60095 isn't completely error free though, the three overhead line flashes on the single grille side are all printed too high. Should be beneath the orange band not on it. Its right on the two grille side

I was wondering what the chances of the stored Class 58’s in Alizay, Fr ever will return to the UK for further use.
Given they've had the copper cabling robbed from them, unlikely.

Unfortunately cant find any info on what the removed cabinet on the underframe could be.
The missing cabinet is the transformer and rectifier for the ETS. Looking at Flickr, its been absent for a few months.

With Andy's kind permission, a plug for my latest 116-page bookazine, this one covering parcels and mail trains from the 1960s through to the Railnet era. Presentation is in the same style as the previous wagon ones and covers the more common pre-nationalisation designs along with Mk.1 stock and the developments and conversions during the corporate, sector and privatisation eras. Also covers newspaper and bullion trains along with Travelling Post Offices.
There's the usual variety of modelling projects throughout, mostly in 4mm, with contributors including Terry Bendall, Karl Crowther, Tim Easter, Grahame Hedges, Mark Lambert, Alan Monk and Jim Smith-Wright with Trevor Mann, David Ratcliffe and James Skoyles contributing on the prototype side. Release date is this Thursday (4th) with the usual stockists of Smiths, other newsagents and selected supermarkets. It will also be available from the Key Publishing website at https://shop.keypublishing.com/product/View/productCode/SPECMODBR/Modelling British Railways

The orange cantrail isn't straight from bodyside to cab front, it doesnt go in-between headlight and destination blind, it dips between the blind and drivers window.
The orange cantrail was moved before the sets entered passenger service, that on the model correctly goes above the destination display not below it as it portrays an in service set.

Was the DMU trailer a class 103 under TOPS?
It was an ex Class 100 DTCL. Worsley Works lists etches for the sides and ends in 4mm.

IIRC, they were moved unfitted between two 66s as many of the transfers to the GWS centre are.

They were being used for filming in the GWS centre, delivered by road to the DB depot and then tripped over. Think most were from the Nene Valley and all gone back now.

1998 was the bulk of the crossover. Think some were repainted very late 1997.
First JHAs were repainted April 1998, same time as 59005.

No idea what the small black rectangles on the lower bodyside are.
I suspect they are identification plates for valves and taps on the underframe before stickers began to be used. They are clearly visible in photos eg http://www.flickr.com/photos/locohunter/50828806396 but none are close enough to be readable.

In fact, while typing this I thought to check the Bachmann website and it clearly states "Rotating radiator fans, driven by an independent motor and gearbox, operated via a DCC function, or randomised when operated as part of the sound project on DCC and Analogue control (SOUND FITTED DELUXE models only)"
Indeed, the fans, motor and drive train are a separate module that connects to the main PCB.

- Is provision EM/P4 wheelsets being considered?
- What are the specs of the speakers? Will an EM2 speaker fit?
Guy, there's space between the sideframes for conversion, brake shoes may need adjusting. Speakers as fitted are one sugar cube and one 28mm diameter round.

I take it the cab side stripes were unique to RTC locos?
Yes, the red chevron stripe was the RTC variant of the yellow one applied to Civil Engineers' locos.

I've previously highlighted the pocket wagons that carried Blue Circle HGV trailers, but apparently they also carried Milk tankers!
These are different wagons, originally used for Pedigree petfoord traffic from Melton Mowbray. DRS used some for a month-long milk trial but only one was loaded. Charterail

I can't work out if this is just being unloaded or if it's being used as temporary storage silo?
It was a long-term static store.

For those awaiting its arrival in the shops, this should now be happening as it was in my local Smiths this morning.
As the Project Mercury section has gone down well, here's a photo that didn't make it in - 31519 passing Warrington in 1991 with a cable laying train. This features one of the Mk.1 staff and generator coaches along with five converted Bogie Bolster C. Three of these are in Mercury blue without safety canopies and two are in olive green with canopies.

The first train is currently testing on the Severn Valley, having arrived from Derby ten days ago. It uses three 60ft KFAs (VTG95378-80) with modules on top. Couple of decent vids on YT

Property of the GW society. Used to deliver locomotive coal to the Didcot rail centre.
Not anymore, they were replaced by three OBAs a few years ago, went for scrap IIRC.

Can anyone identify this train at 2 mins30?

Not GWR 387s, they're South Eastern 375s - distinct lack of knitting and have the thick yellow and red cantrail stripes.
