  1. Thank you so much for your help, Jon!

I've taken a look at the 5 diagram books on the website, and they have absolutely no description of their contents! If anyone here knows which of the books, other than Volume 2, have the "Elliptical" stock, then that would be much appreciated! It would save me a bit of money instead of buying all of them to check for a few things.

Also, does the "NER Passenger Train Rolling Stock as at December 31st 1906 (numerical listing)" actually have any diagrams? I'm not sure what the contents of that is either.

    Cheers,

    Julien.

  2. Mr. Stanger, the man who runs 52F Models, is an incredibly kind chap! He also has an incredibly revolutionary instruction system, which is a thick booklet accompanied with coloured CAD drawings on how to assemble the kit (very similar to an IKEA build!). It makes it incredibly easy to construct kits as you have MANY visual references that are of different angles and colour-coded. He also gives much consideration to make it easier for the modeller, which is why all the parts that are curved or rolled are done beforehand by him, so it's mainly a matter of assembly at that point for you. I HIGHLY recommend that you give it a try if you're interested in the N.E.R. 'T1'! His kits are truly like no other...

Here's a photo of my instructions for the L.N.E.R. 'A8': (images have been very compressed, but they give you the general idea)8693A4DA-409A-423B-8B28-17A2253CEB6A_4_5005_c.jpeg.498669cfb4a48fa99bc4ce7ceda5c7fd.jpegA5E1DF16-B798-4D44-9262-73CFF1CF309A_1_201_a.jpeg.2c2d01835e7c59303bea068849f995c3.jpeg

  3. Thank you very much!

While I am waiting for the books to arrive, I checked in with the N.E.R.S., and Mr. Colin Knapp said "[he knows] we have very little if anything useful [on the clerestory electrics]." The N.R.M. also likely does not have much, as I could only find a list of their components from the N.E.R. but not contents within that.

Are there any other archives that could have diagrams of them? I know that a copy of The Engineer has one, but that's all I have heard.

    Cheers,

    Julien.

  4. Hello everyone!

I am currently in the process of researching the N.E.R. Tyneside clerestory electrics so that I may build a rake of them (either 3D printed or brass etched), but I am having some great difficulties locating any reference material.

Because I am in the States, it's difficult for me to schedule visits to archives, so that limits my scope of research. The internet does not have many photos or drawings of them, and a lot of the pictures and links posted here no longer work. If anyone has references they are able to share (i.e. diagrams, component drawings, photos, even videos if possible!), please feel free to add them to the thread.

    Cheers,
    Julien.

  5. Hello everyone!

I am currently trying to construct my own Oerlikon, but I'm struggling to find good references to make it accurate. Since I live in the States and do not have many opportunities to visit the National Railway Museum or the Metro-Cammell collection, if anyone would be so kind as to share official drawings, diagrams, and internal views for the Oerlikon, that would be much appreciated!  John Redrup, the owner of London Road Models, also says that he is struggling with finding good references for the cab of the Oerlikon, so if anyone here has photos or drawings of those, it would help him as well in making his kit.

    Cheers,
    Julien.

  6. Since no one here has sent an updated list of his 4mm stock, I am posting his listings from about 19 years ago.

The last time I spoke with him, he said he now only takes stock if they are requested upon, so I'm not too sure if he will do a fully updated list of his models now.

    Cheers,

    Julien.

  8. New to the thread here!

I tried calling the number listed on the catalogue that was posted on this thread, and it directed me to a lady who had no association with Mr. Arthur Kimber. I double checked and made sure I did not dial the wrong number by mistake. I believe he might have changed it. Does anyone know his current phone address, unless it really is +44 (0) 1253 725143?

    Cheers,

    Julien.

  9. Me again! Just had a phone call with him again with a few updates on what he currently has in his inventory.

He confirmed that he still produces the N.E.R. autocoaches (elliptical and clerestory). I also enquired about the N.E.R. Stores Van, and he did mention that he had some spares and possibly still the toolings to do it, it's just that no one has requested that in a while.

He also has in stock the Wisbech and Upwell coaches pack, consisting of a 4-wheeler and an 8-wheeler.

Hope this is of use to any of you seeking for said items!

    Cheers, Julien.

  10. I phoned him yesterday morning, and we had a lovely chat together.

I enquired him about his 4mm N.E.R. kits, and he still produces them. However, he does not really keep track of his inventory, so he will have to get back to me at a later point with a list. I did ask if he could check what was remaining in his entire stock, but he asked me to narrow it down to what I really wanted.

I ended up just listing every N.E.R. clerestory coach to not make him go through the effort of having to search his ENTIRE inventory. He did tell me that he is no longer doing the 'luggage compo' due to the tooling wearing out, which is indeed a shame. I'll update this thread when he sends me the list of that in the near future.

I did ask about his contingency plan on his range, and he mentioned that several people have reached out to him to purchase it in the past. However, none of them were able to bargain for a good price, saying that he thought his range was valued much higher than what was offered. I do hope that he'll reach an agreement of some sort in the future. It would be a terrible loss for his range to disappear forever.

Overall, I'm just glad that he's still making kits for everyone to enjoy!

    Cheers, Julien.

  11. Thank you very much for the information!

I primarily wanted to build the clerestory coaches, autocoaches, and vans. Nothing too specific since I'm pretty flexible with what I model or anything that's available at the moment, it just had to be North Eastern. If there's an updated catalogue of his 4mm products, that would be much appreciated!

I did want to model the Stores van, however I am told that Dan has not done that in a very long time.

Does he still take phone calls? He has one listed on his catalogue.

    Cheers, Julien.

  12. New to the thread here!

I know a lot of Dan's 4mm kits have been passed off to 51L and London Road Models, but does anyone know the status of his 4mm N.E.R. kits? I am not sure if he is still holding onto those toolings or has given it to someone else yet.

    Cheers, Julien.

Looks fantastic! What other kits are going to be added to your range in the future?

    Cheers.

Servos have given us remote controlled pantographs and DC controlled radiator fans, which were undreamt of until a few years ago, except, perhaps, to the manufacturers working on developing them. Perhaps someone is thinking about it now. It would be quite something to see a steam loco sitting, sizzling quietly, and then suddenly notice the gear winding into full forward. Sell us that and we’ll be demanding a rotating wheel in the cab with a jointed driver figure attached to it. 😁

That would genuinely push new models to a higher standard, and it could very well be possible with the right engineering. I love this idea, and I'm already dreaming about the day it will be a reality 🤤

Lush.....but how many key board experts going to pick faults?....ungrateful b......

The "key board experts" are here to check if the models have any inaccuracies before finalisation at the factory. There's no need for such rudeness if all we're doing is just adding our input to ensure a model is as accurate as possible for maximum. We're all *grateful* that Accurascale is open enough to take our criticism and improve their models if required. Perhaps it's you who is ungrateful of how willing Accurascale has been to listen to their customers for feedback.

Oh boy, it's been a while.  Have been beavering away on many fronts and so hopefully the start of some more regular updates over the next couple of months.

Firstly  the revised etch came back from PPD for the 42' Radial Underframe.  Incorporated a few modifications based on the test builds but the main change is to the suspension arrangements - went with the post 1886 design this time as felt it was more appropriate for the LRM carriages I was building.

Picture above still needs axle boxes and the horn-plate type arrangement above the radial truck.

Wheel clearances look good.  There's a representation of the radial truck and the clasp brake on the fixed wheels but in reality it's basically just an inside framed bogie carriage with similar clearances and turning circle.

Still got the vacuum brake and gas cylinders to fit.  Having a bit of a crisis re: the latter, couple of drawings I have seem to have 13" diameter versions (this is what I catered for on the etch) but the later bogie underframes had a larger ones so more reading required methinks before I fit them.

In the midst of a bit of a lining frenzy - not sure that batch building 5 off 42' carriages was exactly the best thing for my eyesight and back...  Here's one plonked on top but still some way to go re: tidying up the rough edges....

Currently writing up some instructions, as mentioned before have been in conversation with John Redrup re: potentially offering this as an option as part of the LRM range.

In other news need to get cracking on the MR 54' clerestory composite, now have the body and underframe is on a separate etch.

    Will keep me busy 🙂

Just found this thread last night and was totally absorbed with the kit making processes demonstrated here along with the informative discussions. I genuinely would love to buy a kit of the LNWR coach you're making right now! I recently bought an LRM D326 and was planning on extending my rake of LNWR coaches. I really hope it'll be manufactured by LRM in the future. I'm sure it'll sell pretty well ;D. Good luck with your projects!
