  1. Ooooh! I am looking forward to this.

I will take a Foster Yeoman, National Power and a DB Schenker one please as I have been after a new model of a Class 59 for ages.

  2. I like the look of the Class 73 model for detail as it looks okay to me. But could someone please kindly advise me of the performance of this model in terms of the smoothness and running? As I am considering getting the Intercity looking one with the BR logo on the sides to go with my sole southern Class 419 MLV unit as its a bit lonely on its own ;). I had a positive experience with the Class 52 Western as it was a nice runner but I sold it because of a problem with the paint peeling off :(.

  3. I opened up my 60090 today and I can confirm that you get one plough of each instead of two like you used to get in the oldern days when the customer mattered more. Also it seems these days that Hornby are no longer bothering to paint the brakepipes or they do a half finished job. Seriously if I wanted unpainted parts, I would buy a Revell kit and paint it myself. Surely paint isn't that expensive :/.

Here is the proof of why I am getting a bit cheesed off with their poor workmanship :(.

Although atleast 60005 has painted buffers. On the other hand though, 60090 does not and there is no painted footsteps either for that matter. It seems like Hornby have dropped their standards on the 2015 models I have bought because the Colas Rail Class 56 didn't have any painted brake pipes either. I wouldn't call £135 for a model locomotive cheap. There won't be a third Hornby model locomotive with sloppy workmanship like this in my fleet. So I hope that Hornby will get on top of the problem if they wish to see another penny from me in the future :/

  4. Just a question folks about the packaging of these Class 60's. Are these Heljan Class 60's postal-proof (i.e: would they survive the trip without getting busted?)? Or would it be better and safer to pick one up in person? I have probably just made a jerk of myself asking this but I remember the horrors of reassembling the old Lima Class 67's as some of the models fell to bits inside unfortunately :(. So I want to play it safe.

  5.

Well, never mind the black marks, I thought I had been lucky and escaped the body damage. Upon opening this one, unfortunately not. You need to sort your packaging out pronto Heljan.

The first 2 being inspected for sound installation. I actually like the new light board, no resistors to solder in now, a quick swap of some terminals and they are in! Still all of the usual wire trimming, soldering, and alterations for the actual chip though.

Its a shame that a model locomotive of that price turns up busted due to poor packaging. I was looking forward to getting one of these in December as well as a Xmas pressie to myself. Shame really as the models that are nearly £500 a shot have poor packaging :(.

  6. Hi,

I am sure Bachmann will deliver the goods once they have passed their rigorous routine of quality control. Delays can happen for a host of reasons including one major bees sting is licensing and copyright that can hold things up and sometimes can lead to products getting withdrawn. I am personally looking forward to the Bachmann Class 37 in the Colas Rail livery that should be due in the winter. I really do like the livery to be honest and the second model I am seeking is the Class 158 unit in East Midlands Trains as its present time era and I like the livery a lot too :). Oh and the Class 90, whilst I have a keen eye on this locomotive. I think its going to be a while before we see the model and it will give me some time to get some spare money together and pick one up. I am interested in the RFD livery and the Intercity one as well but I might get the Freightliner one to add to my modern E10 present day fleet. Besides the Intercity Class 90 will go nicely with the matching Hornby Mk3 DVT/DLV that's been kicking around on eBay on and off that was out in 2011/2 if my memory serves me rightly ;).

  7. I would like a Cl;ass 91 model in the original Intercity livery as I grew up with them in this style and I would have one for nostalgia reasons. It is a viable model but I think that Hornby could do this model in both forms as a standalone model to run with a Buffered HST power car and Mk3's like it was in 1988 before the Mk4's were delivered as well as this would allow for Limited Edition runs (like the NRM model in the ECT/BoB livery for example), Also a Class 91 and DVT Pack for the post-1988 sets as then you would have a nicely made pack with a super detailed Mk4 DVT to match. The Mk4's are still fairly good models to this day and perhaps the only upgrade needed on these would be interior lighting like Hornby has introduced to some of the Mk2/3 coaches. So I am in favour of a new Class 91 locomotive. Also Hornby has the new style packaging for the Class 91, so perhaps if the new model is exactly the same length and height etc. It may well fit without the need to redesign the blister packaging? But personally I would get the Intercity version to add to my collection for remembering the good times of my life :).
