  1. IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Black 5 Kit Components Now Available

Please visit the Association website for details of the relaunch of the Bob Jones designed Black 5 Kit. All of the constituent parts of the kit are now available as individual items. You decide what you will need for your build and place the order with Shop 3. This will hopefully spread the load on Steve having to do big batches of kit in one go. I have a list of interested parties from the previous Sales Officer, but I'm not sure how up to date this is! I hope to email people on this list soon, but don't waited to be invited; if you want a kit order it now.

    Thanks for looking.

  2. Are we talking about 2-305 here? These are still shown as available. It is 2-304 that is not in stock.

    Chris

Apart from the numbers you are correct Chris!

3-205 Coupling Rods: Farish Locomotives: Etched N/S, a bargain at £2.50.

Not sure what will happen with 3-204 although we still have the stainless steel variant 3-203.

  3. The Farish Castle conversion etches have arrived with me in time for the AGM this weekend.

    attachicon.gifIMG_1403post.JPG

So if you have thought about moving on from a Pannier conversion, this could be for you.

The etch includes rods, replacement slide bars, crossheads, front bogie and front frame extensions. Due to the design of the tender, it is assumed that the builder will employ the original Farish wheelsets turned down to Association standards, or modify Association wheelsets with wagon axles.

I will see you with a completed example up at Bournmoor if you are there.

    regards

    Nigel

These will appear on the shop listings, hopefully tonight!

3-219 Conversion Coupling Rods/Bogie etc: Farish Castle: Etched N/S £7.50

You will see, when the instruction go up, that the usual conversion bearings, muffs, wheels etc will be required to complement this etch. The moulded gear muff 3-222 is currently out of stock, but I have gear elves whittling away as we speak, so hopefully all the parts will be available soon. Watch this space!

  4. Please all be looking at the 2mm website. A number of Masterclass Models wagon chassis are now While Stocks Last. These were in the limited edition range and will not be re-run. If you need some for your gloat box or, heaven forfend us, to actually build, well now is the time to get them. Some are nearly sold out and indeed I've already de-listed a couple of items.

    Don't leave it too late!

  5. To update my earlier answer to this, the coach decals are listed in the latest 2mm magazine and newsletter, which was packed last night to be posted today. I'm not sure when David will get around to updating the shop listing on the website, but the codes are;

4-801 GWR coach decals @ £3-00 (covers up to 6 coaches)

4-802 LMS coach decals @ £3-00 (covers up to 6 coaches)

4-803 LNER coach decals @ £3-00 (covers up to 6 coaches)

Also finally available are the 3d printed Universal Joints - code 3-264 @ £1-50 for one sprue containing a pair of UJs.

    Andy

Apologies for the delay, folks. These decals are now listed on the website and available for order.

The UJ's should appear tonight along with a raft of loco (principally GWR, ugh!) chassis and NPCS (SR and BR) chassis as designed and produced by Masterclass Models. That ought to keep Mr Dunkeyson out of mischief for a while. Order away!

  6. Despite the plethora of RTR wagons out there, it's good to see members scratchbuilding and kitbuilding wagons.

Following a long absence, the LMS Box Van (Twin Pack) kit is available again. I'm just awaiting a new price from the Sales Officer:

    20iyotf.jpg

This will build up into one vertical planked and one horizontal planked body with a choice of three different ends.

Additionally, following a much shorter absence, 8 spoke wheels on 15.2mm axles are back in stock:

    2s0jl95.jpg

Finally, please note that 2-460, the 5' wagon spring casting is now totally sold out and will not be replaced. If your chassis etch doesn't have axleboxes and springs in the etch, a number of standalone etches of the same are available. Thanks!

  7. Chris

The wheels are 11.0mm across faces which as you say will leave them pretty tight to Association kits; 0.625mm each side.

The back to backs are c 7.5mm which seems to be pretty standard for N gauge.

  8. Back in stock N Gauge (!?) wheels to suit Association chassis kits:

    2iw500m.jpg

    6mm 3HD available from Shop 2.

    152nlao.jpg

7mm disc wheels available from Shops 2 and 3 (Shop 3 has the majority of stock being mainly coaching).

Both of these are now £2.20 per axle, the cost reflecting the small runs involved.

The N Gauge conversion axles are still out of stock and we are awaiting a committee decision as to whether to continue stocking these.

Our intrepid manufacturers (thanks Al!) advise me that PCB sleepers and sleeper strip are also back in stock in Shop 1. What'yer waiting for? ;)

  9. Back in stock, this handy little jig to bend the channel on the steel underframe kits:

    mj2s0y.jpg

Unfortunately I am still out of 2-047 - 12.25mm axles for RP25 wheelsets. Those of you who have ordered by Paypal and not received will still be on back-order and I'll email you as soon as I have some to send you. Thanks!

  10. Hi Tony

What measurement does it set between the rail top and the underside of the buffing plate please?

    Edward S

    Hi Edward

The gauge is designed to sit the coupling on a mount 5.5mm above rail height giving a distance between rail height and bottom of buffing plate of 4.5mm. According to my measurement anyway! :D

  11. Nigel (Webm

    - Nigel (Webmaster, so I know how things work).

    I'm glad somebody does! :D

Yes, the height gauge is available now, although it might take a while to appear on the web-page.

Put a comment in your email for PayPal orders or handwrite it on cheque/card orders by snailmail.

  12. Hi Yorkshire Square

Any Idea when 2-047 Axles to convert Farish RP25 wheels to Association Standard pinpoints on 12.25mm axles will be back in stock ?

    Andy

Just a gentle reminder to everyone to email me direct with queries. I don't monitor this page, so I might not get your question for some time. General questions can be addressed to other members in the "Any Questions Answered" thread. Cheers!

  13. It's been rather quiet in here. Mainly because I'm out of very little. However!

New in shop 2, the opportunity to get your DG couplings bang on:

    ei6r1x.jpg

    2mxodo9.jpg

A veritable bargain at £4.00. Just don't eat chocolate whilst using it, you may get confused! :D

  14. Interesting idea Mark. I've got a small amount of BAL micromax "smoke" colour grout left over from when we had the downstairs loo refurbished. Were you thinking of applying it dry "like ballast" and wetting it to fix, or using glue to fix, or applying wet as a slurry "like grout" ?

    Justin

    I'd recommend something like:

    http://www.polycell.co.uk/product/polycell-plaster-repair-polyfilla-ready-mixed/

I used this for the scenery on Brafferton including all of the road/yard surfaces. Unlike most plasters or groups it is relatively soft when set and can be easily carved and cleaned up. Adding a fine abrasive or dusting it when laid would give a good representation of fine ballast. It takes colouring very well be it paint, stains or powders.

  15. Whatever the layout, urban or rural, 2mm scale benefits from a lighter pallette of colours than larger scales. So soot blackening could be done with a medium to darkish grey shade and still have some emphasis.

I'm sure some of the exhibitors at York this weekend are on hallucinogenic drugs. Electric blue backscenes, tangerine rockfaces and emerald foliage all searing my retinas. And then that Jerry Clifford guy with his hookah in the corner... ;)

  16. Back in stock are the full range of Buffer Heads:

    335cxp1.jpg

    k3kk7d.jpg

    smbtj7.jpg

Useful for kits with integral buffer beams and buffer bodies.

    Also back in stock:

    502ng0.jpg

particularly suitable for rewheeling any of the Mathieson wagons.

Finally a staple wheel now available again:

    Enjoy! :D

  17. A wee hiatus for my business year end and a stock count for the Association shop 2 year end.

Also it was a bit one step forward two steps back with the F3. Having soldered the front splashers on, I filed the sandboxes down to height to meet the plate at the front of the smokebox. It was immediately apparent that the splashers were too large and didn't look right in comparison. Rather than try to shape them in situ, I reluctantly removed them . I then decided that I ought to get the chassis in place so I could see what clearances were needed for the splashers before hacking them around. Fortunately I got the splashers off without disturbing the blocks of brass just forward of the wheels. Unfortunately I damaged the splashers beyond repair, so I'll need to fabricate some more.

Anyway on with the chassis. In the absence of any 9mm wheels in shop 3, I stripped out my J94 which had oversize wheels (and for which I have a set of more suitable 8mm wheels). The frames were attacked with my biggest file (a 6" beastie) and then fettled with more finesse and smaller abrasives. The frames were soldered up and the wheels fitted. The axles on the wheels do show a little bit of wear (they are around twenty years old), but I think they should be alright:

I had to nibble a bit of the cab floor away so that the rearmost drivers cleared it. I think I will end up cutting it all out and adding a bit of black plasticard to the chassis:
