  1. How about inverlochy? It has its own set of sidings, at least. It has a ring of anywhere-north-of-perth about it, yet is a genuine place immediately outside Ft William itself. Fort William isnt that unpopular, at least not in the area. I have to say nobody of my aquaintance has objected to the name, just as Fr George and Ft Augustus ( named for George Augustus, elector of Hanover and King of the UK) are allowed their names without objection fromthe locals.
  2. From what I know of Irish, its probably pronounced 'chicken'. Its certainly not phonetic - perhaps, given the English pronunciation of garrison, it would be pronounced " an gerrisen".?
  3. I have never been there, but it looks to me as though the sloped roof is set back from the 'turret' wall by nearly the width of the line? If you could find a reverse angle of that photo, that might be revealing. For myself, what I like about the three Highland lines, is that they are mostly single track. It allows for a smaller space to be dominated by scenery, than a double or treble line such as we would find elsewhere.
  4. Love the video clip of the LMS10000. Thank you for that. Completely off topic I know, but can anyone say if there was a matching (special) livery for the coaches to go with the black and chrome for the engine?
  5. I have recently been looking at diesel designs from the later part of the period, and concentrating on UK origins. Its very enlightening how many companies were exporting diesel locos or substantial parts for them, in the 30's and onwards. I've found references on the derbysulzers.com site to Egypt, India, and Brazil. There were also a variety of designs on the drawing board for the prenationalisation rail companies. (And in operation.) I would love to see someone build a selection of these designs as models!
