Kadees before attempting the rest!). However does anyone have any other/better ideas?
