  1. I have both an Alice and Nesta and have had the opportunity to test the for the first time today.

Both have been run in on a rolling road for the recommended 30 -45 minutes and a bit more , however, both are slow to start or need a nudge when they do at slow  to medium speed they both 'pulsate' or jerky along the track (like there isn't sufficient enough power to turn the flywheel) turning up the power up  they run quite smoothly but too fast!

I'm using a cheapo Hornby controller, before I return them could controller  be the issue or is further running in required or return them?

It just seems strange they both react the same way at the slower speed but ok at a higher non-realistic speed

  2. I am thinking of purchasing an un-numbered version to re-number as 4539 which seems to have ended its days at Reading shed which suits my purposes for location could anyone advise what its final livery might have been, I have found a couple of B&W photos but they are of no use.

    Many thanks

These are @railtec-modelsSteve's standard size DMU/EMU destination names.

The brown strips are not flush but the frame of the box with a window in for the blind, so i made them from styrene judging the size from the head on photo i posted when we discussed this a few pages back.

I slightly chamfered them and instead of applying the decal to something, just cut round it so i can slide them in and out for a different name (you get 5 in a set anyway).

Edit: the prismatic glazing really needs to go though!

Thank you for the helpful advice.

One additional question has anyone populated theirs with passengers and do you have to trim legs off to get them to fit?

Modelu do them for the Dapol 121/122 with cut legs but was wondering if they were more relevant to the OO version rather than the O gauge version

  4. Class 121 Headcode and destination blinds

    Hi

I have ordered some custom DMU head codes and destination blinds from Steve at Railtec, who has come back with some questions which I hope you can assist in answering.

    Headcode dimensions

    a) He has asked for dimensions - I measured the head code glazing at 24 x 8mm would others agree?

    Destination blinds

    b) The Dapol destination blinds are the incorrect size , I measured the width of the centre window at 14mm, what would the height of the blind be?

I asked Steve about the WR brown horizontal stripes which he may include if cost effective. He has asked for a photo, but has anyone made their own either with the stripes or without?

Could you advise the dimensions of the individual stripes either all three or just the black one.

    Installation

    c) Having taken the body off it looks a bit daunting getting into the cab area so have you fitted the headcodes and destination blinds on the front 'face on' of the glazing or behind the glazing 'in reverse'

Many thanks in anticipation of your advice

I received another update from Kevin today

    Hello

Just to let you know they are still working on it.   They have evidently made improvements but want to refine it further.

    kind regards

    Kevin

Not surprisingly Dapol have not come up with a solution to the whiskers, apparently they will make sure they are correct on the next batch whenever that may be.

Has anyone changed theirs using Fox or equivalent transfers, how easy was it, what did you use to remove the printing etc (unable to use the correct term as the spell checker changes it to a feminine product !!)

I found T Cut difficult on Dapol printing so was wondering if there is an alternative?

    Many thanks

  6. I am building an Intentio 7mm GWR weighbridge office kit and I would like to detail it internally, I guess there would be a desk and chair as well as maybe a filling cabinet but I am unable to find any pictures or details equipment in relation to the weighbridge itself, does anybody have any they could share or direct me to some on the web?

    many thanks

    Have you had a reply?

I’ve ordered a sound-fitted 121 with speed whiskers, so I spoke to the folks on the Dapol stand at the GOG exhibition yesterday and they were very non-committal regarding a fix.

    Didn’t sound promising.

I contacted them again on Saturday and had a reply this morning.

    Hello Mark

    Sorry but no feedback yet.

  9. Canns Model of Okehampton – Caveat Emptor!!

I came across this vendor on line and all looked to be in order and so I ordered a Heljan GUV from their website on the 9th June 2021, it showed it was in stock at the time of placement of the order and after placing the order took it out of stock.

Their website states the following for orders and postage

We always endeavour to provide the quickest and best service possible. Standard delivery can take 2-3 working days to arrive after the date of dispatch. We cannot guarantee that all 24 hour deliveries will arrive the following day.

Orders are shipped in order that they arrive in. Usually parcels are dispatched 24-48 from the time of the order but can take 24 hours longer at busier periods such as Christmas.

All parcels will be Tracked or Sign For, this is the safest way for both us and you the customer.

I emailed for an update for my order on 14th and 17th June as I hadn’t received it without any response from them other than an automated email saying the order had been received and was being processed.

I also, called them on16th June it went to voicemail and every time, no-one has returned my calls.

Eventually, on 18th June I received the following email from them

    Good afternoon

We apologise for the delay in responding and sending your order. We unfortunately had issues with our broadband as the water company decided to dig it up.

I'm hoping parcelforce will still come today to collect and if so, you will receive a dispatch email with the tracking number.

Again we apologise for the delay.

    Kind regards,

    Kelly

     (sic)

OK, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and said no problem these things happen and I looked forward to receiving my order.

So, time went by and still nothing received, further emails and unanswered calls in between and then on the 30th June I received an automated email saying that they had processed the order and it was complete. I emailed them to ask if it meant it was on its way and I  got the following email from them on 1st July

    Hello Mark

Were incredibly sorry for the delay in getting back to you as well as shipping your order. BT have now fixed all of the problems and we should no longer experience any issues.

Your parcel was collected today by Parcelforce. We will send the tracking number in due course.

I will also get back to you will a little compensation for the delays.

    Kind regards Kelly

I emailed again on Monday 12th July to request a refund, no response, no delivery, no refund.

So I logged a complaint with my credit car company and received a full refund.

Mine has been delivered today and looking at the photo I'm wondering whether to bother even opening it or to send it straight back and exchange for a yellow panel, it looks so wrong without the whiskers meeting in the middle, as mentioned how could they get it right for the oo version and so wrong for o gauge?

In the end I decided to keep mine, however, I did email Dapol and they replied today saying that they are aware of the of the issue with the whiskers  and that a resolution to the problem is under discussion and that they would contact me when a decision had been made.
