Thank you both very much for the information. It was thge second time the Vectron had turned up recently. I worked out that Platform/Gleis 7 was "missing" from the DB arrivals and departures web page <http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/bhftafel.exe/dn>.. 1 & 2 (on the left) are used principally by the Munich - Passsau RE service; 3 & 4 are used by the ICE services to/from Vienna and an odd IC service to Passau at 22.09, and by some of the Munich - Passau services mostly in the odd numbered hours; 5 is used by the Deggendorf and Bayerisch Eisenstein branch trains (DMUs); 6 is not often used; 7 has apparently gone AWOL and 8 is for the Regensburg - Neumarkt (Oberpf) stopping service. The DB arrivals etc web page calls 8 "8th" for some reason.

Does anyone know what is the white loco that has been in the tank sidings to the right of the picture, please? eg <http://webcam.deg.net/?a=showcam&w=showarchivimage&o=pla&id=201602291500> There has also been a main line passenger coach in the siding at the end of platforms 2 and 3 for some reason. While I am asking questions about Plattling, there does not seem to be a platform 7 for some reason. The platform used by the local trains to Regensburg is apparently 8: the one not normally used is 6 and the Deggendorf diesel service goes from 5.

While I was posting the above, one departed!

At present there are three (possibly four) eastbound freight trains in the loops at Plattling. They have been there for at least an hour, although other freight trains have passed through the station. John 17.58 2 Aug 2015.

A rather curios vehicle has arrived i the siding between platforms 2 and 3 at Plattling. Presumably it is some sort of engineer's vehicle? It is in the Archive photos from 06.30 this morning.
