  1. Hi Tony.

I have several Comet chassis locos awaiting finishing. All are good runners, EM gauge, solid chassis, Markits wheels apart from the 4f which is Brassmasters chassis and Ultrascales.

The jinties and J39 have Portescaps, all need sandboxes and sandpipes to complete. I also have a comet standard 4 mogul, standard 5 and crab in similar condition. Ive tried your nickel silver pickups and im impressed with them.

Ill paint these when the weather is warmer.

My question is regarding sandboxes. What do you do?  I always wondered why Comet didnt include them.

  2. Ive recently had planning permission granted for a new garage to replace an older and smaller one in front of my house. Its closer to the roadside and also to the house, and to make it fit the rear corner is in front of the house line which is where I needed permission.

I want this as a railway room and also so that it could be used as a garage for a car if needed, also the garage door would be needed as the layout when dismantled goes on trolleys which can be wheeled straight out the garage door onto a van with tail lift.

Basically a granny room with a garage door.

Whats bugging me is the security, Even though its a quiet close Im still not 100% sure id like all of my stuff at the front of the house, for some reason the rear of the house feels more secure. Although this isnt an option.

And also the garage door itself. I want the building to be as warm and insulated as possible, im considering heated flooring as radiators would be in the way of the layout. The achilles heel seems to be the main door, also I need it to take up the least depth as possible to maximise the internal space.

At the moment I cant decide weather it is worth going ahead or even to move property to somewhere which has larger space for a rear of the house building. Parking of cars in front of the house is starting to feel an issue so I may pave the garden, but then I think the garden being paved with a garage next to and no garden walls may look odd?

  3. Anyone remember a comedy sketch, I think it was Benny hill, with a level crossing where the man parks his car with mother in law in on the crossing, runs off, then there was a library shot of a blue intercity 125 approaching, you hear the crash, he opens his eyes and looks back to see the car in perfect condition and the wife or mother in law getting out but with the 2 coaches of the train placed on top of the train.
I dont know who did the sketch, Im guessing it was Benny hill, it was late 80s early 90s, I know its not very tasteful, it must have taken a bit of time and money to set up, maybe on a preserved line, but its stuck in my mind all this time.

I'm not certain. But could it have been The Borrowers. The BBC TV series rather than the film.

I have very vague recollection that the tiny people went on to a model railway and the "normal sized" person was wondering what was wrong with his "toy train".

They are all on youtube and ive been flicking through them to find it. Nothing has come up but It definately has the feel of what I rememember. Although ive got a feeling this was more of a lower budget CITV programme.

  5. Im trying to recall something which I am reminded of every time I see those videos filmed from the front of a Lego train going around a garden or floor.

    1980s.

Had that similar fast sharp curves feel to it.

may have been a sort of ghost train but more akin to a sort of indoor rollercoaster.

I can't recall if it was a music video,  intro to a kids tv show or what but its something I can remember from childhood and its bugged me for a long time.
