  1. Both 30062 and 30073 that had extended bunkers differed. 30062 having a vertical lower part to the bunker and 30073 tapered. HTH.
  2. Depends when you are talking about. I believe they were "alike as two P's" when at Ashford. Wainwright is now different with round front spectacle plate and modified cab roof and bunker.
  3. You should be more careful about comments like that! Trix Twins success is one of the reasons for us having OO. ;-)
  4. Sorry for misunderstanding. Ah yes, model paint appears very yellow and how I remember Blackmoor being in my 'yoof' Personally I preferred that but historical authenticity rules, especially as Blackmoor has largely upheld the Southern standard. Have a look at this repaint to see just how yellow the model Malachite looks! http://repaints.hopkinson.net/view_item.asp?ID=109 Regarding 30069's steps that is correct for the earlier BR period. The platform shown in the real picture is a later addition. As for detail differences. Looking at DS233 and 235, both have flat back bunkers and not the slight flare that 30064 has. 30062 also has the flat back bunker prior to its 'IOW' style extension whilst 30073 had the flare!
  5. This was what I was comparing. https://www.flickr.com/photos/94130968@N07/21461039085/ http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/pics/usa.html OK I'll take back my claim it was a totally different colour but say instead they are a different shade. Look at Blackmoor Vale, probably the most authentic to an original Bullied and its still a different shade to 30064. I take your point about the wrong sample in the 1970 list. Blackmoor looked distinctively brighter in 1976 than it did in 2000. http://www.bulleidsociety.org/21C123/21C123_Preservation.html
  6. This was discussed earlier in the other USA thread. The green used on the Eastleigh twins and DS locos is NOT Bullied Malachite Green as used on SR locos but it was described as Malachite and appears to be BR coaching stock green, therefore darker, of which Eastleigh and Ashford must have had in plentiful supply at the time of repainting. USA 30072 and YUSA 30075 have both appeared in Bullied Malachite Green in heritage era so maybe that's where you are getting the bright green image from. The revised green is pretty well spot on. Remember too under different lighting conditions the shade can appear completely different. I have images of 30064 on the Bluebell taken in bright sunlight that make the green look distinctly olive. HTH.
  7. Received my MR-104 BR Green 30064 today. Lovely model, sprung buffers or not. The wait has been worth it. Thanks Model Rail and thanks to Kernow for speedy dispatch.
  8. The list of USA S100 locos is in Oakwood Press Locomotion Papers Number 170 The USA 756th RSB. US Numbers 1250-1499 1927-1999 4300-4399 6000-6090 There is a list of survivors here as at 2004. http://www.project62.supanet.com/locolocation.htm
  9. Have a look at this page. 30073 was the other recipient of the enlarged bunker. http://www.semgonline.com/steam/usa_02.html Mark
  10. Thats nice, but strangely I still find the pre-production one better, even with its incorrect yellow lettering. Regarding 30062/DS234, this loco had the extended 'IOW style' bunker, so using one of the BR black versions would need more than a re-number to be accurate. ...and the Yugoslav copies have plate frames instead of bar frames and the most notable difference, cranked steam pipes. It is suggested that the boiler is pitched higher too but I'm not so sure on that. Having looked again at pictures yes, the boiler is pitched higher.
  11. Well I'd say the green on the sample of 64 looks pretty good to me for average lighting conditions and fits in with memories of the loco on the Bluebell. It was certainly a darker green than Blackmoor Vale. I've also dug out some old photos of 65 when first running on the KESR and the livery, although 'house style' looks suspiciously like the old BR livery with the insignia removed and a cast nameplate added. The green appearing very much like that on 64. Whatever, they look superb models. Well Done.
  12. Regarding the BR green ones, I would direct anyone to look at KRB's excellent book, The Story of the Southern USA Tanks. There are some nice colour shots of DS235 and 6 as well as colour shots of 30064 and 73. You will be amazed how different the colour looks in varying light conditions. Given that 64,73, DS237 and DS238 were all repainted at Eastleigh, I'd be inclined to say they would all be the same green. The colour is described as Malachite but is clearly not Bullied Malachite that has been carried by 72 and the YUSA 75 in recent years. As has been pointed out the green is nearer Coaching Stock Green. Could it be the colour used on the DEMU's?
